I am just thankful that I found this wonderful early piece by Madetoja. It contains all the lyrical power of his later symphonies ... Opus Nr. 4, imagine ... what a fantastic composition ...
We lived in Helsinki some five years. At beginning strange people, very difficult to approach, silent, speechless country, than finally I´ve got the point- Madetoja was a relief. Finnish composers in the "rest" of the world are quiet unknown : Merikanto, Uumo Klami, Rautavaara, Erkki Melartin and many others, although they wrote great music. I wonder to Sibelius I`ve never got close to. Perhaps too pathetic?
