Originally released on VHS in 1989, this video is from John Farnham's performance with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra at the National Tennis Centre, Melbourne. This performance was released on DVD in 2005
Hi suzi and travis. It's been a while since you guys have reacted to the australian goat john farnham. so here is a live performance of the ac/dc hit long way to the top. People that have reacted to this have even said they love his version more than the original. Me personally i love both because they're two different styles. Enjoy guys. Love tanya....

We all know; "It's a long way to the shop if you want a sausage roll."
That's the only way I sing it in my head 😂😂
And all Sydneysiders used to sing "It's a long way to the Cross if you want to fuck a moll".
😂 absolutely!
There’s a few x rated versions lol
It’s how we build this city.
😂
John Farnham gives a masterclass in all his shows how to engage and entertain his fans and connect with people and have such an awesome experience being part of the show. Better back then no mobile phones to distract you and you could enjoy shows more and be in the moment not watching through a phone atmospheres were much better then as they had your full attention.
Thank you for reacting to John Farnham. I'm lucky enough to see him in concert many times. His concerts are amazing. A fantastic experience every single time. This particular concert with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra was just spectacular. Yes sutpendous !! We are so proud of him here in Australia.
To put it mildly.
Great reaction once again guys to the GOAT. The man is amazing and has recovered well and is now cancer free and the family has just celebrated the marriage of John's oldest son Robert.
Also Suzie, love the new look hair and makeup and you look gorgeous!!
ACADACA, as we call them, and Farnham are friends. So it's no surprise to us to see him do one of their songs.
STUPENDOUS! > Everything stupendous > John, band, orchestra, sound, performance, concert hall, song... > you two and your reactions! Rock on! Greetings from Germany, Rock'n'Ralf 🤘😎
Every time, John did this Bon Scott himself, Rose out of his grave and saluted.
This is so AWSOME!!!!!! Leave it to John Farnham to go far and above!!!!!!
And then, after THIS, he comes back to sing 'Help'. John Farnham has had more epic, stupendous, stand-out performances than I've had hot dinners.
Haha oh ye of little faith. This man just does do whatever he wants. The same concert with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra that your review of ‘Help’ came from, from memory. I just remember this as a celebration; a party.
He is the GOAT..PROUD TO BE AN AUSSIE.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
100%! 👍
Now that's how you put on a Rock Concert. The most versatile singer in the world, the ultimate showman, a totally top notch band, an excited and adoring audience and a symphony orchestra to top it all off.
GREAT reaction you guys. And don't you worry, there is plenty more up John Farnhams sleeve for you to discover.
❤❤❤❤❤
This is the best Live concert that covers all John Farnham’s song performances. He is wearing the white shirt, so you can identify any other clips of this concert by that.
It is the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra in 1989, more than 30 years ago.
It is a long way to the shop if ya wanna sausages roll.😂
I had that going through my head the whole time!
Said every Aussie of a certain age 😂😂
@@divinemadness7119And that age is every age
Firstly let me say "I love you Tanya" lol I can't stop ginning as I watch this and the entire band and orchestra just having a blast of fun. John is the ultimate entertainer ..... so blessed to have all this footage of his epic performances. Now I'm going to watch it again...lol
Haha. I went for a second round too. ❤❤
@@carolynh8866 We are so blessed to have so much footage of John's performances aren't we
It's even more awesome when you are in the audience!!!!
John is an incredible singer, performer, and musician.
I am so glad to be an Aussie and witnessed every concert this man performed. I am very proud of everything John achieved. Agree, epic and stupendous. Enjoyed your reaction ❤
Thank you , great reaction, Last song of the night but John, Band & Orchestra still giving their all, - same song but different concert, (Brisbane 88 Expo) John on guitar- this is serious Rock and Roll.... worth watching... again it was the last song, watch to the end for the short interview outside...
John is called the "G.O.A.T." for a reason. Best of all time. He's called "The Voice" for a reason.
YEEHA! They are all having sooooooo much fun! Smiling on this video can’t be helped. John and the musos sounding on top of their game. ❤🎼🎶🎵
I'm taken back to that night every time I see it. Being a part of that crowd was so awesome!
I'm green with envy !!
And the orchestra are having so much fun!!
Hi Susie and Travis I can’t remember how many John Farnham concerts I have been to over the years ,they were all amazing in their own way.
You certainly never went to one to sit down , it was all about the music dancing and having a good laugh . Always went home happy a sore throat from singing along and exhausted from dancing all night … bloody fantastic ❤
This is the second song in his second encore.😮
That's a John Farnham concert. Night after night he does that. Wonderful musicians and weren't they having a ball? Fabulous. Please bear in mind that was the END of the concert, too. John gives everything. We love him.
My first thought was oh no, then I started watching - omg everyone was feeling the meaning of this song, the commitment! EPIC! 👍🙋💕
BRING BACK REAL LIVE MUSIC, LIVE BANDS AND TRUE VOCALISTS PLEEEAAASSSEEE❤❤ John Farnham and his performances are the G.O.A.T.s 🎉🎉🎉😂😂😂
There's no such thing as "just another day in the John Farnham world". Every note he sings is a joy to listen to. Doesn't matter what the genre of the song is, he's always pure gold. And his backing singers and band - all long time personal friends - are also pure gold - it really is worth looking up the musical backgrounds of each and every one of them . Apr'24. UK. E ❤
There have been so many amazing live performances by various artists around the world, and while they may equal, not one of them beats this one. Every song on this tour was EPIC and yes, stupendous!!
Bloody oath!! 😊🇦🇺
Its a long way to the shop if you want a sausage roll.
My home town. John can do absolutely any genre!
Well, seriously, this would have to be one of the Greatest everrrrrrrr!
WOW ❤
And that my friends is how it’s done!! no other male singer other than Freddy Mercury himself knows how to entertain and own the crowd like John does he phenomenal in any genre. 🧐😊👍🇦🇺
That song was the final song of the concert after 2.5hrs of performing!
This is an AC/DC classic and JF makes it his own! Amazing!!! Love John, love bagpipes and the MSO - Aussie legends. So proud. 🇦🇺♥️🦘🐨
I was in the audience that night one of the greatest concerts I have seen ...and I have seen my fair share and more..Farnham Rocks. Check out his covers of Black Dog and We will Rock You..they are 1st class..
And Black Dog was done as a soundcheck from memory! Correct me if I’m wrong but, regardless…It was awesome! 👍🏼👍🏼
Corrected Last song of the concert .!! Every person on their feet. The place was literally moving 🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
This was actually the LAST song of the night, the fourth and last encore song.
Last song
It was spectacular watched many times
Farnham takes the stage, Elvis walks off with his tail between his legs and says I can't top that.
😅😅👌
It was one of his best concerts ever!
And I was 8 when I started loving on JF I've see every concert live
W3 still love you John❤
This was insane I went to the Classic Jack Tour live in Melbourne. John Farnham is one hell of an entertainer we bloody love him. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
A fantastic job done to a brilliant song.
The backup singer who had the "great look" is Lisa Edwards and you have reacted to her and John doing "Lifted Up by Angels" as a duet. His other two long-time backup singers do a great version of "Amazing Grace" with him.
It’s a long way to the shop if you want a sausage roll
This is so fun. John Farnham, with the best, and most pure voice, singing his mates rough 0:29 song , this cannot be more Australian
Yes our John can do anything you should hear him do Led Zeppelin's 'Black Dog' only audio i'm afraid as it was only done as a sound check, fortunately the Sound Tech recorded it, it is Awesome!
My favorite all time singers.
Fantastic Review . I’ve watched this so many times.
Aussies sing - ‘It’s a long way to the top if you want a sausage roll’ lol.
Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and Conductor Dobbs Franks had a ball. Great to see a symphony orchestra having so much fun😊
we always used to sing 'it's a long way to the shop if you want a sausage roll'
@@bonnielee78
What , you don’t anymore? lol 😊
@@bernadettelanders7306 of course I still do lol
@@bonnielee78
😂👍
Its a great live experience. He doesn't normally tour with an orchestra, but for that filmed performance he reworked some of his arrangements. I personally loved the studio version with his usual rock band -but all versions of this song have o bring high energy regardless.
Umm I think you find that it was David Hirschfelder that arranged the music etc for the Orchestra.
@@aussiekat6379 Yes, absolutely, I merat John's overall guiding hand
John can sing anything 🎉❤
Fun fact john Farnham sang with queen & he rocked it.
I remember watching this when it was on the telly!! 😜 And John sang HELP! by The Beatles! AMAZING!! 😍
His band and the Melbourne symphony orchestra .
You should watch John Fareham and Tom Jones singing, "It's a long way to the top."...its stupendously epic!
We adore our amazing JF here in Oz, bloody fantastic,
Magic 🤗
My daughter is twenty three
She used this as her high school quote when she graduated
Definitely stupendous.
Yep Travis and Susie, Aussies love their music, even orchestral gigsters... so much to choose from. Yummy! Cheers from Sydney, AU. P.S. and that was after 2.5 hours on stage, a nice little encore.
😅😅😅Aussies know how to have a fun time👍👍👍
Not only AC/DC but 'Black Dog' as well.
FYI the woman he bends down to kiss is his wife Jillian. As of 2024 they have been married for 51 years ❤❤
John Farnham = PARTY 🎉
Many, many thanks to Tanya! Have been hoping some one else would react to this banger! Farnham and the guys giving their all. Right up there with the AC DC version!
This was apparently towards the end of a 3hr concert!
Bloody brilliant
Thanks for this, it never fails to make me smile and I love your work
Another song worth listening to is John's rendition of Led Zep's Black Dog. It will not disappoint. It was recorded by his sound engineer during a Sound Check. Awesome
That's what you call a standing novation 😂😂😂😂😊👍🇭🇲🦘😆😆😆😆😆😆😆👍great reaction again guys I asked you about 8 months to check this vid out but you see it now worth the watch for sure. Keep up the great reaction 👍😊🇭🇲🦘
Just epic, eh? Best encore for the best live performance in the history of music, anywhere, ever.
yeah top tier perfrmance frm everyone, , place was buzn, johns vocals r so versatile, wasnt sure bout vis a few yrs ago n ven heard it n rite away i said yes!
Wow he sounds good 👍😎👌🎤🎸
Does a ripper version of Black Dog/Led Zep as well!!!
Good to see you back with some epic John ❤
Because of John's 1st chart hit "Sadie the cleaning lady ", American record labels thought and said "This guy can't be a real singer, we're not going to give him the time of day" And that is why America did not get to hear John
Out of respect for Bon Scott, he doesn't use bagpipes in this song, hence the keyboard, even though they had a piper at the concert for Your the Voice song. I love his respect for Bon. ❤❤
He can even sing opera. Very versatile.
I love AC/DC but this is so much better. John is the greatest male vocalist of all time, he can sing anything, any genre and has sung in most genres. This was I think the 3rd encore after a 21/2 hour concert and everyone still has so much energy, especially John and everyone, including the orchestra conductor is having an absolute ball.
as a aussie to hear of john singing this song is chalk and cheese,to bon singing ,,but a aussie heart singing ,, bring it on
Now you need to listern to his led zeppelin black dog cover
You'll only get audio as warm up song for him
Cheers guys 🦘🇦🇺👍
They’ve done that
Hey
I just saw your reaction to Tina singing Led Zeppelin.
That song was done by John is band as well.
Wow !
If only he and Tina sung together it would've been awesome.
I know they know each other very well.
Great version..2 artists to look at L.A.B and Stan Walker 's theme song from the movie Origin..
Yes I'm of "advanced years" but I'd still wear David's jacket. Lisa really went all in as well.
JF is the goat. You guys need to listen to his back catalogue. Some would argue the best voice ever to come out of the land down under. Jimmy Barnes a very close second
Great rendition of an ACDC classic sung by Bon Scott. The band does not sing this anymore in honour of Bon.
Bon is irreplaceable! 😢
@@jenniferharrison8915 Saw AC/DC (with Bon) play at my high school (Frankston) hall....blown away
Have the DVD for this Concert. It’s the best and JF is the best. ❤❤❤
John did this with tom honest, was awesome too
Blow your mind with early Jimmy Barnes Cold Chisel "wild thing" like you've never seen before. LIVE
Every single time I hear any song from this set, I cry. Even to this. There’s so much joy and connection in the venue. The pride we feel as Australians is so pure when it comes to our man John! ❤
P.s. love you guys and your wholehearted reactions. 🤘
I have been to many Farnsie concerts including this one with the Melb Symphony Orch, not necessarily the one that was video recorded.
John Farnham while a great artist on record, CD or whatever is far better as a live performer.
What you heard with Long Way To The Top was done after a 2 or 3 hour long concert and everyone still had the same energy as they had at the beginning.
As far as Australia goes, Farnsie was the Swiftie of the 80's and 90's and to some extent, still is.
If you want to see John Farnham's range, check out The Main Event with Olivia Newton-John and Anthony Warlow, it's on the same level as his concert with the MSO.
I worked at a community radio station with the minister that officiated at John and Jill's wedding, he sent a heart felt letter to us on the ministers passing.
I'm very sure that Sir Bon Scott would of lov'n this.
Queen asked him to join them after Freddie died but he said no. There is a release of him and Queen doing "we will rock you" that is rather good. You can also find him singing with Tom Jones, Ray Charles and Celine Dion
I've seen them all, unfortunately Celine Dion for all her talent, was just not up to John's level, she did not have the strength for You're The Voice.
My friends... The Warning and Michael Starr LIVE/ Highway to Hell please
John is
the GOAT
Suzi Swing ❤
Try seeing him live❤❤❤
Check out playing to win from the same concert another high energy song
You missed "the kiss" at 3.15
Susie spotted it
Another great version is John with Tom Jones several years later.
Try the Tom Jones and John Farnham version
Front man of the Little River Band for a while too
