I’m going to try this as I have recently started getting horrible tightness in my neck and shoulders/traps area.. just wondered though do I need to strengthen my neck too as I feel it might be weak or should this suffice? These exercises look great but they don’t strengthen do they? Thanks
Hi Khadija, No, pandiculations, the movements of Somatics, are not strengthening exercises. They are pandiculations which are neither stretching or strengthening exercises. They are movements to address sensory motor amnesia. They should release tension in your body, not just your neck, so you take back voluntary control of your body and muscles. Side note: My clients report that they are stronger in their workouts now that they do Somatics. Even after the first time of doing Somatics. Not to be snarky, but what are neck strengthening exercises anyway? 😁 If your alignment in your body is good, your neck and head should simply balance at the top of your spine with ease. Tightening muscles around the neck limit range of motion. No es bueno. ;-) To really address your question and particular needs you should work with a Somatic Educator, either online or in person, to really understand where your SMA is, and how best to address it. Private sessions can be very helpful, and unlike body work, generally just a 1 to a few Somatics sessions should help. In the long run, a big money and time saver!
@@kristinj2507 Thanks, yes you’re right… if alignment is correct you should be ok I mean just the act of holding your neck up on a daily basis is exercise right?! I’ll give these exercises a go, thanks for your prompt reply 😊
not to negate you , but i disagree...To me she speaks VERY clear. ...and is how it is when you are doing this kind of movement while you are lying down...it's not as though she is speaking to herself..to me ..i don't why you think that...it's how you explain the movement to anyone else. Do you have a hearing problem perhaps? Or maybe need to turn up the sound?
