i definitely plan on making a video for season 1 and 2 but unfortunately those will take a while to come out as i have some other plans but ill try to get them done as soon as possible because it seems like people would like to see them. and also i hope you're enjoying the game so far its one of my favorite games of all time so its great to see new people hop in and get involved in the community!

I got this game right before Johnny came out, so this was my first season. This was a really good and fun season to play the game in and I like all 4 of the characters a lot. However Slayer is just something else for me. He’s by _far_ my favourite character in the game and was my second most wanted character behind Venom from the moment I played him in +R, and lived up to that completely. Sure he’s not fair sometimes and definitely cheats a lot of wins, but my enjoyment with this game went up noticeably since he came out and I couldn’t be happier. I feel slightly bad when I completely rob wins but I’m having too much fun to care, I love him way too much.
hey you always gotta remember that guilty gear is an evil game and every character does really evil things. even if a lotta people might dislike slayer they're also doing just as evil stuff right back to you so i hope it never gets you down cuz it shouldnt o7 also im glad you're enjoying the game and i hope venom lives up to your expectations when he drops next year!
I want to preface this by saying I am a floor 10 Ky main, before I share my opinions. I do reach the Celestial Challenge often but usually lose it because, well... Aba, Slayer, and Johnny. These three characters (Also Sol and Anji but this is about DLC) are the squad that usually keeps me out and I am not having fun fighting any of them due to the fact they benefit extremely from the current design of Strive - the volatility. - I have once been locked up in the corner against Johnny for 3 "resets" straight, while blocking that mix and him ending up with plus frames every time. It was not a pleasant experience in the slightest, while I also think people downplay his best tools a lot online. I do not dodge Johnny players on the tower, but still do not find them fun to play against. - Slayer, you have very likely mentioned all the issues I have with him in your video, but I would also like to add the cross up mix ups that he does that almost always catch me off guard and give him reward. That and his cS for some reason is also an incredible anti air... ouch. - ABA is the most volatile - and that makes her, in my opinion, a badly designed and unfun character to fight against. There is exactly no in between - either you steamroll her or she steamrolls you with ease and monstrous buttons, plus a variety of cross ups, frame traps and large range of her normals. There is no "fair dueling" here. Only pain. Additionally, the fact her forceful exit still allows her to block and gives her throw invincibility makes it quite easy for her to recover, unless she is in the corner. I find Elphelts Rekka frustrating, but she is not that common or powerful to really gatekeep. Amazing Video and great editing all around! I just wish you had more than two videos on your channel lol
these are definitely not just floor 10 opinions because i've 100% heard each and every point you mentioned from fellow top players and i share a lot of them myself so dont worry at all. season 3 was filled to the brim with characters like that who just robbed you at any opportunity and it definitely made the game pretty unfun for a while especially if you werent playing one of those characters but i think this patch has changed that around a lot. also about aba i definitely agree she is so unbelievably annoying to fight but i do admit that there is counterplay there even if i may not find it the most fun plus shes very unique so she gets a pass from me but i dont blame you for hating her at all. i wish you the best in the celestial challenge tho im sure you can do it soon and im glad you enjoyed the video! i have another one coming soon (5 days to a week from now) and even more on the way after that so thanks a bunch for the kind words it means the world to me.
The thing that pisses me off the most about ABA is that her Jealousy reversal can just be spammed in front of a shielding opponent for free chip, and if they try to do anything (including using a panic super), ABA powers through and gets a full combo for no meter. Fuck ABA.
I find it funny how these characters have such a different placement for me as a pot main. Slayer is very fun to fight, since a blocked pilebunker or K mappa hunch can easily be thrown, leading to pots strike throw oki situation, which is obviously nice. Slayer is very threatening with his pressure, especially the double crossup p dandy step, but there are clearer windows where you can punish and once you do he doesn’t quite have means to escape. Also catching roundstart pilebunker with a delayed kara pot buster is a hilarious callout. ABA is also perfectly fine to fight. In normal mode you have the means to outspace her with fS, 5H and 6H and in jealous rage you can try to lame her out with back megafist and slidehead. The main issues I have fighting here are her two insanely fast supers, because getting slapped fullscreen for doing anything and not even being able to RC block is wack, and the fact that jealous rage deactivation is literally a free roman cancel that has in fact cost me a counterhit several times (seriously, why does fumbling the gauge allow her to stop time) Elphelt’s also fine. I don’t think pot fights here any differently to the rest of the cast. Now Johnny can go die in a fire. He might actually be one of the worst matchups either for me or pot (Asuka at least has the decency to explode when he runs out of mana). His long ass moves means that against pots chunky hitbox he is basically always in range to slap him, punishing vault with 6P just leads to being slapped with a card and he is plus off of _everything_ and never has to get within throwing range. Johnny leaves zero windows to punish him in reaction to one of his moves, which makes him so hard to deal with. Anything pot throws out, Johnny can punish and anything Johnny throws out pot is to slow to do anything against. Johnny is literally the only character I genuinely dread fighting
this comment is super interesting to me and something i didnt even consider while i was making this but you really helped me rethink how i make videos from now on. it didnt even cross my mind that a big body player would probably have the exact opposite feelings on these characters so thanks for the new perspective genuinely! i will say tho abas jealous rage forced uninstall while it does stop time it isnt quite like nagos where it gives her an advantage it actually technically guard crushes her and gives her 10 frames of recovery so if you can abuse that it can be really beneficial as you can *maybe* sneak a garuda there as pot or just a kara potbuster? not 100% sure but i hope its helpful to you either way when you fight her o7
As for elphelt i think her character design is a bit flawed aestetically And the rekka being a “scrubkiller” move is imo a flaw in the gameplay design I also think she is a bit too different compared to previous incarnations although thats not out of the ordinary for strive Overall im not the biggest fan but its mostly her splash art that i dislike Her super has an amazing animation however
having played slayer as my main since he's been out (sorry world) I think his counterplay is starting to be more known, like grabbing dandy step or 5P and 6P against Master's Hammer. Also that you can 6P Mappa Hunch. He's strong, but he really has to gamble and win, or he's gonna take a beating
Dizzy’s gonna be low HP, probably no guts or very low guts, venom is probably gonna be pretty average HP and guts, and I really can’t see unika and lucy being very high HP, would be funny if this season they went the opposite direction of season 3, “low HP, low damage, but by god if you get a hit you get yourself a setup for TOD 40 hit combo mix”
yeah! i recorded that section before the season 4 reveal but i was VERY happy to see dizzy and venom cuz low health setplay characters are 100% my thing.
14:50 I may not be good with her, but I promise you she is a character that is only good in the hands of certain people. She has the potential to be #1.
As an Aba player I feel like I never consistently 2 touch. It’s more like 3 because you have to include the normal mode hit generally to get in then in jealousy you have your 2 other hits. But that’s essentially every character in the game at that point. Her neutral skips are really good rps though. Sucks though when you use the dash and they 2S or they far slash when you try to hop. If she gets in she can be deadly, but if you are Bridget, Axl, Asuka, Happy Chaos, Faust, or Testament and can keep her out it’s a struggle bus. Last year’s evo champ Leffen also thinks she’s good, but a bad tournament character solo which is why she doesn’t have much representation. I could do better to open people up as Normal Mode I guess personally as well, but that’s not a her thing I think

Bridget, Happy chaos, and maybe asuka are the only ones there i'd agree with you on. Axl's moves are all pretty telegraphed, and its really easy to just bait a long cooldown attack and command dash forward a bit. Asuka is a little weird since you do have 5H in normal mode. If hes sitting in range of that with cubes (which they tend to do while fishing for a hit to combo off of), you get a punish and ez install. Faust does have some pretty huge normals, but a lot of his best moves are lows, which goes right into an install. Testament is unique in that her attacks linger, but all her best zoning tools are *insanely* easy to get parries off of before manual installing and either IAD in after she does a low or if she predicts that you just command dash in (which goes insanely far in JR mode).

Once full screen her dash block does not give her any distance. Then you have to run up and then hop over his sickle, but if you mistime it you get hit and have to do it all over again. Your timing can also be messed up because the command grab has a different timing. Additionally he can poke out of trying to go into jealousy. It’s not a terrible matchup, but it’s still harder to get in. An opponent varying their timing will give you no grounds to play. You get install if you hit Asuka with 5h, but if you miss the move you have so much recovery he can set up. Additionally, Asuka has better roundstarts to hit you or keep you in block stun. Even if you parry some of his cubes you are in too much block stun to actually fight back, and once again your poor dash block and lack of air options can make it difficult Faust has many higher reaching ways to hit you. The only big lows he has is 2p and 2H. Other than that Faust far slash, 6p, and 5p or j2k can all catch you trying to hop over lows. Then he has 2H to mix things up if you try to command dash in. Also once he gets lots of items out you can’t really get in normal mode as you are overwhelmed with projectiles of varying timing. Testament is the furthest you can get from a “Her” by the way. XD But anyways it’s funny you say to iad jh on Testament who has arguably the best anti air 6p in the entire game. Also even if you parry crow They still get stain which now if you don’t react you are struggling to get in. The command dash feels practically useless at times because of Testament’s low moving projectile and even if you want to go into JR both Arbiter signs go full screen now and Testament can keep you out to burn your timer even if you do get JR.

He was always good.. There were multiple players who were performing on Johnny before the patch.. don't understand how ppl can see a character with multiple, very strong strengths and call him trash just bc he can't dashblock.. well it worked and he got buffed :D @infernochim8111

For johnny I really wish you could cancel his dash into grab like the old game Also j,h being so slow and having no air combos is sad for sure He is still one of the coolest characters in strive tho
Honestly all the season 3 characters are quite annoying in their own ways. Elphelt is just plain obnoxious to fight, I don't think I've ever been more annoyed with a fighting game character in my life. Until I learned that you can interupt her rekka startup with a 5 frame attack, I would get wrecked by nearly every Elphelt player I faced, and even knowing the trick, it still feels like a guessing game most of the time. Sure she's not that good in terms of tier list rankings, but everything about her character just annoys the shit out of me. I feel like ArcSys could have done much better with her character in terms of her gameplay. Can't say I'm a fan of her redesign either. Her character theme goes hard though. Johnny now feels quite strong after the recent buffs he received, I think he's in a good spot as of now. He can be hard to fight but overall you can work around most of his gimmicks. I think overall he's a cool character and a great addtion to roster. As far as Slayer and Aba...make one mistake and say goodbye to your HP bar. I personaly think both of these characters could use some minor nerfs at the least, especially Slayer. I think its safe to say that overall the season 3 characters are strong, while being relatively simple to play. I'm hoping that the season 4 characters will be more difficult to play and be more technical.
"Canned" mix may be scary, but what really is canned mix? If you think about it, opening a can of food has a rather lot of setup when framed in the instantaneous life-and-death perspective of a fighting game; you have to go to the store, buy the can, take out your wallet and pay for it, return home, use a can opener, and only after that can you access the contents. Perhaps that is a great reflection of how playing any fighting game character - even the ones we deride for being easy - at a level above beginner is a feat in and of itself. At the end of the day, we're all bound to strict schedules where we're peacefully eating our okis one minute and forced to churn butter in harsh conditions by the grappler overlords the next, so deciding to opt with metaphorical canned meals of mix is something I cannot blame anyone for. Although, as a complicated setplay player, I must say that this conclusion only makes the value of home-cooked mix even more apparent.
But, mr youtuber! She has to go back to normal mode when she runs out of jealousy gauge!🤓🤓🤓🤓

Honestly all the season 3 characters are quite annoying in their own ways.
Elphelt is just plain obnoxious to fight, I don't think I've ever been more annoyed with a fighting game character in my life. Until I learned that you can interupt her rekka startup with a 5 frame attack, I would get wrecked by nearly every Elphelt player I faced, and even knowing the trick, it still feels like a guessing game most of the time. Sure she's not that good in terms of tier list rankings, but everything about her character just annoys the shit out of me. I feel like ArcSys could have done much better with her character in terms of her gameplay. Can't say I'm a fan of her redesign either. Her character theme goes hard though.
Johnny now feels quite strong after the recent buffs he received, I think he's in a good spot as of now. He can be hard to fight but overall you can work around most of his gimmicks. I think overall he's a cool character and a great addtion to roster.
As far as Slayer and Aba...make one mistake and say goodbye to your HP bar. I personaly think both of these characters could use some minor nerfs at the least, especially Slayer.
I think its safe to say that overall the season 3 characters are strong, while being relatively simple to play. I'm hoping that the season 4 characters will be more difficult to play and be more technical.
"Canned" mix may be scary, but what really is canned mix? If you think about it, opening a can of food has a rather lot of setup when framed in the instantaneous life-and-death perspective of a fighting game; you have to go to the store, buy the can, take out your wallet and pay for it, return home, use a can opener, and only after that can you access the contents. Perhaps that is a great reflection of how playing any fighting game character - even the ones we deride for being easy - at a level above beginner is a feat in and of itself. At the end of the day, we're all bound to strict schedules where we're peacefully eating our okis one minute and forced to churn butter in harsh conditions by the grappler overlords the next, so deciding to opt with metaphorical canned meals of mix is something I cannot blame anyone for. Although, as a complicated setplay player, I must say that this conclusion only makes the value of home-cooked mix even more apparent.
