All I have to say is people stop being so loyal to these companies. These companies DO NOT care about you. They can close at the drop of a hat and there is nothing you can do about it. I have learned from working on jobs that many of the workplace rumors are true. It pays to pay attention to them especially when the rumors are the company is closing or about to cut back.

Although I don't agree with closing abruptly and leaving the employees blindsided, I can see why. They didn't want theft. I knew an individual that worked at a RL years ago. He said it wasn't uncommon for employees to steal a half case of frozen crab legs and other fish items here and there. He said not all employees did this, but it would happen frequently. Now, tell the employees that they are closing the doors in 2 weeks and you probably would see the freezer emptied in less than a day. It's sad to treat their employees this way, but they are looking out for salvaging what they can.

Since last year when their main investor pulled out of the company entirely, it was a matter of time, there’s likely to be a second and third wave of closures in the weeks to come, eventually though I think Red Lobster will fold entirely, their financial situation is dire. The Thai Union Group is desperate to get rid of Red Lobster and exit the restaurant business entirely, they’re done.
Unfortunately this all comes at the cost of the employees, who get nothing. But the fact they’re even closing up good performing locations is a blinking red light to just how bad it must be if they’re closing profitable locations.
