Hi! Didn’t expect this video to get this much attention, but I’m not complaining LMAO
If anyone’s interested, I cohost streams regularly on Nudge And Prod! Most of the content on his channel consists of playing through games for the first time, such as the entire Sonic series, Kingdom Hearts, Mega Man, and more!
    youtube.com/@nudgeandprod
And of course, as I said in the description, credit to Thor for the footage in this video. His Animal Well playthrough is top notch, I highly recommend it!

We tried to work it out and explain it away. We own a small tech company that does odd tech jobs around our very small town. We thought maybe someone we'd fix we'd fixed an ipad for was still connected to our wifi and accidentally printed something to our printer, but that made no sense because the person lives on a farm like 15 minutes away. So glad we finally have an explanation. 😂😂

The explanation may be such an uncommon occurrence as to be completely unpredictable (like I never would have guessed the footsteps were actually printed paper falling) but the explanation exists nonetheless
Attributing it to “ghosts” is just what you do when you don’t have access to the full information. Your brain evolved to find patterns, of course some paper falling sounds more like footsteps than random noise!

The program needs to have the libraries included before it's compiled and there needs to be a block of code to specifically reference it. None of my exe's can access your printer because I didn't design them too.
So if you have an issue with exe's doing unintended behaviors that aren't otherwise disclosed to the user, consider it malware and delete it.

As a game dev, yes we can absolutely access damn near anything on your PC or WiFi network, including your IP, WiFi connections (printer), camera, etc. Any app that runs on your PC can do this, usually by executing powershell/cmd scripts or using a library that specifically queries your PC for data. Only certain countries, like the UK, require developers to disclose the info they collect about you when you install an application. Otherwise, it’s free real estate for most countries.
Basically, if you’re afraid a game is going to mess with you, that fear can apply to literally any program you download, so you may as well not use any applications if you’re that worried.

It's just sending off a print job. It's a little weird Windows doesn't require extra permissions to do this.
But any program you run on your computer could potentially do this. It's nothing id call malicious though. Your browser, Ms word etc doesn't require any extra permissions to do this

A game that accesses my external devices that do not directly pertain to playing the game, uses my paper/Ink without my explicit consent, and randomly chooses said device based on what is detected first is not a game worth supporting; especially considering the rest of game does not imply that the there are aspects of the game that will do this.
People get angry over developers accessing your files in games, but somehow excuse this game when it accesses your external devices. Double standard gamers with not a single cell in their brains.
