    About this video:
    Non sleep deep rest (NSDR)
In this video Jamie talks about a form of Non Sleep Deep Rest (NSDR).
This is called Yoga Nidra (Yogic Sleep) in Sanskrit, the ancient language of yoga.
Yoga Nidra involves finding a restful position, lying down or any other comfortable position that feels right for you. You can also do this from sitting on a chair.
Nidra involves listening to an audio. You can listen with earphones/ headphones if you have them, not essential though.
Nidra progressively trains the body into a deeply restful state similar to deep sleep.
You can come out feeling rested
Yoga Nidra may help with fatigue.

    Hi Jamie and Geoff here,
We both have AS, and we are both certified yoga teachers.
Through working with hundreds of people living with AS with their family and friends and with the support of many health and social care professionals. We have developed Yoga modified for AS.
You are likely at this point seeking ways to relieve your AS pain stiffness and fatigue.
Yoga for AS has working for us, it has worked for hundreds of others with as the AS specialists and organisations support our work.
So please be reassured we have worked very hard on safety, on the absence of injury. There is a wide range of presentations of AS so there is not yoga that is one size fits all and we have devised yoga for modified for several different presentations of AS for symptoms such as fatigue and for the specific areas of inflammation that may occur.
Starting any any new wellness programme can be daunting and you may have already tried with little no no results. It takes courage and support to take this next step, but we hope that our welcoming community and services can make you feel at home and ready to take the first step.
So, there are benefits, it is safe and we hope you enjoy it.
So pleased do come along on the journey: Yoga for AS.
Our vision is to show people with AS that they can practice yoga safely and effectively.
It is clear that stretching, breathing, strengthening, relaxation techniques and mindfulness have the power to change the lives of people with AS.
We want to show the world that with the right guidance and expertise yoga can work for you!

Also wondering how often / how many times per week we should use nidras? Only when fatigued, or regularly? I tend to use only when fatigued, in place of a little power nap to reset my nervous system, but perhaps if I did it before getting fatigued it would be better?! Thoughts welcome :-)
    Thanks for your great efforts

Using it in place of a Power Nap is a great! Using it regularly has a benefit as it will become easier to drop into that deeply relaxed state more readily. But whatever you can fit into your schedule!

I've been yoga nidras for around 8 years to help with chronic back pain... (Now turns out it's likely to be AxSp!). Do you find they sometimes leave you feeling sleepier afterwards? Any tips on this? Do I need to do shorter ones?

Thanks for sharing! Yes, sometimes… although usually that passes and around 1 hour after feel much more energy. Trying a shorter one, like a 20 minute one may be useful. It also depends on the time of day and the other factors around when your practicing. If you wanted to talk this through in more detail, do feel free to reach out! Our email is admin@yogaforas.com

@@yogaforas Thank you :) That's helpful. How many times / week is good to do nidras? Only when fatigued or regularly? I've signed up to your mailing list :)

@@johooper404 I personally practice daily and many of my students do also. But it is down to what feels best for you. Some “deliberate decompression” once a day is super helpful.
