  • In this video we are starting up an anubias growth experiment to determine what is the best way to grow anubias in my emersed setup. We will be evaluating the difference between growing substrates and the different water flow pattern in my ebb and flow emersed setup. Stay tunes for future updates as these plants become more established in this system.

Thanks everyone for watching! This video was filmed a few months ago and I'm happy to report the anubias plants are doing really well in this setup and I have some really surprising results to share!😃I'll be posting an update video in the next little while so stay tuned! 🌱🌱

hi, thanks for the nice video .
I want to ask though, why was yiour water goinh up and down. was it intentional and what are the benefits

Anubias don't need the flooding cycle once they're converted to being emersed. You need 90% humidity. Best way to raise humidity to to raise the temp of the water. Either using a aquarium heater or using heat mats for seedlings from a hydroponic store. Your containers need to be air tight. Best grow medium I found is miracle gro regular potting mix. I use coconut fiber pots to plant it. You need to raise the fiber pots off the bottom of what ever your growing in. I use light diffuser from home depot. By raising the pots off the bottom I use it as a reservoir for the heater. I use a 75 gallon tank with glass lids cut from lowes.

This is a fantastic experiment and I'm really looking forward to the results. I'm also glad to see your channel is back. Your vids were a huge help to me when I got into the hobby several years ago.

I think gravel is fine it what we used before expanded clay balls
Keep your clay balls in water over time they will sink and you will be able to use them if they are the type from a hydroponic shop
I am a little worried about the soil ? As it will settle into the trays with only rock and start to fill in the air space that it creates for your roots
The ebb and flow tables used for hydroponic growing of normal plants were created to not only water and feed the roots but to pull oxygen through the media
But this is an interesting experiment and for the plants you are growing this probably doesn't matter as I think they feed more through there leaves
Anyway you have me hooked ill be waiting and watching your results
Also what hydroponic nutrients are you using and at what ppm and pH ?

Hi, I have been growing mostly eatable plants with an aquaponic system for quite some time now but I am also a enthusiastic fish keeper. I must admit that I have never put one and one together.
Here where I stay aquarium plants are very expensive and I have tried a couple of ways to propagate aquarium plant but unfortunately not with a great success. So I will give this a try. I live in the southern hemisphere and I have my doubts that sun will cause algae.
I am super excited to see what the outcome of your experiment is.
    Regards from Africa/Namibia

Thanks for watching! Growing emersed aquarium pants is a great way to quickly propagate and expand the number of plants you have so this sounds like a great idea if plants are hard to come by or expensive where you are from. If you have issues with algae growing you can try modifying your emersed setup so only the roots are exposed to the water and this will help limit the amount of algae growth on the leaves. Good luck!

Wow youtube spying on me! I just got back from my japan trip and bought the rarest kinds of bucephalandras! And planning on growing them emersed for the first time.

Sounds awesome! Good luck growing the buce! I hope they convert well in your emersed setup. I just recently got some buce and it has been slowly transitioning for me so I'm looking forward to expanding my collection!

Thanks, I just posted a video covering the 6 month update of this experiment. I did have some algae issues but nothing too major. In the video I discussed how I was able to control the algae.

What fertilizer are you using and how do you mix it. Thanks.

    • @Widquatics

I started off using some basic miracle grow that I had on hand but ended up switching to a proper hydroponic fertilizer. I'm currently using general hydroponic fertilizer and I'm getting much better growth. To mix the fertilizer I shut off the pump so all the water drains into the bottom reservoir, that way I can replace the water and mix new fertilizer before turning the pump back on.
