Hmm, 98 people like this and there are two dissenters down below. Recently saw Maestro Nezet-Seguin conduct his Philadelphia Orchestra in Ann Arbor. A stunning performance of the Brahms 1st. Read online reviews of his performances and one will get a sense that this guy hits way, way more homers than he experiences strikeouts. Not sure what the dissenters are hearing that I'm not . . .
You actually do look at the conductor when you play. They move their hands to the tempo and in a pattern to tell the players the time signature. They also cue certain players and decide when certain things cut off (there are notes that have symbols meaning you hold it until the conductor cuts you off) and stuff. Generally they also work with their players to make the music sound it’s very best, because they are trained in musical theory and such.
Temo che gli impietosi giudizi sul direttore d’orchestra dipendano più che altro dai suoi orribili pantaloni. Ma la musica non si deve vedere. Si deve sentire!
Maestro Nézet-Séguin and the (always superb) Philadelphia Orchestra have produced a number of great recordings in the last few years. But Nezet-Seguin's Beethoven is facile, shallow, at times clearly undecided in terms of interpetative direction and almost always insubstantial. The recent Beethoven box of Nezet-Seguin conducting the Chamber Orchestra of Europe (on DG) is a huge disappointment in a very crowded and very competitive field that includes many important interpretations that are also extremely well-played. In a nutshell, he has nothing interesting to say on most Beethoven symphonies, including the fifth. Not all conductors have something interesting to say on all composers. My opinion.
Shallow, showy, self-centered, SMALL. Small man, small music-making. The sad part is that, with the "woke" conductor hiring that's happening now, people like Dudamel or Nézet-Séguin will look good in ten years. Sad Brave New World.
You're quite right. I can't stand conductors like Dudamel and Nézet-Séguin because they're woke, like you said. I particularly can't stand Nézet-Seguin, because he dresses irresponsibly I think. Did you see the trousers he was wearing? That really isn't appropriate for a classical concert. Who does he think he is? A rock star? I'm still glad we've got some conductors who are not "woke," like Herbert Blomstedt, Riccardo Muti, Daniel Barenboim and even Christian Thielemann to name a few. Conductors who are "woke," like Dudamel and Nézet-Séguin, I can't stand them. That's my opinion
The old times were better when there were greats like Karajan and Kleiber . Shame on those who wear weird outfits to these concerts. It’s a disgrace to both the music and the musicians.
Beethoven super power most welcomed input always, have fun guys, keep calm & love Medici TV world wide
Sublime ❤
At times it seems that only Beethoven, Brahms, Mahler and Bruckner wrote symphonies.
🎉

Why do they have composers of the orchestra ? Especially since they all just play off sheet music and don’t even look at him!?

Но почему в штанах Униформы ,совсем уже лучшие уж совсем без штанов

Abysmal, listen to Nikisch’s one.
Unde e minte este si prostie multă!
Acest dirijor se afișează ca un Superman!

Ему смело можно давать первое место в топ самых убогих дирижеров.

Ca't stand him. He seems to think it is all about him, not the music.
