      my thoughts exactly, people love to have double standards

    • @alexwhite6554
      @alexwhite6554 9 месяцев назад +12

      @@twisted_autumn well it's also got to do with emotional and mental capicity, things that almost all arthropods are severely lacking in. If you want to find the real big double standards theres mukbangs of people eating octopuses alive despite them literally being confirmed to be sapient.
      Oh, and both cows and pigs score alot higher than dogs on cognition tests but people only get up in arms about one of those being dinner.
      Don't even get me started on veal oh. My. GOD

    • @twisted_autumn
      @twisted_autumn 9 месяцев назад +3

      @@alexwhite6554 oh yeah for sure, ive refused to ever try veal in my life, like my mentality is when it comes to meat is that from a nature standpoint we require its nutrients and so we are meant to eat it, and me not consuming the flesh of something that was already killed by someone else anyway isnt really affecting anything so might as well, but yeah veal as a concept is so messed up i wont touch it despite that ideology and its something id rather stop
      on the other hand though, while definitely true that in a quantity sense the vast majority of arthropods seem to lack any cognition besides the basic necessities of self preservation, given their size as a group of organisms and diversity there are still plenty where that is not at all the case. take centipedes, for an example, as one is in this video
      people tend to see them as thoughtless sticks of raw aggression and feeding instinct, yet if you actually look at their biology and behaviour you will see that most of their method of attack and "violent" nature just comes down to the fact they are fairly fragile and also that they are almost completely blind in that their eyes only picks up on light levels and movement but do not form images, they dont really know whats going on unless their antenna can get a read on something which makes them very flighty and defensive if startled
      another thing a lot of people do not seem to realize is a lot like many arachnids, quite a few centipede mothers actually raise their children, coiling around them for protection and showing them how to hunt, and to that extend with a few species near the ends of their lives by the time they mate will even have their children consume them to give them a better chance at surviving themselves, something you dont even really see in any vertebrates or anything really besides centipedes, spiders, and some marine creatures
      anyways yeah ive yapped on for a long long time and i understand if no one wants to read this, kinda went overboard haha, but i suppose my point is that while i understand that perspective it still is my belief that a lot of people have a clear double standard when it comes to the death of vertebrates compared to that of invertebrates, regardless of if they are known to show a sort of emotional or mental capacity or not, and im not all that sure if it has more to do with ignorance or simple indifference, but whatever the case yeah we all gotta consume

Not sure where you are based but, in the UK, live feeding anything sentient to a pet is illegal and could/would lead to charges of animal cruelty. It's rare to find a pet shop that sells pet mice etc to prevent people buying them to feed to pet snakes etc. A former neighbour of mine had snakes and had to order packets of mice and chicks that had been killed by monoxide-poisoning and frozen to feed her snakes.

I also saw Another video on RUclips of a Prairie Rattle Snake eating a Baby Chick but not of it eating after when it was done killing it. It still died but it took at least 2 or 3 minutes longer compared to this video the S.gigantia killed the thing under 2 minutes! This very surprises me! However this wasn’t a Snake it was a South American Giant Centipede S.gigantia Dark morph. And venom kicked in very quickly
