One of the big differences between Hbox and Bassmage, and why I think Bass has better results, is because he isn’t nearly as married to rest kills as H is. H trades stocks a lot more often than necessary going for rest - or missing them - while Bass seems to find other ways to get kills that don’t involve that at all. This match up didn’t have a single sing or rest! Edit: two sing to ledge grabs but didn’t turn into anything. Point still stands

He’s a well known player who is great at melee, good at ultimate but still learning and clearly getting better monthly. I was trying to say I think the difference in how much less good rest/sing is in Ultimate might be partly to blame because he is so rest/sing heavy when he doesn’t have to be. I think they're both two extremes, and the optimal is somewhere in the middle. Hbox goes for so many rests, he can win sets without getting as good at the character as a whole as Bassmage, but they're also so inconsistent he can't ever get reliable results with puff. Bassmage is great at puff's normal gameplay, so he's reliably able to perform much better than Hbox, but the fact that he never goes for rests means he isn't making use of puff's strongest kill move, meaning he's forced to outplay his opponent several more times per stock than Hbox is. Bassmage can't really steal wins by killing them at 30 like Hbox can. In my opinion, Bassmage should probably incorporate rest into his playstyle. Not to the extreme that Hbox does, but on occasion. If nothing else, forcing the opponent to respect it and be constantly in fear of suddenly dying out of nowhere is very valuable.

I was invested in pretty much every player in these twos' group, and I didn't want either of them to go out before bracket. Good shit to BassMage though. Dude played out of his mind this weekend.
puff still struggles a lot against someone who’s fast and ranged, falco just being fast with similar range as puff made it kinda hard to defend puff’s approach imo, otherwise puff would not usually approach this much
yep. Could tell from the first stock. People need to realize that puff is 100% a reactive character. She has no good options for getting in. If tilde had played more defensive, out of sheild, lasers, etc... he would have had a much better chance.
Came here to see how tf Falco is suppose to beat Puff(I play Falco and have struggled to beat them for years). And this confirms exactly what I believed. This is one of Falco's worst matchups. Falco has nearly non-existent disjoints so Puff just beats him out when they both throw out a move. His ground and aerial speed is not good enough to not get outpaced by her. Being off stage against her is a death sentence. Even trying to edgeguard her is extreme high risk with moderate reward. Falco has bad neutral approaching options and Jigglypuff can just force him to approach and punish every possible option he has for doing so by simply pancaking and reacting. And to top it all off just being short in general is a major advantage when fighting Falco since his grounded options are mostly useless and have next to no range. God awful matchup.
