After the mysterious opening bars reminiscent of the lead-in to the big tune in Beethoven's 7th, this is a fresh, calming and carefree symphony to just sit back and enjoy, quite a change after Madetoja's somber 2nd Symphony. The third movement here is quite exceptional, original but again recalling Beethoven in some of its' rhythms. The coquettish final movement is a delight.
Have JUST started listening to this wonderful work for the first time. Oh! That music of the far North! So far, bird song and frosted breath, though excitement mounts .......
This, like the second symphony, is quite beautiful. Thanks much for an introduction to Leevi Metatoja. Now if I can I distinguish him from Erkki Melartin who also wrote some gorgeous little known symphonies.
I truly recommend listening through this symphony to anyone inclined towards classical music. Evokes the grace of the French impressionists, especially Ravel, but with a Sibelian stateliness. A very pretty work throughout.

Beautiful and reminds me a bit of Eduard Tubin's Idyllic Symphony. #4.
A man with a big heart and many emotions!

Perhaps some Nielsen-like features there, too?
que agradable las sinfonias de este compositor. me trasmiten paz. es necesario volverlas a escuchar, tanto la 2 como esta.
The first movement is actually Andantino - Allegretto.
Upea sinfonia!!!
Adarvi said it. Go on. its good!

I am searching for new, engaging symphonies. This one is good. It sounds influenced by Nielsen - and others - but it original.
0:00 is a good place to start. ^
