    Sweet overview! I've settled on the Robox as my recommended printer for schools - the door lock is just that mechanical lever, but makes a big difference around kids. Also the ability for a printer to detect between ABS or PLA means I have to go in for 'repairs' far less often! They had some issues in the early days with the valve seals blowing and the heads becoming gunked up (totally irrepairable) but it seems to be fixed now... certainly one of the most innovative 3D Printers in its price bracket!

    I wish I had a practical way to build an enclosure like the one on this printer, really a lovely and clean aesthetic even years later

    Yes, I know this is 7 years old but I have some of these printers, and I just resurrected another one today, and there are a lot of similarities in the basic thinking for this product and the far newer and much lauded Bambu Labs Carbon X1 ecosystem. Both have a property firmware, both tweaked existing open source slicers to create a simpler workflow and create project files, both use filament IDs, but obviously the motion system and hardware/software solutions are much updated.

    I have this printer and it absolutely kicks ass. Set the print bed temperature to 112 (for ABS) and add a .5mm chamfer or round to the bottom edges of the object you are printing where it contacts the heated bed and your parts will come out 100% perfect. No squashing or flare out at the bottom. The spool system is awesome and I don't understand why people complain about it being an unnecessary complexity, it is a godsend. Hands down the absolute best 3D printer I have used so far and is light years ahead. There are 7 stepper motors involved and are part of the automatic alignment system that can produce parts of such fine detail, the layer lines are virtually invisible... the part comes out having a matte finish. The design of the mechanism is superbly well thought out and very modular. The smart spools are wonderful, you can load whatever material you want after their empty and reconfigure the EEPROM in them with your own personal settings/profiles. I LOVE THIS MACHINE... and I usually nitpick and find problems with everything, but this machine has been superb. You do not have to buy their exclusive filament. The machine is supposedly capable of nylon, but I have not tried that material yet.

    I prefer the technical side of things as well. I'm mostly here to learn new things about 3DP so keep it tech! :D

    Wow, that's nifty solutions.
    I'm one of your viewers that are more happy the more technical and detailed you get (unless you go quantum mechanic I suppose). Thanks for teaching me bits of technical skills with such enthusiasm!

    That reel system is cool and all but I can't help feeling it's more DRM than feature, means you have to buy your spools from them, at a higher cost than generic stuff, it's like 2d printers sold at cost or at a loss and then they get all their profits from massively overpriced ink, or like disposable razors.

    • @doktorfrankenstein13
      @doktorfrankenstein13 8 лет назад

      +Christian Gerefalk he says something about that in the video ;-)

      @KriLL325783 8 лет назад +1

      He did? Just watched the part about the reel again and he doesn't seem to mention it, he just says stuff about how it stores information about the filament.

    • @doktorfrankenstein13
      @doktorfrankenstein13 8 лет назад +1

      he mentions that you can reuse this thingy in the spool and use your own filament, but i have no clue how this works

    • @doktorfrankenstein13
      @doktorfrankenstein13 8 лет назад +1

      starting 1:25 he talks about rewritting the reel and so on

    • @KriLL325783
      @KriLL325783 8 лет назад +2

      Errm, yeah? But that doesn't mean you can buy generic filament and use it, you need to use their reels, re-spooling generic filament onto their reels would be really tricky to do without specialized machinery and you'd need as many of their reels as you intend to get generic kinds of filament.

    Dual-Hotend. But I didn't see Dual-Spool? Neither a Dual-colored print. Whats about that?

    • @KriLL325783
      @KriLL325783 8 лет назад

      +René Jurack I suspect it's because they didn't want to tool a one spool and dual spool variant of the printer with different parts where they're not needed.

    • @jjcc8379
      @jjcc8379 8 лет назад +1

      +René Jurack There isnt a dual extruder either.
      Printers that want the upgrade will need to go through tech service to upgrade.
      It'll have an enlarged dual-spool holder.
      Also, it's not "dual hot end" per se, its "selectable hot end".
      Although the 0.6? mm nozzle is useless, the 0.3 mm is the good one

    • @MakersMuse
      @MakersMuse 8 лет назад

      +René Jurack The robox print head is removable and there's a dual filament head due for release this Christmas - it needs a second extruder motor added but the printers are easily upgrade-able to it which I think is pretty neat!

    • @MakersMuse

      +JJ CC I disagree, the 0.8 is great for larger fast prints and can offer more strength due to the wider extrusion path. Great for small robot kits I've found! :)

    • @jjcc8379
      @jjcc8379 8 лет назад

      +Maker's Muse If you get it to work properly and to stick ... its great. And i'll have to admit they improved first layer adhesion problems a lot recently. Oh boy, 0.8 was such a mess sticking to the bed ... and sometimes it still is

    Hello,
    Excuse me dear, what is the best 3D printer that ranges upto 500$ or close ?
    Thanks
    Best Regards

      Well, it all boils down to what you want in a 3d printer, how much experience you have, and what you are willing to learn. But, I'd recommend a Wanhao Duplicator I3 for only ~$350, but there are so many other options that go according to your position in the additive manufacturing industry. EX. hobbyist, tinkerer, designer, professional.

    • @Nobel0
      @Nobel0 8 лет назад

      I see,
      Actually i am a hobbyist but also designer, so i would draw in 3D for any broken plastic and hopefully printed.
      if i am not bothering u sir, it is better for me the biggest 3D printer in that range.
      Thanks so much for your response, i appreciate your help.
      I will search for Wanhao Duplicator I3..
      Thanks
      Best Regards

    For more info on the dual material head and dual spools and dual extruders you should check their website.
    The dual-hotend they have now its just a selectable hot-end with 2 diferent sizes. The tech is cool and it works ... until it doesn't. And most of this cool tech seems like a beta testing for the dual material head.
    And the form factor of this printer (one of the best selling points of it) is completely lost when you enlarge the spool axis to get 2 spools for dual material prints. Oh boy, it is ugly then.
    I would not agree with Thomas on this video, mainly because I spent too much time repairing this.
    Some tech novelties and improvements are certainly nice, but they need to be tested. And don't turn your early adopters into beta testers.
    As always, best wishes for the ROBOX Bristol team . If I have a quarrel(?) or problem is with the printer and its reliability long term, but the development team is working hard and bit by bit trying to deliver.
    Shame CEL pushed them to release too soon, some flaws persist.

      +JJ CC I've experienced quite a few blown seals in the early days but none for a while, I think they may have finally overcome it... however once the dual material head is available I'll swap to that for sure for simplicity's stake, even if I only print in 1 material.
