Walter Hooper: A Disciple of C. S. Lewis Who Became Catholic - The Journey Home (7-21-2003)

Walter Hooper grew up an Anglican in Kentucky. While studying at the University of North Carolina, he discovered C. S. Lewis and fell in love with his writings. In the late 1950’s he began to correspond with Lewis and in 1963 was invited to Oxford to meet him. After tea, Walter was invited to stay the summer with Lewis and his brother. After returning to the States to teach, he learned that C. S. Lewis had died on November 22, 1962. The Lewis family invited him to return to England and he has spent the rest of his life as the executor of the literary estate of C. S. Lewis. Later Walter was ordained an Anglican priest. He was received into the Catholic Church in 1988.
