"Because it's not complete" That's like an auto bodyshop mounting the hood of the car to the trunk and saying "the job is not done yet"

You know .. Not all homeowners are great to work for .. Many don't realize a minor change chews into the margins quickly .. Most want everything for nothing .. My last ordeal was building an entire home for a homeowner that couldn't make up his mind .. One day he wants a full masonry fireplace since he is set on a real firebox ..I suggested an Isokern .. It's still a masonry fireplace but saves money .. Nah .. He wanted a full masonry fireplace .. Then wants later to have wood siding installed on the exterior chase .. when a week before stone .. Wood has tolerances from the side of a flue liner .. He was adamant .. I want wood .. The roof line flashing was set up for wood .. An ordeal to meet code .. Then back to stone and it was flashed for this wood .. They installed stone and didn't accommodate for stone .. Screwed up the newly installed roofing .. Granted .. I was not The Builder .. I am a carpenter that only knows what is going to happen and where the weak links in the chain are . I advised The dumb builder .. I advised the homeowner .. and it was not my duty .. The homeowner loved all I did but would complain about the builder .. When the interior trim time came .. Questions I had been asking back since framing .. I need to know so tolerances for doors , stairs .. Then trim time comes .. I asked .. What have you ordered to the builder . " I don't know . ask the homeowner " ask the homeowner and he said use the 1x8 he had milled from trees on his property a year before .. Surface dried and crooked .. WTF .. He said he wanted enough left over to do the upstairs flooring .. Sir .. that won't be enough .. What do you want to use ?? Use the 1x8 .. OK .. I ended up wearing out a table saw straigtening every piece into base , casing , stool , extension jambs , chair rail . Then he'd complain " Someone is going to have to pay for this .. I am going to make the builder pay for it ??? No matter how you split it .. You didn't have a enough to do all the trim and the flooring .. Drove me crazy .. For 2 months he was there everyday and he'd tell me to use this for that and that for this .. and I'd repeat .. There isn't enough .. More will be needed . .. He eventually bought more .. I gave him a tally .. and he complained .. Holy Crap .. It's not like I am smuggling this garbage home .. At least this time it was Kiln dried 1x8 ... I was close to finishing with this house of 7000 sq ft .. all I lacked was shoe molding and rails around the verandas ... Then I was diagnosed with cancer .. So I had to leave for surgeries .. I left a worker behind to finish .. Then he comlained to him .. About me using the 1x8 for his trim when he wanted 1x8 to be used for trim .. Homeowners can drive a contractor nuts ..

What I want to know is why you post bits and pieces of a show. Can you post the whole episode. I’ve made attempts to find this show on DVD and no success

The only problem with this show is how they talk about licensing all the time. Some states like ny state do not have a state contractor license. They leave it up to the cities and towns. Where most towns don’t have a license. Just pretty much your major cities

Plus it’s the homeowner own fault for taking the lower bid all the time. I mean if you get a bid of 12000 then one of 6000 then think about it. There is something wrong there

Not always the case. it is agreed at the start what can be done. If the contractor CANT do it, then be honest at the start. Expalin what they will get - not LIES.

@@swimlaps1 unfortunately it is mostly the homeowners fault, especially when it's an insurance claim. Homeowners will get x for the claim, try to find a way to pocket some money and go with the low bid. The low bid is either a contractor that doesn't know what they're doing, or a contractor that plans on getting a contract then change ordering the project to death. Either way, if Homeowners aren't constantly trying to profit of an insurance claim, this crap wouldn't happen. I never can understand why people think they're insurance company is in business to over pay on a claim
