Rafferty was one of those rare musicians who didn't want the fame - just wanted to make music. Such a tragic loss. A few more of his Songs you might enjoy, "To Each And Every One of You", "City to City", "Home and Dry", "Night Owl", "Family Tree", "Sleep Walking" and "Wise as a Serpent".

Gerry suffered with alcoholism and depression throughout his life and this heartfelt track was written for his wife Carla Ventilla who he met in 1965. She spent a large part of their marriage helping Gerry through his issues but in the end it finally got too much for Carla and they divorced in 1990, twelve years after he wrote this for her. RIP Gerry, a fine musician.

This was the follow up to Baker Street.

I agree with your Level 42 recommendation. I lived in London in 1986 and where ever you went, Level 42 was playing. I bought the Lessons In Love CD (the new format that was replacing vinyl records) at Virgin Records where I met a relative new-comer, Daniel Day Lewis, who was there promoting his National Theatre play, The Futurists. The Pretenders Chain Gang began playing and when he sang along, DDL really belted out, "For making us paaahhhhhrt!" I digress, but that memory is always tied to my Level 42 CD because DDL signed the case. I saw Level 42 at Wembley Stadium in December 1986. Great times and wonderful country to visit.

OMG I watched your little girl dancing to Prince and it brought back such memories of my younger daughter when she was around that age. She would do this in her room or make the bed of my pickup truck her “stage”, until she saw us watching and she would do that embarrassed withdrawal just like your daughter. She’s in her 30s now and I’m past 70. Thank you for bringing a sentimental tear to an old man’s eye.

Also, it's a patient song; it is waiting to sink into your emotions years later, allowing itself to resonate deeper into your heart. Right Down The Line will just grow and grow its way into you.

It was really nice to grow up at a time when meaningful pop/soft rock songs like this were all over the radio, as well as hard rockers, metal, prog, r&b, soul, even disco, you name it!

Amber & Jay, The *"Steelers Wheel - Stuck In The Middle With You"* reaction you did a year ago is actually Gerry Rafferty singing, even though he's not pictured as the singer in the music video that you watched. (The video was made after Gerry left the band but it's him singing)

Found your channel via suggested algorithm. Love seeing the younger folks experiencing 'new' music. I've been doing a similar thing at work; listening to new stuff from my younger coworkers. Keep it up!

What I have always liked about Gerry was his voice was so smooth and soothing. You just get lost in the song. They just don't make music like this anymore and I was a teenager that grew up in the 80's and saw and heard some of the best music ever. If you want to have a song that tugs at your heart, give a listen to Red Sovine. Old style country with great story telling.

Im sooo glad you guys finally picked this one, Ive commented for it a bunch of times!! Baker Street is sooo good too, but this cut here might very well have one of the BEST bass lines in modern music, and it is played flawlessly. Such a good tune, with such a good flavor. One of the best cuts around, even your local butcher would be jealous!

@@adallen3 "Same Old Lang Syne" for this time of year should be next choice for Fogelberg, But since Jay likes strings & Amber likes horns "Netherlands" for Jay & "Longer" for Amber would be my next trip down the Fogelberg rabbit hole, than more suggestions to come.
