Great choice! "Powderfinger" next, live w/ Crazy Horse. Neil Young is so rich and varied a performer, you can keep finding something different.

The problem with today's world of shows like "Americn Idol" and "The Voice" is that they will never produce an artist like Neil Young or Bob Dylan.

Don’t feel bad. Critics used to pan him all the time. You’re exactly right. His voice
is unique, one of a kind. Wait until you hear him play lead guitar! A good example
would be Cortez The Killer. Beautiful song.

Neil caught my attention when he was with Buffalo Springfield, and have been listening to ever since that time. I wore out the Harvest and After the Gold Rush album. My favorite song on this album is Cortez the Killer, because it is a mixture of his story telling and pure rocking out.

You hit the nail on the head. One thing about Neil, when you hear his voice, you immediately know it is him. His voice is unique and one of a kind. I used to play this album all the time back in the day. And hearing this again brings back memories.

The way I like to describe Neil is that he is a master of the concept of 'enough'. He knows what a song needs and he gives it exactly that - no more. You don't get overloaded with overdubs and effects. You get exactly what the song needs.

He's been real, always, warts and all.

Love how you are showing love to the great Neil Young, Chod! Look for some of his performances at Farm Aid 1985. "Helpless" from that concert is a good place to start! Neil Young is a great spirit, and we've been lucky to have him to enjoy for so many decades. And now we are lucky to have a great spirit like you to enjoy too! I saw him live back around 1994 at a concert where he was touring with Pearl Jam and he was amazing! Thanks, Chod!

Neil Young is the father of grunge. He very much supported the likes of Pearl Jam and Nirvana. His acoustic side is just one facet of his musical talent. Look into his hard side.

This was a ground-breaking album for Neil, actually.
..and it reestablished him as a relevant artist for the '80s and '90s (and beyond).
...Of course, since, for me, it was the first album I ever, really heard by him (I had heard songs on the radio and knew some of his history with Buffalo Springfield, etc.) ..and it was this "transitional," important album for him.
Basically, this album is: half "folk-y," "song-writer-y" "classic '60s-era" Neil Young and the other half is: a punk-influenced, hard rock, noise-rock album.
...and iT WORKS, just, PERFECTLY! ...but WHAT a brave step to take!!!!
NO WAY could he tell whether this was gong to work out or not! ...
Naturally, the radio songs from this became "staple" Neil Young songs to a lot of people and, certainly spent time in his set lists, consistently, over the years and decades following.
-The "big deals" on this album are, really the "intro" and "outro" bits/songs (which are "2 sides of the same coin, "essentially" - Which, I believe is how he wanted to paint ...and have fans/people VIEW, HIS "2 sides" (or the ones he was representing, here, at least!: The "astute, storytelling "folkie"...." and "The balls-out rocker, with no fear of any possible sound, whatsoever!" 🤘🤘🔥🔥🔥🔥)!
    "My, My; Hey, Hey"
    and
    "Hey, Hey; My, My"
(...As a kid, when you hear Neil's voice illustrating for you (as you, so-well, describe, herein, #Chod! 👍👍👍👍):
    "Hey, Hey - My, My.
Rock 'n' Roll can NEVER die!
    There's MORE to the picture
    than meets the eye!
    Hey, Hey - My, My!"
...you are (one is), equally: entranced!!! and, also: you BELIEVE his words and take them as GOSPEL!!!! 🧡🧡🤘🤘
    Can't you imagine?? 🤘🤘🔥
-...Definitely: let: "My, My - Hey, Hey (Out Of The Blue)"
"Hey, Hey - My, My (Into The Black)"
    and
    "Welfare Mothers"
..."chime into" ...you/your experience (whatever you're doing)!
You will like them ...and they will begin to open up more of Neil to you. Yes. DEFinitely. 👍👍🤘🤘 🔥🔥🔥🔥🌟

Ahhh. I remember one of the most incredible nights back in the early 90's .Neil Young and Crazy Horse, early fall evening outdoor venue concert just my wife, a blanket on the ground and a bottle of wine. Everyone on their best behavior. It was a beautiful thing, the way it was and gave you a greater hope for humanity which Neil has always sang for. I can still feel the breeze. LOVE YOU BROTHERS AND SISTERS PEACE HIPPIE JOE

Neil loved his autobiographical epics. He's talking about the choice between becoming a fossil or staying hungry and relevant. He's also being brutally honest about real people he has left behind.
I love that you get him. I'd like to see you do some of his more rocking stuff too.

Since so far you've done 3 acoustic songs from Neil and one rocker, to even things up a bit, it would be good to do a rocker next. There are 2 fine ones from the same album as "Thrasher": "Hey Hey My My" and "Powderfinger". Two other fine ones are "Cowgirl in the Sand" and "Like a Hurricane".
