We need more of Jeff Benjamin. Missed the OG.
Thanks, much more is on the way from me!
Yes! Exactly!
I have this dock. Got it a couple weeks ago. It’s worked perfectly. Highly recommend it
Yep, it's a solid performer from my testing these last few weeks.
I too can confirm that this Dock works flawlessly, only thing i can’t get working is the Mic-Input right from the RCA’s, i simply cant get a signal on the Mac , but using the same mic with a usb D/A adapter works. so mnaybe there is a special type of microfon needed for this port to work.
I wish more docks had dual HDMI ports.
Missed having Jeff Benjamin over here. Nice dock, considering getting one of those!
The big differentiator with this is the NVME socket. Very nice and useful feature.
That thing is killer!! I just picked up a TS3+ on eBay for $100, so I’ll be looking for this Sonnet on there in a few years lol
I think this is the dock I'm looking for!!
Dude, you definitely went all the way with that Audient Audio Interface. I salue you.
GREAT REVIEW, earned a subscribe🎉 and I don’t do that easily!❤
Love that the Host ThunderBolt connection is on the back. Never made sense to me to have it on the front.
If I had this "SuperDock" most of the time nothing would be plugged into the front. They would be used for device to temporarily connect to transfer data.
Love the M.2 SSD on the bottom. That would be where I would install it as my "Time Machine" storage device.
Feel the price is spot on for what you are getting.
That's how I've been using my OWC TB3 dock for the past ~3 years since purchasing it. Only time I have anything plugged into the front ports is when charging my keyboard/mouse or something temporarily.
Love that you produce your videos in HDR.
Sounds like something awesome to have
Dock looks solid for the price point! Not sure how much the NVME port was needed or demanded though - would have been a knock out of the park if they had removed that and instead put in 10GbE over the 2.5.
Same with the audio LINE OUTs. That was almost just putting it there because they could but isn't the best use case you'd see coming across a dock. Most speakers go into their own amp/sub which then has a single line out cable.
All that said - remove the audio and the NVME (maybe replace with additional HDMI or DVI port) - make it 10Gb and it's hands down for $299 a top pro dock.
I'd buy that
The RCA audio line connectors are there in case your Great Great Grandfather comes back from the afterlife and wants to connect his VHS recorder.
The Audio is this video is notably too soft compared to other properly equalized videos. Watch any video before or after this and you'd find yourself adjusting your volume
That dock looks good. Wish it had been out when I bought my Caldigit T4 station a few months ago. Might have got this one instead.
Great review Benjamin! For $299, it's a pretty darn nice dock. Love that all the USB ports are USB 3.2 Gen 2. I like that the TB charging port is on the back. I don't get it when it's on the front. Ruins the aesthetic. Wish it had 10Gb/s ethernet. But I get the heat issues with that. The speed for the internal NVMe is a bit disappointing. But still fast enough for most but the most demanding uses.
For $299, it should be a great seller.
i think this is the quietest 9to5 mac video ever
This is the video quality I anticipate from 9to5mac, not the one you get from a guy filming in his bedroom with mediocre quality, which gives off a new, hustler RUclipsr vibe. I almost forgot how good your videos were. sorry...
This is very cool.
this is most reasonable and well thought out port design to date. hence I have ordered one now. rest of the pack is weird with quirks and weird things about them. Caldigit is great but does not have all the day to day ports that this has, already have caldigit one mounted under the table.
I have been using a CalDigit TS4 for a while and have really liked it. This seems to compare favorably with the TS4 and with the internal NVME slot might surpass it. I wish however they would make one in the same form factor as the Mini, like Satechi has done, but with the added features and I/O of the TS4 or this Sonnet dock.
I also have a TS4 and it seems super finicky, especially when trying to use longer TB4 cables. What I mean by "finicky" is, sometimes one or more of the things on the doc stop working: USB Audio or Front USB Ports or the onboard 2.5 GB Ethernet.
I end up having to power cycle the unit and reboot my PC.
Love thisssss
can you use one of the thunderbolt ports on the back to plug into additional displays?
Thakns for the review. It works on Windows devices to
God I wish I could afford the $200 price tag.
But MAN does it have a lot!
I could see that NVME coming in handy where we like to keep source code in the office… but not sure if I trust people to not think it’s “just a dock” and to borrow mine lol
How many watts is the power adapter? We need to know if the hub can power multiple devices at full power simultaneously
This or the Caldigit TS4?
Comparison video?
Hello ,Any update of this dock. I’m planning on getting it. But I’m debating between owc go dock and this dock. The m2 option in great but I have very nice experience with owc. Owc is very reliable I don’t know about sonnet.
hello. Do you know the quality or bandwith of RCA output? Which chip is used for the DAC for RCA output?
I need a dock for my new MacBook Pro M3 MAX 16". Do you know if this will power that ok and its attached devices?
I love this dock and I wish it would work for me. I’m iPad only (iPad pro 12.9 + studio display), so when I connect a dock to my iPad, it just recognizes the dock and not the hardware that I have plugged into it. Or, at least that’s how my caldigit reacted. Can anyone confirm that this dock works for the iPad as well as it works for a Mac?
hello i have question. if i use ssd in this dock and its connected to macbook / notebook what happen if i disconnect macbook from dock ? it works like if i pull off usb from macbook and it throw warning for not properly disconected usb or ? thx
Specs look great, except for the 2.5 GBE port. Wish it was 10 GBE as in the OWC Thunderbolt 3 Pro Dock that I own. Downside with the OWC dock is it doesn't have as many USB ports.
What 4tb SSD can you recommend for this dock?
Can this dock allow an m1 air to connect to two thunderbolt 5k monitors ?
Is this Displaylink? So you can do multiple monitors even with MacBook Air?
I have a question, will everything work with iPad Pro M2?
Does it support Dual display on the Apple M chips?
How many monitors can you connect for macbook?
This dock is actually more expensive than the TS4 in Australia. Sonnet need to have a word with their Australian distributers. $768 vs $639 🤔
Wait..so I could load windows in the dock w/ NVMe and boot from steamdeck into windows and use it as a "docked windows device"
Why, oh why the glacial M.2? :(
And why no display outs?
How can I connect two LG monitors to this dock?
It’s a zero compromise device
It’s a great dock for sure, but I’d love to have a dock with dual video output and a few USB-A, Ethernet and and not much else for half the price or so. I can’t find one perfect for my needs.
If you only need dual display and some usb, just look for usb c (non thunderbolt) docks. There’s a few out there that would work, Satechi make one that would fit your needs.
I was hoping to look for something with a 10-gig network port any recommendations?
OWC thunderbolt pro dock!
I would like a stripped down USB only version.
No digital audio out?
They could have ran more than 1 lane to the nvme. I wouldn’t consider it for much more than a Time Machine back up. I still don’t understand why docks/enclosures don’t support two independent thunderbolt host ports. I’ve raid 0’ed two tb ssd enclosures and the machine can handle that bandwidth just fine. I was getting mid 5000’S read/write. Given how many ports this dock has, I don’t think 2/2 or 2/3 of the TB ports taken up will be an issue.
How does it compare to the CalDigit TS4?
CalDigit might have to reduce their price.
Why would you only put one hdmi port on that thing tho
Sad no DisplayPort connections
No DisplayPort is the dealbreaker for me. Especially the fact there is only one hdmi port. Why can't someone make a Pro doc that supports multiple DisplayPort connectors, and the other ports like 2.5/10G ethernet. The OWC TB3 Pro dock is close, but again, only a single monitor connection. Does no one use dual displays that make these docks? TB displays are a fortune, HDMI is limited, whereas DisplayPort is full-featured and supports far better color controls, compared to HDMI.
So you can basically use the SuperDock as a mini PC?
This would be much better with 4 HDMI ports.
All I want is a dock that will connect to both of my external monitors every time without having to do the plug and unplug dance for 20 mins when I plug in the main USB-C cable.
Sonnet are the masters of charging a fortune for Thunderbolt devices and scrimping on NVMe bandwidth for no logical reason. There’s no excuse for how slow the NVMe is in this or any other Thunderbolt 3 or 4 device they charge a premium for. It would be perfect for my future usage of moving to Apple Silicon from an Intel Mac Pro if it had the performance of Thunderbolt 3 or 4 enclosures with full 2750MB/s speeds for a 3rd of the price without the extra ports. There’s no way they couldn’t share the bandwidth to manage that either.
Too bad it's not in the same footprint as the Mac mini. Nice to stack it.
please work on your audio profiles....very low and have to crank up youtube volume to hear
wow at almost £400 I can get another computer !
Shout out to the guy handling the sonnettech
disappointed by the lack of more hdmi ports
I wish they made this with a 10gb ethernet
multi gigibit youtube videos? I think you mean gigabyte
no 10g network is already a compromise to an otherwise godtier product :(
2.5gb is crap should have 10gbe
No more docks and dongles bring back io!
I'm interested but why are we keeping USB-A around still? Please let it die! I have to carry both!!
Too bad it only has one HDMI Port. Would be way better with two Displayports
“Mac or iPad Pro”
Did you even plug it into an iPad Pro? No mention of support, features, what works, what only works if you also have a Mac too, etc.
Yep, I talk about that on the written post, publishing that soon.
OK, I'm dumb, but does this have full (or any) functionality on a PC?
I'll take my abuse offline.
Idk man 300 bucks is alot for ports idc how.many, and I use 20 ports on my pc lol and im.saying this
Just a shame it costs 400€ plus in Europe!!
I don't understand why most of these docks don't offer the 2.5Gbps PLUS a 10Gbps SFP+ port, for either fiber or RJ45.Give me one less 10Gbps USB port and give me an SFP+ port, please!! And that limited NVMe slot makes this dock super odd and not really a win for anyone at this price… :\ A 2.5Gbps USB adapter costs $25, and the rest you can get from any kind of TB dock. This is a weeeeird product!
For anything needing more than one PCIe gen3 lane (e.g. 10GB NICs, most NVMes) TB4 can't allocate it - this is the limitation of the protocol itself, as only one lane is available to the dock and everything else is supplied to the downstream ports. Use a TB3 dock with a 10GB NIC or a 10GB NIC endpoint directly if you want that to work properl or wait for TB5.
This is also the reason why NVME is so limited in this dock: not enough lanes to go around.
In a year this $300 item will be replaced by a faster Ethernet port.
only support one monitor LOL
Not true. You can connect up to two 6K displays if your Mac supports that.
No display port?
I suppose HDMI + Thunderbolt works fine, but it’d be great if you test that and put it on the video next time. Thanks!
Eh this ain’t it because it does not 10 gigabit Ethernet… all of these manufacturers keep missing this
I stopped listening when you said $299.😂😂❤❤
