  • In this video I remove and replace the front control arm bushings in my 2003 Z4 E85. While the recommended method is using a Puller tool, I used a Dremel tool to cut through the old bushing. It worked pretty well. There are other models of BMW from the same era that use the same style control arm bushings (E46 3 series) I hope the video is helpful and that you will LIKE and SUBSCRIBE.

What made you check the bushings to begin with? I.e. whats the symptom that you are remeding?

You can also see at the beginning of the video how much play there was in the control arm. But I could feel there was something wrong when driving the car, especially when coming to a stop.

Thank you. I have two questions. Which tool would I use to remove and install if I don’t want to muscle it off and on? Is an alignment required after this repair? Thank you.

Hi Ron, I have a link to a puller set in the description. I think this is the preferred tool to use. Though, in my case I didn’t use a puller, instead I cut through the metal with a Dremel. I don’t think you will need an alignment, but note how the car handles before and after if it is not tracking straight.
      Good Luck !

You WILL have to muscle it ON though ;)

I tried this evening but I wasn’t able to put on the bushing. I’ll try with some lubrication

A lot of dish soap and pull towards you. I had to prop myself against part of the car and pull with all my force.
