I think it's not really much a choice where you can say "Snap out of it!". If you live in a concrete jungle, that's where you live. You can't take a walk and smell the flowers. A lot of people HAVE to participate, HAVE to live in a tiny concrete cube, and HAVE to eat carcinogenic slop, if they want to save and make enough money with the hope of escaping. Of course money matters so much to people. It's the only ticket to get out. I don't just look down at my hands go "...Oh my God..!", and then suddenly find myself in a beautiful lodge in the woods, singing with the birds. It can take decades of participating and feeding the dystopian machine to escape from it. And people indulge in any kind of escapism until they do, because otherwise, they might end up a red stain on the bottom of an overpass, because they can't take it anymore.
A problem in their endeavors: No matter how much they save and invest, it’s really unlikely they’ll afford anything good for retirement, and there will be old people saying “Just work harder.” like that is cared for by jobs anyway.
For me, the most standout part of this video was where you talk about needing to relax after something like taking a walk, or watering the plants. I never thought of it that way, but it seems that's how I'm wired too. This one really bugs me, because I don't often think about being elsewhere when doing these things, I simply turn my thinking brain off, lose track of time, and pay attention to what I'm doing -- the quality of everything I do reflects that. I think I'm about as mindful as mindfulness gets. And yet still... I take no joy in it, and it wears me down. I wonder why.
A year ago, this video would've made my chest tight because I would'be been terrified of having so many of my problems and flawed, unfulfilling way of life be addressed. Now, I'm mostly living with the sort of healthier mindset you presented. I'm still on technology more than I should be, but that's because of my disability making getting out frequently more pain than it's worth. But while ai am home, I try to at least limit my social media usage. Usually, unless I think of something in particular I really think I'll get value out of watching, I stay off RUclips. For the other apps, sometimes I check them relatively frequently, other times, for days or weeks on end I'll forget they exist altogether. I haven't perfected this way of life yet, but I no longer feel that same grip on my life from technology that it used to have. I spend a lot of time in bed or out on the porch without any stimulation and just sit alone with my thoughts for, as crazy as this may sound, hours on end sometimes. I think doing this makes what time I do spend online feel more worthwhile, and less like everything is just there to keep me busy. In addition, I've always wanted to tell stories but never had the patience to put in the effort into writing. But now that I spend so much time alone with my thoughts (continued in replies)
I'm able to think of ideas for stories, and I'm getting close to starting the third act in my first ever novel! If anyone had the patience to read this long ass comment, I hope you figure out how you can find your own fulfillment out of life and break away from the soul crushing unfulfilling lifestyle you might be living rn. From my experience, it's greatly worth it. Learn to realize everything you need is within.
idk man I just stumbled around your main youtube channel recommending your second youtube account talking about stuff other than gaming, it is the most interesting stuff I've heard in a while and helps grind those gears of thinking. thank you for doing these
Trust me man, here in Easter Europe it's the exact same thing, don't know where you've heard that we're not materialistic and consumerist, but we definitely are.
2 things, 1. Have you ever played cyberpunk? I think youd enjoy it. 2. You were kinda on to some stuff, but i dont really think you were cooking. That stuff you said about the east being more content with less is just false. Not sure which parts of the east youre talking about exactly, im not familiar with all of their situations, but i am a little familiar with china, japan, and south korea. The competeion in those countries are high. It isnt just, "put food on the table and be satisified" theres big pressure to make sure you succeed in life with your education and career. South korea and japan have some of the highest suicide rates in the world. Japan has a word for when you die from work exhaustion. China has a word for their regular 12 hour a day 6 days a week work schedule. China also has a phrase that many young adults are using that says,"lot it rot" it just means give up, give up on the rat race, give up on society, give up on it all, just stop trying. Maybe you have an idea that people with less money are more content, because they appear to be that way. But thats because its all they have and they have to make the most of it, and if they could leave poverty they would. Also people in poverty are forced to have a stronger sense of community because you have to rely on each others help. When we get too much money we become individualist and we forget that family and friends are really important. Our problem for those of us not in poverty, is that we dont have a purpose. Most people make money their purpose, which is the wrong choice. To find my purpose, i try to imagine a world with no work, what would i do to find fulfillment if i had infinite free time. For me that would be my friends and family, creating art, and working out. Also budhism and meditation are great for you, you dont have to believe all the stories like, "a monk meditated so hard that he started floating and flew away" but practicing meditation and mindfulness works wonders for your mental health. Just learning to be content with your life and finding satisfaction with existince. But thats just me, feel free to live life how you wanna.
yo its me again, in one of your videos about consistency i challanged myself to do songwriting every day for a month. I did just that and also got better at singing in the process. In a few weeks time in preforming at a sorta concert where you can sing one song close to you. I wanna say thank you because without your video's it wouldnt be possible. I also believe this video in particalar is one that will help me. so again i wanna set out a goal and i will update you if i make it. I will challange myself to take a walk in nature every day for a month, to meet up with a friend outside of school 2 days a week for 4 weeks and to limit my screentime (Excluding music) to 1 hour a day. I will tell you if i make it because i recognize in putting a big challange on my plate but i feel like ill be able to do it. Lastly i want to ask if you could make a video about jealousy.. I've been struggling on how to deal with this feeling. Once again, thank you for pushing me in the right dirrection to better my life.
I don't know if this will help you, but something that has helped me with jealousy is to remember that we don't have the full picture on other's lives. What we see, that we're jealous of, might've required a great amount of struggle and failure. If it didn't, then that person might not have developed the skills they need to continue doing the things we're jealous of. Your unique skills, perspective, and interest are very valuable and irreplaceable. I wish you the best in meeting your goals.
A bit late to the party, but part it is also people are very much trapped in their lives struggling to just make ends meet and treading water to keep from drowning under the simple cost of living. (Not having sick days and many jobs simply not giving vacation time/personal days only compounds this problem.) When the majority of your pay check goes into rent/vehicle costs, groceries, and whatever other essentials your kids/family need there's precious little left over for entertainment and relaxation options. This is compounded by the sad reality that a video game is a cheaper option for recreation than a weekend trip to the state forest for a hike, or if you live in a city, the additional hassle of finding an affordable avenue of entertainment (Be it a festival, or day trip to the museum, and then making the time to go there and do the thing that's happening during its hours of operation.) Often people want to spend their precious few hours away from working having fun, not planning how to have fun, or traveling to/from the fun place, let alone the additional cost of affording that fun. On that front alone paying $50 for a video game and then playing it more or less on demand for weeks as leisure time allows is a much more rewarding experience, and takes less commitment, stress and planning than taking the family out to the beach that weekend, not counting the additional costs and time to just organize that outing in the first place. Video games are just the best option for fun for people who are overworked, underpaid, and accept that a vacation somewhere exotic like Paris (or even within the USA on a hunting trip or to Disney Land or whatever, ) is an hefty cost they'd need to save up for months/years to afford, sacrificing entertainment and happiness during that lengthy interval.
It's so weird that this video ended up on my feed, I don't look for this type of content and I don't watch/like Minecraft BUT I was talking on Instagram about a similar topic with someone just a couple hours ago...Damn these corporations, there is no need to make it so obvious that you are spying on us! Anyway, it was really nice to hear this video and I want to tell you something that I said to this person a little while ago. Take care of others because when someone falls it's like Risiko, they will probably take you with them. We will only be happy when we take care of each other. (i.e. never). Social support (I guess that's the English word, sorry, I'm Italian) is also key to living a happy life. You have no idea how important this really is. Unfortunately we live in an era of loneliness, anxiety and stress and social support is almost utopia. Yes, I know you're probably damn lonely, I am too. When I finish work my only relationship is with my dog. Which I love and thank God every day for having! In fact, I hope to die before my dog, no one would notice anyway and I would still feel satisfied because in this empty era there is nothing to make all this suffering worth it.
Taking care of others so they don't fall and drag you with them is good advice. Take care of yourself for that same reason. If nothing else, who'd feed your dog if you went first? As for making the suffering worth it -- there's nothing I can suggest on that front yet, I'm struggling with that myself. Would be a lot easier if I wasn't too fvcked in the head to work. Unknown emotions rule me as I'm too stone faced to understand them. Common problem, unique severity. I'd be a fully functional self-supporting adult otherwise. And if I didn't have the support system you mention as I try to navigate this... I wouldn't be around right now. I also wouldn't be around if I didn't realize in time that I'd just drag people down further if I left. So don't be too keen to leave yourself. There's always someone who'd care, even if it's just a witness... or a dog.
but think of the poor big money CEOs who won't get a bigger paycheck this year if we don't keep pushing for more... they won't be happy... lol... seriously though, our society is broken on a fundamental level and Capitalism itself has a massive part to play in that. Not trying to say throw it out completely, we just need to look at alternatives and find a way to shift our society to care more about people than money.
"Escape from this digital, cubical world that doesn't satisfy humans, because it's unnatural to them!" "We always want more! Learn to be happy with what you have, and find satisfaction in your work, even if you hate it!" This video is so all over the place. You're advocating complacency with the system, and at the same time you're saying to get out. You're saying to get out and escape, and you're saying to know your place, don't strive for more, and cope with the fact that you hate it. I'm really sorry, but there's really no point to this. These really seem like the all-over-the-place Monday morning thoughts of a wagie stuck in traffic, and nothing more.
@@solacespeaks you have little to no political awareness, you blamed everything going wrong in society on screens, cars, dating apps, desk jobs, our fiat currency, food, and the fact that people drink beer. Only four out of seven of these things make any sense, and that is only if you actively interpret meaning into what you say to make your thoughts sound reasonable. A list of things that actually are going wrong in society would be things being too expensive and everything costing money, car infrastructure making in person socializing inconvenient, unaffordable housing, college, healthcare, kids, and retirement, bull**** jobs that make up nearly half of all jobs, the fact that we spend most of our time working, doing chores or recovering from work, wealth inequality, how we elect presidents, consumer culture and how our economy is built off of wasting things, and some global issues like how we conduct trade and start wars which can negatively affect the supply chain. You reference some of these things in the form of how people react to them, with doom scrolling and being generally unsatisfied with life, but you ultimately pin the responsibility for life being miserable on people not being grateful when there are real things causing the en****ification of life for the average person. Oh yeah also much of this can be explained by the drive for profit so one can live conformablely, and if they cant, destructive alternatives pose themselves as the answer. Lmao capitalism and corporatism at its finest
The contrast between this topic and the Minecraft gameplay on screen is just amazing hahahahaha

Sucks for them, advice is still good

for real kinda irked me how he completely brushed over the worker culture in east asia
so much worst than the west
I am mainly referring to eastern ways of thinking and how traditional cultures in places like Japan think - not the modern version.

10:45 this isnt true for china or japan or korea. Its american work culture on crack, most workers are pretty depressed
