I don't know much about Trey Anastasio personally, I've never met him, but his presence seems to have such a sense of grace and generosity about it. I'm very grateful for what that brings to my life.
That's awesome, I always thought going back to 92 when I started getting in to Phish, that the reason for the pause was to get the crowd to complete silence. It never seemed to work out
This was one of the most beautiful renditions of Divided Sky I have ever heard. The next day, I was driving up scenic 23A in the Catskills, with the fall foilage all aglow heading to meet some amazing Phish women to donan afternoon hike, giving the show a relisten. Divided sky came on at the moment I was about to hit the most beautiful part of my drive, and followed with Sigma Oasis when I arrived to my destination, singing "you're already there." I will always cherish the moment of that DS replaying just before I met up with Phamily I haven't seen in over a year and one phamily member who I finally met in person. The hardest part was not all being able to hug each other. But we held tight fist bumps!
A guy in my buddies band went to UVM with the boys. Apparently Trey's roomie for a bit in the same music program. He's got one of the earliest Languedoc's outside the band. Been able to see him play that up very close a bunch. I also saw some tiny early bar gigs. So got to see Trey's 1st Languedoc fairly close a few times.
Nice that Trey gives back with this Divided Sky Fund. Im not surprised at his kindness. My first Phish show was mid 90's. I saw many. I also got addicted to opioid which im not proud of. Trey was a victim too and I will contribute to support this fund against this dreadful disease. My fav. tune
I heard Divided Sky for the first time when i was 13 yrs old. I was staying with my older brothers at their beach house for a week. Their “couch guy” roommate got me super stoned and played this song for me and it changed my life forever. I had just started playing guitar at the time and it completely shaped the direction of my playing style to this day. Later in life, i struggled with alcohol addiction but by with the help of my loving and compassionate friends, i was able to get thru it. The fact that Trey started a fund called The Divided Sky Fund for compassionate addiction assistance hits home to me on multiple levels.
Once took a high school road trip from San Francisco to Santa Barbara. Me and two friends stayed with a brother. Couch Guy woke us up with bong gurgling, and inevitably got us All super Wake and baked. Grateful story. Can relate 🍄🌍🍄🐟🐟🐟🍄
Was a little worried for this one without the fellas. This is my favorite Phish tune and this is one of the best versions. The piano player crushed it.
I love all of the other musicians that are being brought in, its a rich tapestry, ty for sharing your beautiful music with the world, we need it badly rn
Divided Sky is one of the very first Phish songs I was introduced to, many years ago, and it has always been a favorite. I especially enjoy the idiosyncratic, off-tempo passage, a couple of minutes in, as it reminds me of something Frank Zappa might have written. I could not have imagined this song being performed as a guitar-piano duet, and as such it does lack some of the big changes in dynamics that make the ensemble version so brilliant. But all in all, they pulled it off magnificently. Bravo, gentlemen! Thank you! P.S. I've not seen a more beautiful guitar in all my life, and Trey's playing certainly does it justice.
The song/arrangement is excellent, a tasty twist on hearing it live at a Phish show … damn, that’s good. Next time you’re in the Pittsburgh w/the band, please have Jeff Tanski come out and perform this with ya, I’d love to see/hear this arrangement of Divided Sky live in the ‘burgh.
@@gmcsrbosavl6964 Dukes compositions were deftly complex while still swinging...he was able to bring sophisticated harmony into popular music for the time, Treys writing in the rock genre has these same complexities and sophistication IMO...others like Zappa and King Crimson have written in rock with these characteristics but for me Treys writing voice is unique and totally singular; and no matter how complex and angular his pieces can get they never lose that sense of melody.

I'm curious to know who might have written the sheet music for the pianist - possibly Page? And I'm also curious to know if this is a completely different piano accompaniment from the accompaniment that Page typically plays.
for the record, i believe the piano orchestrations were done by jeff tanski (pianist) himself, and yes it is a completely different accompaniment for the most part
Must have been hard for Trey to hold back at the slower tempo, I see him at times wanting to jump up and down. But this my favorite phish song for so many reasons. The story of how it was written is pretty awesome too.
I have been going to Phish shows since 1993... Love the various eras, but only one "modern" drawback for me is the overly delicate vibrato Trey now imposes on everything.. Wish he would just go back to singing with the abandon of all the years before. Nobody came to love Phish because of the beautiful voices, it was everything else!! :) Again, not hating, just expressing a wish as a long time fan..
This is the second video I've watched from this run. This one, like the previous, is completely devoid of all feeling, all tension. It sounds like a couple of studio musicians playing what was written on the paper...are they all this boring?
i found a bad Beacon Jam. . .this is pretty in parts of course and in some little moments the GOTF version is superior but this song demands live energy live people a full orchestra or both . . .this is ANXIETY sky
this is not a great version of the Divided Sky. . .it is stiff and way too slow . . these members clearly do not play this song live for 30 years like 3 other guys do
Nah, this just isn't phish and it's not going to tick all boxes that they do. Not may favorite, almost clicked away when I saw it was just piano and guitar but watched it through just to see if the rest of the band joined. Check out the "You Enjoy Myself" from this venue, it gets pretty rocking.
it wasn't even DIVIDED . . .The members didnt stare at an imaginary audience as if time froze come on that is what makes the sky Divided LOL Not Trey nervously smiling

Absolutely beautiful. So clear and precise. I loved seeing Trey smile before "the note." What a masterpiece this song is...

Awesome detail in this version, and the pianist holds up probably more than a pianist’s fair share very well. Super fun
