I work at a grocery store. People are so selfish. March is the month we raise money for the food banks. People actually have the audacity to say to me, "There's no food for me, so I wont donate". Most people have more than enough food to last for months. It is such a privilege to go grocery shopping every week. People need to be smart about issues like this. It will all work out. It always does. The hoarding is so annoying. I have hated working lately just because of all the ignorant people.

I can't imagine the stress you are having to deal with. I doubt you have much of a choice, but thank you for doing what you do!!! Grocery workers deserve more respect, especially right now. I really hope it gets better. My local grocery stopped stocking in the AM because the same people would line up before it opened to hoard everything that came in. They are stocking at random times and telling regulars and people who have been respectful when they'll have items available. I have allegies, specifically a corn allergy, and I'm already completely out of safe food. I've been out of safe water for a week. Now I'm running out of benadryl because I've been having to drink/eat things that I shouldn't. It shouldn't be like this. The people who are hoarding are aholes, they're making it hard for people who really need things to find the things they need.

@@TheWhimsicalFamily Hi! Thanks for asking. We are waiting for the peak of the infection. The infection rates are slowly stabilising, but the worst situation is in Lombardy: numbers there continue to rise. We expect the peak to be reached in the next 2 weeks, while hoping that the disease doesn't move South (too much at least). That would be a disaster. Probably we'll have to keep the lockdown well over Easter, to avoid a comeback of the virus. Fingers crossed

I didn't look at the plant milk section but I bet that was untouched too. LOL So except for me being a bit sad all the lentils are gone, my diet hasn't changed a bit. I still had no trouble getting fresh vegetables and oranges. Heck, I even tried eggplant for the first time! I decided I'm just not going to the store unless there is something I really need.

I'm not a vegan, though I do like veggies. But disasters (like Corona) causes a lot of people to get anxious (if not outright panicky). It's part of the "fight or flight syndrome" that likely saved your earliest ancestor from being eaten by a Sabertoothed Tiger millions of years ago. My hope is that those who say that Corona will weaken and peter out, or at least slow down considerably, once it gets hot (like the flu) are correct. Also, the FDA has approved a malaria drug in order to fight Corona and will hopefully fast track vaccines that are already being worked on. So there is reason for optimism. I have been able to find food pretty easily, but I have noticed some things are scarcer than others.
A number of grocery stores where I live have put limits on certain items, like toilet paper and paper towels. They've also instituted "no return" policies. If this Corona thing eases out in the mid/late summer, expect to see a lot of toilet paper and hand sanitizer at neighborhood yard sales.

I went grocery shopping today. I shop for a family of four and I go every 4-6 days depending on if I need to quickly go get 2 things cuz I ran out of them when I didn’t expect to. It’s not a big deal, you don’t need to stock up on things. If you run out of something, buy one or two packs of it but you don’t need more than that. Buying everything up will make other people buy everything up which is how you get yourself and everyone in you community in a mess. Don’t be selfish. Just take what you need.

I’m a frontline nurse so I am not “hoarding” but I am very well stocked with items for longevity (in case I get sick). I do giggle every time I go to the market and the refrigerator/freezer section is packed with vegan items only, which works for me 😂. Also you can sign up for a food delivery service that drops off 1 week of dinner at a time. It has been a lifesaver the last two weeks since the grocery store has been out of some of my go tos. On the bright side, we are going to try some new foods this week because the store was out of my regulars. I love this common sense video!

So helpful to remind people that they will make it through until the next store deliveries. I'd also strongly suggest that vegans start growing kale and other greens, now. I always have several large pots of kale, spinach, arugula, and mustard greens going in my kitchen, year-round. Gardening is a great project to start if you are basically stuck at home for a few weeks.

This was really helpful. My family loves eating rice, beans, and tortillas lol so we haven’t been worried on that front. The only issue has been people purchasing items out of panic and leaving nothing for the rest of us. When I’ve gone to the store, it’s been only to get items we’re out of and plan to use in the near future, like when we ran out of almond butter, some fresh veggies, and bread. I think it’s important people take this time to roughly plan out their meals and only get necessary items like you said. Again, great video!

Here's my monthly meal plan I just made (i spend less than 100 a month and like my food/am full/ have enough to buy the occasional snack):
    - on a baking pan: asparagus, onion, nutritional yeast flavoring, garlic powder, and chili powder
    - tortilla soup
    - tacos
    - curried cauliflower (cauliflower, red onion, peas, curry powder)
    - 2 different bowls: the base is quinoa/rice, onion, garlic, kale with either: 1) peas, zucchini, tahini, lemon, maple syrup, salt or 2) broccoli, soy sauce, dijon, red chili flakes
    - potatoes w vegan butter (blue bell's the cheapest), bacon bits, nutritional yeast, garlic powder
    - stir fri (ramen noodles and frozen stir fri veggies w sriracha and soy sauce)
    - bagels (i put butter, garlic, dried basil, and balsamic on them)
    - pb toast w banana
    - banana pb smoothie (literally just banana, peanut butter, maple syrup, ice, and water)
    - cereal and almond milk
    - oatmeal
    - oj, apple cider, a kombucha or two
    - cookieeessss (there are hella good ones for 2 bucks at safeway)
    - maybe frozen food items
    Tips:
    - take advantage of things in season so u don't get tired of eating the same stuff
    - overlap the produce you're buying so that they can go into more than one meal
    - even if you don't have a plan for something, if you see something at a lower price than usual that's non perishable and useful, get it
    - drink coffee from a coffee pot/use a thermos to bring it places
    - Hardly ever go to the store and make meal plans building off stuff u already have

Hi great video, I really like the fact that you reminded people no to panic. It is really important, people definitely over stock for no reason. I have not witnessed much people having crazy shopping bag, but I can definitely see that aisle cleared much faster than usual. We have to be a little bit more creative than usual though.
A tip for cooking beans (especially the ones that are chunky and long to cook like chickpeas or pinto bins). I usually soak them for 24 hours usually overnight), I rinse them and I cook them in a pressure cooker for 45 minutes. It is much more energy efficient and faster. I usually cook a big batch like 500 grams of dry beans, and once it is cooked I eat some and put a lot in the freezer so they are ready to go for the next time I need them :)

    • @Talking2thEEMoon

What are some examples of the large bag of whatever you buy to save on plastic?

    • @brits.4581

LoveN' Happiness I live by myself so large to me might be small to a family of 4+. I usually go to the dried sections of wherever I shop which is usually king soopers or Sprouts when I still have the bulk items but am running low. If the item is on sale or the cheapest option per ounce, I either buy the biggest bag possible at king soopers or I almost completely fill one of sprouts’ plastic bulk bags. To save the plastic, I write what I put in the bag and reuse it for next time. I don’t have a zero waste bulk store near me and sprouts doesn’t allow your own bags in the bulk section so this is the best I can think to do.

I went to Winco this past Sunday and the place was packed with people, and barely any vegetables, no eggs, meat, water. Good video-however it would be even more helpful if you added things that support your immune system, that have anti viral properties. We are all vulnerable to exposure to this virus without having any idea we are being exposed. Best way to do self care is make sure your supply of supplements, and specific fruits and vegetables that are supportive and/or healing for viral infections.

Oddly, in the places where I have been shopping, there has been plenty of fresh produce. Toilet paper has been the one consistent challenge. Generally the stores have had everything else. Also, sometimes smaller places have better stock. I've been pleased at what I've been able to find at the tiny grocery store right next to where I live.
