I always imagined that when one of your loved ones is passing on, every last moment you have with them is “the perfect moment,” and you’re not ready to let them go, but when it’s time to go… it’s time to go… so make every moment a perfect one. Because you never know.

imho the "perfect moment" here is a reference to how everybody has some kind of way they think they'd want to die, like the typical "old, at home in bed, with family around, going to sleep peacefully" and the whole song telling you how it's not your choice, if it's your time, you go.

The three creatures in long black coats are imho partly Grim Reapers, but more incarnations of Norns from northern/central European mythology - three female creatures which do the knitting with the threads of human lives - who did appear to humans at the time of birth and death.

This song is very special to me. It came out during the final days of my granny, who suffered from severe dementia. I saw with my own eyes, how a person disintegrates and finally dies. I was there during her last moments that I wished looked different than what I had to see. And the worst thing is that my granny and I were very much alike (to the point that her photos from her youth were mistaken for mine) so I felt I was watching my own death. This song is a pure catharsis to me - it brings pain but also peace and consolation.

As being german, i love the reactions of non-germans, watching Rammstein videos. They are "special" and have such a great success world wide for a reason - while sticking to the german language. It´s a phenomenon and especially, because their topics are usually dark and controversal, they only show us a mirror of our society, without judging. There is always space for different interpretations, opinions, points of view and such. The videos are built with so many layers, that it seems to be hard, getting all the deep meanings of them - even as native speaking German.
Zeit is also one of those videos, which can be seen from different angles and includes dozens of symbolic meanings, if religious (ashes to ashes), emotional, psychologic (what to do with our time on earth), or even the different views of a death (after a long pain period, dying senseless or way too early).
As Einstein said: Time is relative! It matters, if you sit 5 minutes on a hot oven or talking to a beautiful girl^^

Great. "too early" is exactly what everyone is refusing to recognize in Rammsteins "Zeit".
Was ebenso niemand sehen kann/möchte: Es braucht 'ne Menge Goethe und Plato, um Tills Art der Wiederbelebung der klassischen Aufklärung zu erkennen...

My interpretation of "The perfect moment" as it relates to the daughter. The verse opens to a scene in a field, it's a beautiful summer day and the family is harvesting the golden field as the sun streams down. The father is mournful but loving and holds his dying daughter as they look onto this idyllic scene, the daughter is at peace.
This is the perfect moment that is referred to, not the dying, but the moment just before.
The lyrics on this section of the video are
/ The moment is so perfect /
/ But time goes on /
    / Wait a minute /
    / I’m not ready /
The perfect moment could be one of joy, like you described with the birth of your children, but sometimes it's just the last moment before something terrible happens.

I first watched this video (and first listened to the song) when it premired last year, and it still gives me chills every time I've watched since. Even the song without the video is breathtaking.
Their album Zeit, in which this is the title track, came out last year and the whole album is incredible. And to think they call it their "unintentional album" because they wrote all the material during Covid.
Rammstein doesn't really announce videos or even albums, they just premire a small teaser clip a couple days before the video or album drops, completely out of the blue and without warning. So it's definitely worth subscribing to them if you haven't.
Their teaser clip for Deutschland (and the drop of their self titled album in 2019) was just the clip of them in the striped uniforms at the gallows, and that obviously made some people really mad and trying to boycott them. Which is something they're used to. But then the full video and album came out a day or two later, and then everyone shut up because they were absolutely dumbfounded by how incredible it was.

Thank you for that info. I will definitely sub their channel. They have a unique way of doing things and that's ok with me and it should be ok with others. In this song the reminiscence to the old, pre-Christian Nordic mythology is unmistakable. The three sinister, faceless figures definitely don't stand for the Grim Reaper but symbolize the Norns, (Old Norse 'Norns' - the Murmurers) are immortal female figures, they are sisters, who sit at the foot of the Yggdrasil world ash tree on the banks of the Urd River and spin the thread of fate for all creatures. Their names are Urd, Verdandi and Skuld... Urd (what was) is the namesake of the river and has the form of an old woman who always looks over her shoulder behind her to the past. Verdandi (what is) has the form of a young woman, which stands for the present. Skuld (what should be/will be, or guilt) is an ambiguous figure and no friend of men and gods. The Norns spin the thread of life for each person and if the thread is cut at the end of the allotted period of life, the person dies. In Germany there is an old saying that is still used today that is reminiscent of this ancient belief. "his life is just hanging by a thread".

    ⏳ TIME⌛
    Some things should
    Some things shan't(should not)
We see, yet we are blind
    We cast shadows without light
After us, there will be a 'before'
Out of youth, necessity is born already
We keep dying until we live
    (We) die living into(the)death
    We drift towards the end
    No rest, just striving forward
Endlessness is waving at the shore
Captured in the river of time
    Time
    Please stand still, stand still
    Time
This shall go on forever and always
Warm body will be cold soon
    One cannot conjure the future
    Allows for no stay
    Creating and destroying immediately
I lie here in your arms
Oh, could it just be like this forever
But the time knows of no mercy
    Already, the moment is gone
    Time
It is so beautiful, so beautiful
    Everyone knows
    The perfect Moment
    When our time has come
Then it is time to go
Stopping when things are at thier best
    The clocks stand still
    The moment is so perfect
    But the time keeps running(out)
    Moment, would you Please remain

This requires awareness of the cropped grammar used here for more impact, as well as the very careful wording. I will try to transfer these aspects to English.
      Something should, something shouldn't
We see yet we are blind
      We cast shadows without light
      After us will be 'before'
      Youth already becomes hardship
We are dying until we live
We are dying alive into death
To the end we are drifting
      No haste, only striving forward
      At the shore beckons eternity
Caught in the river of time
Time, Please stand still, Please stand still
Time, This shall go on forever like this
Warm body will be cold soon
      Future one can't conjure
      Does not allow a stay
      Creating and destroying at once
I'm lying here in your arms
Ah, if only it could be forever
      But time knows no mercy
      The moment is already gone
Time, please stand still, stand still
Time, this shall go on forever like this
Time, it is so beautiful, so beautiful
      Anyone knows the perfect moment
      When our time has come
Then it is time to go
End when it is most beautiful
      The clocks are stopping
      So perfect is this moment
      But time continues to run
      This instant, please remain
      I'm not ready yet
Explain: this plays with contrasts, the theme of water, the theme of staying and leaving (loss). Some sentences seem not to start at their beginning and others end too early. I'm opposed by some translation choices because they go against the song's themes, eg. Caught in the river (like a fish) vs. Trapped in the river,
End when it is most beautiful vs at their best - beauty is a theme and is repeated here!
And finally, I exchanged moment for instant, because the original shortens the time here too.

As I told you I'm 55 y of age and Rammstein makes music since almost 30 years now but in fact I really noticed them no longer than 2 years ago when an American RUclipsr reacted to the spectacular 'Du hast'. I liked the Video very much and so I tried another song from them and then more and more ... because they all were amazing. So i got icaught into the phenomenon Rammstein.
What I clearly love the most about them is the music. It is just beautiful and every song is unique. Texts and topics are sometimes not that good from my point of viewu. They have becone more mature and of more general nature (time, fear, goodbye, lies) but some earlier songs are weird and even disturbing and if a Rammstein neewbee would hear them first he might probably think that this is all too crazy.
But the point is just that they are true Artists and write songs about everything they want whether it will shock people or not

    This is one of the best videos I have seen in my 54-year life! Makes ya think, a lot... Great lyrics too (even if they could be Google translated)! Rammstein are not only musicians, they are artists - creating pieces of art. The last two years for me has been filled with Rammstein and I am so happy for that! And now, my recommendation for you, sir;
First check out the video of "Mein herz brennt" and the lyrics - then check out Till Lindemann´s and Sven Helvig´s piano-version. Magic!!!
Note: You might have to watch the latter one a couple of times, to get full effect.

Seeing a dude try to swim against the flow of the sands of time, intercut with childbirth, gives a very unstubtle hint that trying to stop the clock is a _bad_ idea.
Yes, we all leave behind moments of happiness and eventually go decrepit and die, but we also leave behind lives changed for the better... and if we're lucky, _kids._
The three reapers are obviously Past Present and Future.

  • @floh667
    @floh667 Год назад

if you go back in time immediately and do things different, you might lose your kids in the presence. This song is partly about this. We often have the wish to go back in time to live certain moments again or make things different. But we forget what we therefore might sacrifice and we should embrace the moment as it comes and see the beauty of it

i am a german pensioner and have been on rammstein for a very long time. From my point of view, the song "Zeit" tops everything the group has done so far. From my point of view, this is not a video clip but a film that should be rewarded with an "Oscar". we are both not the youngest anymore but we still live with rammstein in our hearts.

Hello and thank you so much for your honest, intelligent and sensitive reaction to one of my favorite Rammstein songs.
I would like to write so much but (fortunately) I don' have the physical strength and concentration to write down all my thoughts because i suffer from Parkinson for already 7 years now.
Please excuse my bad English, I'm from Germamy.
Your reaction was a special birthday present for me (I turned 55 lastďý Sunday) and 'Zeit' means a lot to me. Everytime I hear it I have to cry and I want this song to be played at my funeral. The day the song was released in Germany my girlfriend cheated on me and for me the song is not only about life and death and mortality but also about the end of any relationship. No matter what it is it will come to an end.
You did 3 great Rammstein songs already but the truth is that there are 40 more great songs waiting to be discovered by you and at least 15 of them can match the quality of 'Zeit' or 'Deutschland'. Of course I know that you can't react to All of them but every single one you those will be great and ... differenbt!

Another thing that came to my mind is the babies being put back in to the mother to be born again on earth and also coming back in a sense they died on earth and are now being born in the other world and their birth or rebirth on earth is them already starting to die because as soon as your born your dying..your dying to live or as Rammstein put it "Wir sterben weiter bis wir leben" "We keep dying until we live" because in a sense what we perceive as dying is us actually being born again into the other world that's why the girl in the end seems happy when she dies because she knows that her death here means her being born over there..if that makes any Sense? This is art at its finest 🥰

life is a (hopefully) long line of moments, some are good, some not so good, some are perfect.
there is no specific thing that is a perfect moment, but most of us know of a couple... having a child, the moment you realise that the person you love loves you back, that day when everything goes very well.
    i love this song

Beautiful reaction. You are a beautiful soul. This song, this video. Zeit. Time. We live like we own it. But it owns us. Painful. Yet we must see the bigger picture, I guess. Treasure the moment. And know it will end. Heavy. In a way liberating maybe? This is it. Make it worth it.

My interpretation and thought was time goes on like a continuous cycle and those rare occasions when we are truly happy of course we want time to stop. The showing of the sand and hourglass ⌛ time keeps going and them showing the scenes reversing to me meant a desire to go back in time either to the moment of birth and start our lives over or to before we're even born saying no i don't even want to be born i want to go back before i was even conscious of my own existence and mortality. Them being blindfolded to me was no one knows whats going to happen in the future we don't know what kind of lives these babies are going to have.
