Watching this now that I’m older, I’m not sure if I can even really call Vincent a villain. The poor guy was rightfully pissed off when all of his food got stolen
Just Imagine if RJ had just left vincent's stuff alone and still met vern, hammy, and the gang. It would've been a lot easier for to still get vern to trust him and round up all that food
Maybe, but Vincent is still very selfish, callous and not to mention murder-happy. “You’re dead, RJ! And your friends are next!” Keep in mind that he literally had no reason to want to hurt others. And prior to that, he outright told RJ that he was “proud” of him for backstabbing his new friends and leaving them to die.
This just proves RJ is an idiot. Why didn’t he just wake him up and nicely ask if he could borrow some of his food? I mean, judging by Vincent’s reaction to being woken up, he clearly knew RJ.
@@BullyMaguire2024 Vincent might not have been reasonable. Also just food for thought, why did RJ open that can of spuddies when he was still in the cave? Why didnt he just take it outside first and then for a whole week, ate everything and just leave. Oh well xd

I agree Vincent isn't really evil. Now people would say that he was proud of RJ to abandon his friends to give him his food, and saying you're dead RJ with his friends being next making him truly evil, but it all comes down to his nature as a bear not really needing to care about the smaller forest critters because actually in real life bears don't care for the smaller animals that they eat. Also RJ did start the whole entire plot of the movie trying to rob Vincent stealing all of his food, and didn't even think to get food out of the garbage near the snack machine instead like real raccoons do. Not sure if this was intentional, but the ending of this movie, where Vincent gets hauled off to the Rockies is actually a clever bit of poetic karma when you think about it. Meaning Vincent will have to deal with his own Vincent.
RJ just couldn’t help himself. He could just taken the few bags that were at the entrance, but was enticed to take the whole horde. @Danny Adam Well he's still a bear so it's not like he's friendly or polite himself either. And considering that's all human food in that cave that means he himself stole that food and it's not rightfully his either.
They need to get Chris Pratt to voice RJ in a live action remake of Over the Hedge. With Alfred Molina as Vincent, Dan Ackroyd as Hammey, Owen Wilson as Verne, and more. Who agrees?
I always felt bad for the bear when the food wagon started rolling down the hill and got hit by a truck. Like imagine collecting a whole supply of food just for it to be stolen.
I find it funny that Vincent slept through the paddle, RJ stepping in the empty pie trays, and the wagon thudding on the ground, but woke up to the sound of the Spuddies can hissing. 😂 It’s just like how my Dad sleeps through me using the angle grinder outside but wakes up to me opening a can of Coca-Cola.
This movie Over The Hedge is a great film to watch about forest animals trying to survive by foraging for their own food. I know Vincent is hated by people thinking he's a truly evil bear, but he's misunderstood as a character in my opinion. RJ was the one who started the whole entire conflict of the movie by trying to steal all of Vincent's food, and I know he was starving, though he's a raccoon, and raccoons usually eat out of garbage cans. So maybe he should've found something to eat out of the garbage, instead of being stupid, and trying to steal all of Vincent's food that he worked to get. Also he did seem proud of RJ to backstab the other forest critters, and got really angry when he decided to go back to them destroying Vincent's food again. Still I look at it from the bear's perspective too. He may seem like an angry homicidal bear to RJ, and the other forest animals, yet he's just going by his nature as a bear to survive, which they normally eat smaller forest critters anyways. Everybody is allowed to think Vincent is evil. It's just my personal theory on the film, and I think he's a great character.
Well, I'm think that Vincent is actually a villain. Vincent, after seeing this wagon full of food, could just share a small piece of it with RJ, but he immediately says he's going to kill him.
@@kacmac2340RJ already intruded in his cave and Stole every bit of food, from the very chip can in his hands! without having the courtesy of asking. I don't think I'd be in a generous mode myself. Certainly shows RJ's lack of concern for Vincents well being but it's also an insult.

Damn.. Growing up is when you realize that Vincent isn't a villain at all. Just an innocent bear that was minding his own business hibernating after working hard to collect all that food, only for him to get robbed and lose it all, making him rightfully angry.
Now that I’m an adult, I don’t blame Vincent for being angry at RJ. I would have been pissed too if someone tries to steal my food. Also the fact my name is RJ, it feels like the characters are talking to me
Vincent needed that food most likely for hibernation, so yeah, when he says he’ll eat the racoon instead he’s actually being reasonable since it’s all the food he has now.
Vincent didn’t wake up to the sound of the pie pans being stepped on or the wagon landing on concrete, but he woke up to the sound of the hiss coming from the Spuddies lid lol.
Over the Hedge is now in Universal’s film library since they bought DreamWorks and Zootopia is Disney’s so that’s an obstacle. Also one guy in this movie died and a few now have health problems.
There’s times where I get annoyed at people painting the bad guy is being more innocent and justified for their actions than what the writers intended. But with Vincent, I can 100% understand why people see him more as the victim

@@kaininjathundermmandopoke5167 the movie made him feel like a menacing villain, but that's because he was robbed by RJ. So RJ here is the real villain.
To be fair he probably got all that food from harassing/scaring campers... So he would be a bully. But I think anyone would be upset if their stuff was stolen and then lost.
That truck inadvertently set up the plot for the whole movie. But when you think about it, a more responsible driver would have stopped rather than drive right into an object randomly placed in the middle of the road.
To be fair, Vincent the Bear had a good reason to be mad at RJ. Even though Vincent’s food is human food, he probably worked hard to get it all, granted, his red wagon and cooler was something he probably stole, but still, RJ should have just taken a little, not a lot. Despite being antagonistic to RJ, he has a reason to be mad at him. The true villain was Gladys Sharp.
Actually, when RJ rescued his friends in the cart, Vincent got angry that RJ didn't bring him the giant picnic packed family fun size of the Spuddies.😂
Oh the way RJ restrainly gets mad at a Chips bag. He's like "Why you little... If you had come down at the very first place, THE VERY FIRST PLACE, I would never have gotten into this trouble."
When Vincent said that he would hunt RJ down and kill him if he ran away I believe him, not only because that is how he is but he is also a bear, an animal that has a much greater sense of smell than a dog. So I fully believe that Vincent can, indeed, find and kill RJ if he ran away. And i think RJ knew that since since he didn't run away (other than the general fear of the bear).
For year I always thought the best chance he's got to get away would be to hitch a ride on a truck or train and travel to 3 or 5 different states away.
This is terrifying. Vincent lowkey gave me panic attacks when I was little. Imagine someone who’s sentient enough to have a conversation with you and openly admits they’re willing to kill you. That’s so much worse to me than an actual wild animal who just kills you because they’re hungry.
I think they use to work together, or maybe is more RJ use to work for Vincent... both are opportunistic, -RJ think that he could have the bear protection (and some food) in exchange of the food he gathered. -Vincent can use RJ to gathered the food for him with less trouble, a racoon is more discreet than a bear. But, as we see in this clip, RJ is scared of Vincent and that bear take advantage of it : he take all the food and left nothing to the racoon.
@@BlueWolfAlpha Okay but it still doesn’t change the fact that Vincent stole all that food from people from camping or at they houses from either killing them or just left scared them off to take their food & drinks that Vincent is still technically the Villain of “Over The Hedge” especially of him obviously not wanting to share none of his food with RJ by being an asshole type of Character that pretty much got what he deserved for trying to kill RJ’s friends who had nothing to do with Vincent’s destroyed food he took it out on for no reason at the end of the movie in all fairness
great show i liked the character development throughout the long journey of moral development and i think the use of maslows hierarchy of needs really is represented well in this film for example rj would never take that food if he didnt feel his safety and shelter was a priority above food and water. throughout the movie you can see as he is given these necessities to living he then realizes love and belonging is just as important for a small critter like him. i really can appreciate a good piece of art when i see it and man did this movie move me. trult will make a man a man
@@Mad-Artist-2006 This indicates that Vincent isn't only evil but also impulsive and not so reflective or willing to evaluate other hypotheses. Besides, he's a bear, right?
Vincent: “the moon not full, you woke me up early” *see bag of his stuff and figure it out* “oh no, don't tell me your dumb enough to actually try and steal my stuff, Rj, I'm going to have to kill you!”
Okay I just really wanna point out something here that I think really needs to be said. Vincent was not the bad guy and RJ was completely wrong in this situation. Vincent is a male black bear who was a week away from being done with his hibernation. Bears after hibernation are extremely hungry because sometimes they don’t hibernate simply because it’s cold, some bears do it because there’s literally not enough food and they just sleep off the bad winters. Clearly Vincent was fine with his rations, even if it’s human food which is EXTREMELY bad for bears and also food conditions them, which makes them extremely dangerous to people because that’s when a bear could possibly see humans as not only a way for food, but also a potential food source. But Vincent would need that much food clearly because of how much of the forest is destroyed in the movie, god only knows how small the territory for Vincent really is, so at this point he’s resorted to taking human food despite what he’s naturally supposed to eat. He’s completely food conditioned and is dependent on this food to keep his stomach full. Now I understand RJ is struggling and starving, but he didn’t need to steal Vincent’s *ENTIRE* food rations, a small it of the bags of chips or cakes would’ve done him just fine. Seeing how Vincent is pretty calm about RJ literally in the process of stealing all his food, I’m sure Vincent wouldn’t have minded giving him some of it. But no, RJ “needed” the entire food supply. And in the whole process, he woke up a sleeping bear a week before his hibernation was over (which can be extremely dangerous and harmful for the bear itself) but was going to leave him starving as soon as he woke up. I just really wanted to say all this because it’s just such a dick move that I didn’t realize until I was much older.
Revisiting this scene as an adult makes me appreciate how the tie-in game for the movie actually gave Vincent a happy ending. He joins RJ and the other animals and even helps defend their home during one of the levels.

@Danny Adam Well he's still a bear so it's not like he's friendly or polite himself either. And considering that's all human food in that cave that means he himself stole that food and it's not rightfully his either.

3:36 Vincent wait I can get all back 😂
When Vincent said that he would hunt RJ down and kill him if he ran away I believe him, not only because that is how he is but he is also a bear, an animal that has a much greater sense of smell than a dog.

Vincent still scares me,even as a adult!😂
How do they even know each other?
thats is what I been wondering to bro
I think they use to work together, or maybe is more RJ use to work for Vincent... both are opportunistic,
-RJ think that he could have the bear protection (and some food) in exchange of the food he gathered.
-Vincent can use RJ to gathered the food for him with less trouble, a racoon is more discreet than a bear.
But, as we see in this clip, RJ is scared of Vincent and that bear take advantage of it : he take all the food and left nothing to the racoon.
@@RogueSamaelZX That does sound plausible enough. The backstory of both characters aren't important to the plot but I was curious about it as a kid.
