FANTASTIC!!! Thanks so much for this preview of the new boat's sea trials. I couldn't tell if Sheryl had a few tears or not because of the sunglasses, but Sally said I did. We are so excited for you and look forward to what's to come next.
Glad you enjoyed it Steve! Yes I think Sheryl might have been crying just a little... it was a very emotional day. Coming up next is the sailing trials!!!!
Congratulations, so nice to see both of you so excited. It‘s been a while right? Thank you also for your kind invitation to visit the KM & Gebr. Enkhuizen open days - it was so nice to meet you in person albeit briefly. We could really sense the personal investment of the Gebroeders Enkhuizen team when we visited you. Wishing you successful sea trails and finally a fresh breeze of sea wind in your face!! Enjoy!!
Wonderful episode! I wondered if you'd have a new video out today and, . . . here you are! : - ) Thanks for the update. I'll find it hard to wait for the next sailing trial.
🎉 it’s great to see both of you together doing what you love love the videos/show congratulations and wow what a nice sv love everything about it can’t wait to see your next journey love you guys and thanks for all you do for the sailing community 😊
Congratulations! Motoring trials on such a brilliant boat, inspired and driven by your great knowledge, derived from long experience. The design and construction look awesome. Even the mooring posts are waiting for some stern to shoreline mooring in remote creeks. See 'Sailing Sweet Ruca' in Patagonia for what I mean. The expertise of the hull and the fit out seems fabulous. I hope you are deservedly thrilled!
So exciting to see our adopted boat under power! We were just saying this morning it is about time for a new video, and here it is! Thank you for uploading this. We are very happy for you.
Paul rarely goes anywhere without wearing his Tilley hat. It’s the best sailing hat we have ever found in 34 years of sailing. We both have a couple. It was designed by fellow Canadian sailor, Alex Tilley. tilley.com/
You kept saying it was nice having the 3rd rudder but you never say how well it works and what the effect was on your steering with the engine running. How did the steering compare to your old boat? Very nice boat, I want one!
The engineeres that were onboard my new boat said, " Drive it like you stole it! "That's what my engineers told me when I tested my new sailboat engine. They wanted it powered up and put under stress for a true test.
@@DistantShoresTV Having the engineering crew aboard during sea trials takes all the ambiguity out of issues that crop up. They don't have to try to interpret what you experienced and are explaining, no matter how expert your description is. Every new boat owner shoukd have this chance. When I sea trialed a sailboat I was going to buy, I had ny surveyor onboard for the sailing and operation of that boat. It was reassuring when he gave me the thumbs up and said, buy this boat, it's in tip top shape. I did and never rejected one day . I still have her 35 years later. She's still in excellent condition. Fair winds.
Congratz guys! The Dutch weather has been unusually wet/cloudy this past year. Only since a week or so, did the summer really come. PS: Embrace that North American/Canadian near singing-like outgoingness when speaking! In some regions in the Netherlands, it can be so chilly that we only start to warm up after a few beers. 😊
Sure looks great. It must feel good getting underway for sea trials and knowing it won't be long before you are underway for the further adventures of "Distant Shores". I am staying tuned. Yay!.
You have such a beautiful looking boat! I love it and think that it's probably the best cruising mono hull that has ever been made but I am partial to catamarans because of the deck space. I've never heard of a three rudder sailboat, only a one and two rudder sailboat. What's the difference having three rudders verses two and do most of the boats that are made at this facility use a three or two rudder configuration? I've always liked the two rudder set up on racing boats with wide transoms a lot and think that they perform much better than a single rudder. The three rudder reminds me of a three skeg or fins on surfboard design called a thruster.
Seemed effortless and problem-less. Congratulations. Good hull speed and engine/prop efficiency, it seems. Oh, "summer" on the calendar in the NL. Seasons typically follow the calendar by 1 month due to the influence of the North Sea on our climate (called moderate sea climate).
Why did you get so small a displays for the chart plotters on the helm and inside? Besides that I bet you are finally happy, nearly there till you can leave for warmer climates
@@DistantShoresTVThanks, but I am talking about the boat that appears a few seconds earlier in this video. Much smaller vessel, than pelagic. With a nice compact pilothouse.
Hi Paul, and Cheryl, congratulations on your first see Trolls the boat/yacht looks fantastic and you both are going to have saw jaws tomorrow from all the smiling you’ve done and I don’t blame you. Keep up the good work. Really appreciate your boat. , Cliff from Australia
You are right of course! The sun was at its very highest June 20 20:50 this year. After that the days are getting shorter. Somehow most people say summer starts that day. But from a climate point of view the summer months are June July and August in the northern hemisphere 😇
Weird that they did not change the language to English on the instruments. e.g. "Diepte" instead of "Depth" Having it in your own language is important in high stress situations. (That you hopefully never have) No need to add extra things for your brain to do if there is high stress. Changing that should not be a real issue.
We left the chartplotter in Dutch while the engineers were doing their tests to make it easier for them. It’s back in English now. You’re right that it’s important for quick decisions. 👍🏻
Always good to get a ‘basin trial’ out of the way to test the fundamental systems - even if it is in a very large basin. In the last video you identified an issue in the engine controls not ‘handing over’ reliably between helm and wheelhouse - what was the resolution? Beautiful boat.😀👍⛵️
I saw your boat today! You were just crossing the bridge behind Kornwerderzand lock, going into the Waddenzee. Enjoy your fantastic boat!
Some white knukles onto the rudder, first time😊. Greetings from Norway.
I got emotional just by feeling your excitement.😢 What a joyous occasion!
White knuckles say it all! Best wishes on your new boat, she is beautiful
I wathced all episodes in one go😅
Beautiful boat glad to see you back on the water look foward to your future vids ok my friends Ben Seattle Wa USA 🇺🇸 ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Congratulations! We appreciated your homage to Sailing Fair Isle through your music. Well done!
Congrats! She's a beauty!
Thanks @LoanwordEggcorn 😍
Wow, looks amazing, really love that you've kept the hull its natural color.
Thank you! Cheers!
Congrats on your new sail boat. Enjoy😊
A big congrats from the crew of Willow II. You both look so happy xx
Thank you so much! 🥰

Thanks @music-man! We're excited to get out and sail for sure. Enjoy your cuppa 😇

@@DistantShoresTV YOU are welcome 😊 🙏
The new boat has a high freeboard - glad to see the ladder on the stern.
You have a boat again!! Congratulations. Fill her up with food and GO. Happy sailing.

:-) Thanks for your kind words. We'll try to get the next video out soon with the test of the sails!
Congratulations, I like your boat very much. The quality of your new boat is very high. The dutch people in Makkum knew how to build boats. Have fun….
Thank you very much!

Must be a popular backing track for sailors “ Fair Isle use the same tune

Well done you two great boat great video
Thanks 👍
Thanks 👍
I have the same one - they’re quite famous, our friend here in Sweden has one
Congrats 🎉

😂 Yes we did just that and found there was some vibration at high revs. An adjustment to the propeller and rudder alignment solved the issue.

love the new DS
Awesome boat. White Knuckles should be a new name for her....😀
Thanks Joey! As we get a bit more familiar with her we'll make some videos about the process of getting to know a new-to-you boat.
Very smart looking vessel. How much solar does she have and how many amps worth in the batterys?
Boat built like a tank! It's advised to have a MFD with hardware knobs at the helm because touch screens don't work [well] in wet conditions.

Nice video! What brand of cork was installed if anyone knows? Seacork? MarineDeck2000?
Magnificent time
Is the more detailed video on hybrid engine that you announced in EP249 coming?
She is just beautiful. The Distance Shore little sister will be out there on her adventures before we know it.
Woo. Good to see a Rival passing 🙂
What a beautiful boat … are you bringing it to ANNAPOLIS in October ?
We will be at the Annapolis Sailboat Show but the boat will be in Portugal 🇵🇹
J’avoue, je suis jaloux 😅
Canada ❤
🥰🇨🇦
Strangely, you played the acoustic intro music to Steve and Judy's RUclips channel Sailing Fairisle.
So is this going to be Distant Shores 4 is that the name ofvthe new boat ❤
The 3rd rutter seems like a brilliant idea. What is the HP of your engine?
are the rudders Orca proof?
Spennende dager for dere! Hvor er der i denne stund - allerede på veg mot Norge?
So exciting to see both of you getting to sea trails . The boat fits you both well.
Looking forward to watching you two enjoy this fine boat!
Makes me proud too be Dutch.
I was .😂
Congratulations!!!! very beautiful!!!
Nice… although the name on the stern looks crooked to me.. 😢

Congratulations! Saw some white knuckles on the wheel at times! 😂
sexy boat!
Can someone name the boat at 8.45?
Yes it's a new launch from KM Yachts. Its the second launch of the Pelagic fleet named "Amundsen" I believe.

First time I have ever seen a content provider with dock lines double back to the boat...no crew a leaping.
Surely the summer solstice is "mid-summer's day". Not the beginning. Now the sun is coming back here to the south.
