      That is true, however everybody has a second or first language which is either English or Afrikaans or any of the 12 official languages and as such, the debate can continue if there are temporary problems regarding translators or a translation service which may happen from time to time. This is a clear attempt by the EFF ank mk to disrupt the session and should not be allowed particularly as the chair had already dealt with the issue. Everybody that is employed or has a post in government service has to know two or more of the 12 official languages. If they don't then they are not fit for the post.

    • @marysinclair3759

      It isn't an "African" language but it is a "South African" language that has developed over centuries and spoken by the vast majority of people of all races and tribes in South Africa and spiced with vernacular unique to South Africa. South African English is spoken either as a first or second language and ANYBODY employed by the government must know and speak two languages in order to be hired. That is the rules. I have to wonder whether those with "degrees" in the EFF bought them or did they get someone to write their exams because they DID study in English. Aside from that, a bigger attempt should be made to translate and indeed improve the official languages into teachable book and lecture format. My assumption (and if someone can tell me if this is so or not) is that the "African" languages need to include words that encompass engineering, science and technology in general. You will note that Afrikaans as a language didn't occur overnight but was enriched by words from various languages and grew accordingly to facilitate teaching and lectures at schools and universities.

    • @93cbear
      @93cbear 2 месяца назад

      True they did. I don't think it shows confusion, their need to just be disruptive actually brings a bigger issue here lol even though they aren't seeing it. Majority of black South Africans understand both Afrikaans and English but majority of white SAns don't understand or speak at least 1 indigenous language.
      Them cheering showed what a number of black SAns face in many settings to accommodate the majority of white SAns, which is the need to now speak English or afrikaans even though they feel they can better express themselves in their language, instead of white SAns to willingly learn at least 2 indigenous languages, black SAns need to sacrifice that freedom of expressing themselves in their language.
      So for her to not intervene as a chair person is something to question because what if there are some black, coloured, indian and white(who dont speak afrikaans) south Africans in the house who couldn't understand the eff member who spoke afrikaans 🤔 why wasn't there concern of an interpreter then. Its these little things that may course the culture of South Africa being a rainbow nation to fall. And we don't want that cz we need each other to fix this country, a war amongst ourselves wont help, be itva racial or a tribalist divide. Not saying that the chair person is racist or whatever, but her need to intervene seemed to be based on a subjective stance because SHE doesn't understand, and thats wrong, it should be because there is a possibility of a constitution violation because there maybe be people in the house who don't understand whether is Afrikaans or Zulu. But for them to be disruptive like this is just wrong too shem yhu cz there should be dignity kept in that house.

      @@93cbear It's not different with majority of Zulu speakers in KZN!If you speak another south african language in their meetings they will tell you that they don't understand you!Why?A language can sometimes be used against others!Germany's Hitler used it against other nations!If we spoke one language things would be better!Imagine sometimes in SA one cannot differentiate between a black and coloured!But in USA;UK and other countries we don't hear people calling them coloureds because they speak one language in those countries!In SA that twelve or so official languages complicates the matter!

      30 years ago, when the ANC won the elections, isiZulu should have been made compulsory in schools instead of Afrikaans. Afrikaans should have been offered as an optional second language.
      This would not have helped the current Deputy Speaker of course, as she probably finished school well before 1994.

      This is a serious matter. Languages play an important role in culture. Whites in South Africa would never understand our cultures if they aren’t going to learn our languages. Our kids in some schools are always forbidden to use their home languages. There should be a law that ensures third language learning in schools.
