    As Bruce Lee said, "Be like water my friend." It is all about adapting to new methodologies and philosophies. One has to think beyond styles. In the end, the person is more important not the style. We all must learn to embrace the Void.

    Of course I'm going to be guided by 4 videos where things went well for the Wing Chun guy and all the times he made a fool of himself? In addition to the fact that these people generally know other styles and have even practiced more than one martial art, no one practices only 1 martial art, it is very rare and also fighting is learned with experience, not with a style.

      Martial arts is a broad term for different styles of fighting techniques. Martial arts is used in the English speaking world while “Kung Fu” is used by the Cantonese Chinese as it is the Cantonese pinyin of 「功夫」. Karate; Aikido, etc are the Japanese martial arts while taekwondo; Hopkindo, etc are the Korean martial arts. For the Chinese martial arts or Kung Fu as called by the Cantonese 功夫,there are too many types.

    In the ring, Wing Chun can't exactly use all their techniques because they can be lethal. It is usually beat out by martial arts like boxing or other mma fighting styles in the ring. In street fights though, I think Wing Chun is one of the best styles out there, along side Krav Magraw and Coperiea

      @SlayingSin 13 дней назад +1

      @@TheAnsonysc I'm no professional. I haven't trained or anything for about 7 or 8 years. That said, I still have some knowledge about martial arts, so I know about how lethal Wing Chun could be in a ring setting if they were allowed to use all their techniques. Same can be said for most martial arts in MMA, well aside from maybe boxing and kick boxing since those were designed specifically for the ring, not street fighting/warfare.
      Boxing and kick boxing have a lot of potential for one hit K.O.s, so does Muy Tai, Tae Kwon Do, and Karate.
      One of my uncles knew jujutsu, kendo, and was a black belt in Karate, so I grew up learning bits and pieces from him. My other uncles knew many other kinds of martial arts, namely MMA kick boxing, Judo, and Tae Kwon Do. I ended up learning Muy Tai and Wing Chun when I was much younger, by watching and closely studying the movements of martial arts masters in videos on RUclips or fighting anime, then I would go to the gym to work out and practice the fighting styles in my back yard or while I was taking showers. This was around the time my dream was to be the world's strongest martial artist, but that dream passed once I grew up a bit and began getting more interested in video games and women.

    I feel like, even just watching these examples, for Wing Chun to beat karate, the kung fu practitioner needs to close the distance and get inside. The closer you are, the more deadly the Wing Chun. I am a Hung Gar practitioner and the same method applies. Always be going forwards and force your opponent back. Keep pushing them back until their back is against the wall and he/she has nowhere else to retreat to or until your opponent is down on the ground for good.
    I also agree that many Wing Chun moves are deadly and can't be used in a ring or officiated fight. Because they teach you to pulverize your opponent, hit the groin, break arms, break legs, do not allow any tap outs, etc. So yes, the Wing Chun practitioner is handicapped in MMA.
    We also consider it dishonorable to use martial arts for competition or money. Unless you are teaching it or defending yourself.

      Yep real martial arts used to kill, While martial arts focuss on damage, boxing focuss on stamina and durability. If they allow martial arts people open their glove, the real match is worth to see.

      Action is better than words! Try it by yourself to prove it. To see whether you are the “Gold Mountain Claw” in the 1st episode of Ip Man or not. Whether a style work or not is not the style but the person. The person who masters the skills and the person he met.

      Martial arts rarelly come into play outside of sports scenarios though, in a way they all have a bit of fantasy in them.
      I have been in a bunch of fights when I was younger, and it wasn't not a martial art that helped me at all.
      It was sticks, stones and anything else I could grab from the ground or was carrying.

      @@lainhikaru5657 true, but some arts really do help in street fight scenario. If you are 1v1 and trained in jiu-jitsu then practically untrained opponent has no chance. Extremely useful is boxing training, you can knock out with one punch even when fighting couple opponents, if they are not trained, that is. Kyokushin and Tai-boxing also make you very tough and give you power to even brake bones of some opponents. Generally any training gives you edge over untrained.
