    • @AnotherWorldTerraria
      @AnotherWorldTerraria  4 года назад

      There is no specific humidity measurement. It depends on air movement, temperature, amount of decaying matter present, substrate age, and many other factors. So, best to use a little ventilation and then increase if needed.

      @Brad Harrison Bolbitis, Anubias, etc can be grown exactly the same way as explained in this entire tutorial series. The conditions they like are the same as Buce, except for the other ones I would not use lava rock or anything that raises the pH too much (some plants won't mind the pH though. Java fern seems to do well on lava rock). So just Fluval Stratum or something like that.

    • @AnotherWorldTerraria
      @AnotherWorldTerraria  3 года назад

      I have not directly planted a submersed Buce into emersed culture, however some of the plants I received may have been grown submersed without me knowing it. Yes, you can just plant them in suitable emersed conditions and they will adapt. Make sure the humidity and wetness are very high at first, then you can gradually reduce them slightly. There may be some loss of foliage or drying out of the submersed foliage until the plant adapts to emersed conditions.

    Hello I have a question. Is it possible to plant buce attached to rocks placed on the inner side of a backyard diy stream? The water runs almost all the time and it gets a lot of sunlight during the day. The climate here is humid and it is currently the monsoon season which means a lot of rain. But in the sunny seasons, would the sun be too harsh on them or would it be fine since they're emersed? (As in having the running water cover it but not fully). I would really appreciate your answer on this!

    • @AnotherWorldTerraria
      @AnotherWorldTerraria  8 месяцев назад

      I would avoid direct sun, as I believe most or all Buce prefer shaded conditions. Also you said nothing about the temperatures where you live. Make sure the temps year round stay above the min temps for the species. I don't know anything about that, you'll need to research the climate for the species.

    for ventilation - is using small computer type fans overkill, or would the amount of airflow from them, too much or have you tried this? I know in my greenhouse (i hybridize orchids) ventilation is very important, and knowing i keep the humidity up in the greenhouse, there is a balance between the moisture (aka humidity) and air movement to be optimum... wondering if you have tried this on your level.

    • @AnotherWorldTerraria
      @AnotherWorldTerraria  Год назад

      I don't use fans for Buce but you could if you kept them very low speed AND if you had zero ventilation in order to keep the humidity super high). To be clear, air movement / circulation is different from ventilation. Movement / circulation is internal, ventilation is air exchange between inside and outside air). So no ventilation if you use fans, to avoid humidity from dropping and desiccating the Buce foliage and causing the substrate to dry up too fast. But Buce love to be wet and humid, they can take it way better than orchids can. For most orchids I almost always try to have fans, like you.

      Have you added any fertilizer? If not, that may be part of the problem. I use Osmocote Plus. Also, sometimes new plants take a while to get going and occasionally the new growth may not look as good if the leaf was already forming before it was transplanted. Add fert and give more time. If plant is healthy but color is pale it might be too much light. Experiment and LMK how it goes.

      The exact humidity level doesn't really matter as long as it's "high humidity" which you can know is the case if you have a mostly sealed bin and moist substrate. Basically the higher the humidity the better. These plants can grow submersed so they obviously don't mind 100% humidity. A hygrometer isn't really necessary.
