That is my advice too. Years ago, I stopped my neighbor from beating his wife in his front yard. He normally beat her in the house, but decided to do it in his front yard that day. Right beside the drive we shared. As soon as I approached and told him to quit, she gets up off the ground and gets in my face, telling me to mind my own business! I told them it was my business if they did it in front of my kids. I told them I didn't care what they did, just do it out of sight from my kids. Next day, I pull in the drive and he runs off his porch, toward my truck, hollering he was going to kil me. I pulled a 45 auto I always carried. He got to my truck door- seen my pistol in my hand and decided to be my buddy. Said he was sorry, he was having a bad day. I told him it about got a lot worse. The police were waiting for me in my drive the next afternoon. His wife, that I saved from a beating, had called for me pulling my gun the day before. They heard my story and said I was legal in pulling my gun on him. He was a known wife beater and always in trouble. But it isn't over yet! Next morning, I hear bikes pulling up. I look out. This idiot has called 3 friends in. He and them are standing by my truck. I grabbed my 45 and walked out to go to work. He starts cussing me and ask if I got my gun. I said "Yeah, sure do!" and patted my back. His buddies backed off real fast, hollering they didn't want any trouble. He quickly changed his tone when they retreated. So I left for work. No more trouble after that, luckily. He calmed down. Never even beat her in the yard lol. But that is what happens when you step into a domestic. I would highly recommend no one do it.

This guy's first response was the proper and only response. NEVER EVER get involved in 3rd party issues. Instead, exit the transitional space, call 911, and be a good witness. Getting out of the danger zone is your #1 priority and this guy did that in the first scenario. I love your channel but I think you guys are really doling out bad information in these scenarios. For starters, the doctrine of "Self-Defense" is clearly in question when inserting yourself in other people's business. I understand the concepts of self-defense and defense of others are closely related, but in the second scenario the armed defender is clearly opening himself up to legal issues by getting involved at all.

I personally am not getting involved in any domestic or any situation like an active shooter. My gun is for my defense. No one is going to step up and pay my potential legal fees or even do my time if the legal system goes full stupid and finds me at fault. In this situation I’m minding y own business and probably going inside the restaurant. I’m taking no part in anything. I have a lot of training with weapons and tactics- hold many certifications and have experience, but the way the legal system works at times the bad guy becomes the victim and your the bad guy. Not worth risking my life, my financial well being, or my freedom

I was nearly attacked and am going through being charged with 3 felonies. Just like you said, the bad guy is the victim and I'm the bad guy with a gun. The legal system is not working for the good guys. It only helps the bad guy. In my case he's a multi convicted felon and was on drugs looking for a fight. All I was doing was walking in a store to buy a Coke. Wrong place at the wrong time. Cops don't want anyone carrying a gun but them.

Also, don't white knight and ask a woman, "Ma'am are you ok?" Psychology 101, you are confirming that they are making a scene and that can cause an escalation. Men who try to white knight another man's girlfriend or wife when they are arguing, from a primitive perspective, are essentially moving on another man's territory. I say this loosely as I realize women are not property.
Just don't say anything. She or he are grown people and do not need strangers to comfort them further making them feel embarrassed.

If things don't escalate that fast, then you get the option to think about being the Big Damn Hero. (BDH is not a good thing, don't make the mistake to seeking to be one. Better to be the reluctant hero than the guy who goes into the fire looking for glory.)

In the second similar situation, it would seem that a LEO would have stopped the threat by firing at least once the moment the man took his gun out of his waste. By the time the man presents his gun from his waist and points it, it would seem that it's too late to have decided whether to shoot him or not. I think this would also apply to civilians, not just police.

The only thing I would do different, in his first situation, was:
1: Once the gun comes out, DROP THE PHONE! (clear your hands!) Have both hands on your firearm.
2: While on phone, give address of place FIRST. Description of male SECOND, situation as it happens THIRD. This gets police rolling to address, and gives detail of who they're looking for FIRST, before everything else goes pear shaped.
3: Once boyfriend is down, (and verified no longer a threat), HOLSTER YOUR WEAPON! Don't want the police to show up, and you're standing there with a gun, and two people down...
Other than those niggling details, I think his initial response was perfectly adequate/acceptable.

      (*Watches second half of cid*)
Nooo!! NOOOO!!! Why would he move to a 'position of advantage'? He's not law enforcement, and he's not security!
Getting to concealment/cover is PARAMOUNT! If the guy isn't initially coming for HIM, he's well advised to clear out! Yelling at the guy, while not behind cover/concealment, means he's going to NOW be the focus of that unwanted attention!
Next, he shoots the guy, THEN LETS THE NOW GRIEVING WOMAN DROP BEHIND HIM?!?! Noooo!!! GAWD NO!!
She too, must be considered part of the threat! Keep her in view too!!
The ONLY time I'd recommend getting directly involved, is should he have turned his attention to OTHER innocents.
I love your videos, but my humble opinion is, this one is giving bad advice.

Problems for me- 1st scenario: No way am I staying in that chair! It impedes my mobility. As soon as I see his gun; I'm pulling mine and getting it on target. 2nd scenario: As assailant is already pointing his weapon I am not going to tell him to "stop" or "put it down"; I'm going to shoot him. Earlier I would have taken his verbal threat "I'll show you how crazy I can be" more seriously and start distancing myself from his chick. I'd want to get more sideways from her but not much room on the porch so I would have probably backed up. So true about a guy's girlfriend you try to protect turning on you! I've seen it happen minus guns. I go to DC every year for a few months and most of the time I see one incident of a man choking a woman. I've seen guys pull out big kitchen blades and threaten to kill. I've been theatened every time as well. The last time twice and one of them was White (a first for me since high school)! He had dreads which is a red flag for me. Either they're really laid back or agro. Being able to discriminate is key for me. Their color, sex, clothes they wear, body language and how they talk. I have several Black friends there but none act gangster. I've been held up at gun point (Miami) and I lucked out as the man was older, experienced and not whacked out on drugs. Anyway I'm not a professional but I have a little experience. These practice scenarios seem so important and I hope to try some with my friends. Great video!

Lots of people are talking about not getting involved in domestic situations. Realize that in public areas if the agressor has a weapon he is a danger to the victim, those around the victim, those behind the victim and potentially more people after that. Your right to carry is to preserve life not just your own. Now i say this in a public setting , dont go in peoples houses to settle others disputes. If you're worried about legalities and costs then get training on situational decision making to better your case and get concealed carry insurance.

Calling 911 was a mistake. How can calling 911 help at that moment? 1. The police will not get there in time to help the situation. 2. You being involved in the shooting are at risk when the police do arrive. In today's environment cops are unstable, you never know what kind of cop will arrive on the scene. You will generally deal with two types of cops, a crazed authoritarian cop or a stable well balanced cop. It's a crap shoot, literally. Tell the intended victim to vacate and then remove yourself from the situation. If you are left with no choice but to defend yourself then you do what is necessary to defend your life.

Every man and woman own the right to defend themselves with whatever weapon or weapons they choose. I don’t think people should be getting involved in other people’s bs. Even if you shot that guy and saved her, she is gonna cry to the police and say you killed her bf and then you got 25 to life thinking “I shoulda walked away”

yes I understand what you're saying after the fact but you have to get yourself into a safe situation so you don't get shot but I do see your only mistake was not to pull your weapon faster as I dial 911 and seeing the guy come out of the car with a gun to his head I would have had my gun out already tell the guy to drop his because I have a gun that could have invented the whole situation of him shooting why you screaming I will shoot drop the gun

I am thankful for a program like yours. It is very thoughtfully put together. Unlike many gun channels that promote bravado without practical scenario’s and thoughtful critique. You guys provide a great service. When I was in law enforcement, the most mentally stressful calls were domestic disputes. You very correctly stated that you need to be mindful that the person you are trying to defend could become your next threat. Keep up the Great work.

Yea I dont know if I would of intervened, but I certainly wouldn't want someone to get killed if I could of done something without putting myself in extreme danger. The fact that I was there he could of also tried to shoot me and everyone else. Great video those situations are very prevalent

My guess is all these people coming out of hibernation and quarantine there is going to be some pent-up energy that'll be going in the wrong direction especially if somebody doesn't wear a mask or coughs or sneezes after sitting around a month or two in quarantine they'll be some people going off
And all those people that just bought all them weapons that didn't own one before

  • @lordkin-kong8888

The very first scenario in this video..
Drawing your weapon would have did nothing but accelerate to a firefight...
The distraught individual in the altercation had no interest in life preservation...
On top of being extremely emotional....
That is a "lose lose" for the very first scenario...
My main idea everyday while I carry my weapon is to do my best to prevent loss of life...
Now I know that sounds a bit naive..
Which is probably a huge negative on my part...

As a gun I DO NOT involve myself in someone's personal problems. It's to protect myself and others. But when someone is having problems, I do not involve myself unless it gets violent. (Hands on) Alway assess the situation before you before assuming and involving yourself

  • @dovahbear0
    @dovahbear0 5 лет назад

These comments... not that I don't understand, it's just the fact most people would keep out of problem situations just bc it doesn't directly affect you or family is just crazy to me. I get being a good samaritan has risk of injury and legal issues, but refusing to get involved means you should expect nobody to help your friends and family either. What if it was your sister or daughter who is with a guy off his rocker and he started beating the shit out of them? Or pulled a gun on her? You want someone to just sit there and watch? What if your brother or son was on a date and a crazy ex jumps him or pulled a gun? Just say fuck it and hope they can get out of it alive at best?
Just like the cop that turns his/her back on another cop doing wrong. Or the neighbor refuses to cooperate with police during a crime, you are guilty of turning your back to something going on and are just as responsible for it.
I'm not saying go balls to the wall shoot every bad encounter you come to. But just simply ignoring it bc it doesn't involve you?

Terrible advice. You can be prepared and aware without helping escalate. Walking away seeing another man talking to your woman offering help over a heated verbal exchange is enough to escalate. Unless you hear threats of physical violence, pay attention until the potential threat has left. This test is flawed because the intent is to use the gun in their course so the perception is you will act. Also this is broad daylight with no crowd. Best to observe if possible. If you can’t do that the priority becomes to move your family or friends away inside past a choke point. Tell one of them to place the call to 911 if you feel or see the “threats” had specific intent behind them. Then if you so choose slowly re engage and prepare to confront. Or stand back and protect those who are beyond the choke
Point or barrier. You can’t save everyone. This kind of hero training will get more people killed.

A little saddening to see so many folks saying how they wouldnt get involved. Indeed the woman shouldve kept her mouth shut after he had initially left and sat down or left. But however i say this imagine your kids there like below age 11 and theyre running around playing. And this same or similar scenario plays out. Guess what. Be a diff story. And im damn sure gonna drop the idiot that pulls agun out threateningly near kids especially my own. Initial run through was good. However im not gonna stand by and allow things like that to happen so easily. Like jfk said" dont ask what your country can do for you ask what you can do for your country" and last i seen she was an american and i protect all my fellow americans that need help to the best of my ability.

Once someone with a firearm points it in your direction... especially under this scenario of escalation, you certainly do not have to order them to "drop the gun!!"...... At that moment you own them!! You just need to be prepared to articulate your response....

  • @the_matad0r342

I only see one issue with the outcome of the second scenario. When he pulled the first two shots, the guy dropped. He got back up and was ordered to drop the gun. While the man didn’t drop it, he hadn’t even started to bring it back up. I think the third shot was a bit premature. Yes, it happens fast. I still think that he would have had plenty of time to notice before the gun became a problem again.

Well in a court of law he's good, now if he shot the guy he would have to prove that his life was in danger, prosecutors would say why didn't you walk away or run away, law is really weird you can use self defense but you almost have to be a attorney, if you're life isn't in immediate danger or death than they say run or get away if not they throw you in jail, I've seen it happen

Shooting from that open porch is a death sentence in disguise, but real force on force both sides firing is the way to train for reality. I disagree with any mouth running if your in the open and an enemy presents a gun you better be firing or moving behind something, then spewing words. Anything besides these two is straight up foolishness.

That was a very difficult one, he had no right to shot the man because no threat then he shot her so fast not time to react. Very good instructions and training on how to address the situation. But whats really hard is this all depends on the DA and their political ambitions as to where it goes from there and the fact that if you are not a police officer with no right to act upon situation being brought to the top of decision.
