Alitalia and the Pope. One detail a few know. On outbound flights, going to a place, always Alitalia. On the way back to Italy , he uses the local airline....

AZ back then served many African destinations and Rome was a large gateway to Africa.

OMG !!!! When our glorious italian flag was in the sky and when Alitalia was a real WORLDWIDE AIRLINE, up to 1996 when was dismantled from our politicians to please Bruxelles, Lufthansa, Air France and KLM, and now ITA in its stupid "propaganda livery" in a idiot "European Union blue"......When on a Alitalia 747 you was able to fly in mostly every country around the world, up to its last time with only ONE A300-200 and ONE 777-200 for intercontinental connections.....very sad to see and live the assassination of a flag in the sky for mere political, overnational and economical interests. But this is "globalism", so....
