My brother moved with his 13 year old dog last year after he had lived in that house since he was a puppy. We all thought the stress from such a big change would kill him but he adapted faster than we all expected and he’s loving his new house now☺️ Dogs are more adaptable than we give them credit for.
It all depends on the animal. Currently I have 2 cats. 1 LOVES moving into a new place and exploring it, the other is terrified for weeks after and slinks around like there's a potential monster waiting around every corner, and asks to be held and carried everywhere. Even if we move furniture around the first one gets all jazzed about the new parkour course and the second one gets all spooked and belly crawls everywhere for a few days after.
I think it might be harder on a (blind)guide dog. They have to see for 2 individuals and home is where a guide dog can trust things to be in one place, the blind person can often navigate their home without the dog and the dog can relax a bit.
I moved last year with my elderly blind dog and was also convinced the change would be the end (nope!) - after some oopsies re: blind dog in a new house, he was as good as ever 😊
Awww he was like “no I am home.. I am not leaving.” He will adjust though. Hopefully, it doesn’t take too long. I wish you both all the best in your new home! You deserve nothing but the best Molly. ❤
My dog had a super hard time moving. She didnt understand why half the family was missing for two days (separate cars) and then in the new house she was so skiddish and nervous she thought the new chickens were threats to run from. And she STILL wont go into the finished basement where our living room is.
Poor baby! Moving is such a challenge already, it must be so much scarier to do when you can't understand why. I'm sure he'll be okay once he learns that all the important things, like his family, moved with him.
I moved for the first time with my assistance dog, had her since she was 9 weeks old. I think the biggest thing that helped was the layout is very very similar and all our furniture moved with us. Still took her a little bit of time but she's very happy and comfortable now in our new place
It has to be so strange for a dog to have your home be somewhere and then one day the place is there but everything that makes it a home isn’t. He will be very happy in his new home though. Congratulations ❤
My senior had no trouble moving. It helped a lot that my parents were helping move. So many familiar faces and smells and everyone was so upbeat. My newest rescue would lose her mind.
The first time I moved with my dog I had to go back to the empty apartment and he was so excited. He bounded up the stairs and through the door but when he got inside he stopped dead when he realized our stuff was gone. Then he just followed me like glue. I felt so bad that I couldn't just explain it to him. He seemed so distressed.
Sending love to Elton. Our neighbors moved, my guide dog is so confused where his friends went and who are these strangers in their house. They are very intelligent dogs to understand something changed. Congratulations to you 3!
I was moving from my apartment in May of last year and I was selling some of my furniture. My dog saw some people come and take them away and had a panic attack because he thought I was either going to give him away or I was leaving without him. 😢😭 I had to spend so much time with him to console him! 💔❤
1. The bought a condo in BC. The apartment is in LA. 2. For various reasons. Safety being one of them. This time is because his place is bigger and cheaper.
We moved from a modern suburb to the country. My dogs went from not leaving a five foot perimeter from the camper (at the time) to taking 3 hr walks across the neighbors’ yards in the winter. One neighbor’s yard they don’t go into anymore after getting chased by a guard donkey😂.
That would be particularly difficult for a guide dog. He's so used to leading you there I imagine he's feeling he isn't doing his job right by not bringing you back here!
Molly , why do you still live in an apartment, what not buy a single story home that has no steps Or is an apartment easier for you for reasonS that I , a sighted person. Just will never think of
We had a pair of cats that moved several times with us and adjusted very well...except that one move was a few minutes walk away and Cleo Alexander would visit her old home once in a while (crossing two streets!).
Just applied for a service dog and curious to know how expensive they are to care for, like expenditures in a month? The bureau I am thinking of using, are saying about 144 dollars a month, is that realistic?
Aren't all dogs supposed to be on a leash in public? I've seen numerous posts by service dog users complain about offleash dogs coming up to their service dog. Shouldn't service dogs follow the rules as well? It's a rule to keep all dogs and their owners safe.

@Dan_Sgambelluri Elton is still a dog and should follow all rules. What if one of these other dogs came running up from "nowhere", wasn't seen or heard by the camera person or by Molly, and attacked Elton? This is a poor example of how service dogs should be handled.
i think destressing at a favourite park should be mandatory for everyone after a move
I do it with the vet too

We moved today and our dog had such a hard time with it bless her. She seems happy but very confused. It will take some time I think
Don't worry! As long as they have their pack, they will adjust better than you realise! Moving is always an adjustment for all of us! 💓💗❤️
Good luck to you and Elton in your new home Molly! All the best! ❤️ 🐕 ❤️

Aww, poor Elton is having a hard time! I hope it helps him to see the old place is empty!
He’s just so sad 🥺🥺😭

He's in the hallway he looks to his mama for comfort.
That is such a good idea. Please let us know if it did help him little Mr. Elton John.

He's so cute and fluffy! I just wanna hug him!🥰😍 🐶🤗😇

Elton looks so cute during belly rubs. His paws fold up to his chest. So cute.
Aww isn't that the place your renovated to have custom accessibility? I hope the new place meets your needs!
No. That was in BC where her parents will live.
I learned with my first service dog - when packing, to show her "her" things - so she knew she was coming along.
Aww Elton, do you think the stress of moving may have factored into his explosive diarrhea problem?

Is your dog a rescue?
But your custom kitchen!!!???
That's the condo in Canada I think
2 things.
1) didn’t you buy an apartment?!
2) why do you move so much?

Aw hes so cute! Also what's that collar called?
It’s a slip chain

For many reasons. Safety. Less maintenance. Some apartments have amenities.
We had a pair of cats that moved several times with us and adjusted very well...except that one move was a few minutes walk away and Cleo Alexander would visit her old home once in a while (crossing two streets!).
Not me thinking he's a black golden retriever😭
Think about an animal communication session for life changes🐾💕
You are the best guide dog mama!! I would have never thought that's a thing!!😮❤
Awww, poor Elton! It will be okay, Buddy.
Aww poor doggy it'll be ok 🥺🤍 congrats on the move
I wonder what the smells in the apartment were telling him.
What happened to your condo. I must have missed the video
Her parents will live there.
Aw poor boy, glad he got a de-stress sniff
😢❤
Awww, poor Elton John!😢
Sweet Elton!!!🥰

I have the same question if anyone knows the answer 😊
Good job, Mom ❤
Your moving from the condo u renovated?
No. Her parents will live there.
Good dvds
I couldn't tell if Elton was on a leash at the park. Was he offleash?
Yes he was.
