This is honestly the best solution for maintaining OEM capabilities without having to stick with archaic technology. I called Krank It Up Car Audio & Electronics out of Massachusetts two weeks ago and I finally got the wiring piece to keep the stock navigation. Now I just need to wait on the Metra parts and a Sony XAV-AX100 to finally have proper bluetooth and outstanding audio. Thank you so much for making this video!
I totally agree! Im glad your going for it! ITS AWESOME. The factory unit and old technology does not do this car justice. Its such a wonderful car, so worth the efforts to do this upgrade!
WOW I never so many people dislike this setup. I think 2 double din displays are dope! It gives the dash a cool cockpit look. Even the new infiniti's have this look
I currently have a TL Type S with JL C5 components up front alpine Type R components in the rear 1 10" JLw6 sub all powerd by an Alpine pd-x v9 5 channel connected to the factory system. Would you recommend the pioneer head unit you have or the Alpine Alpine INE-W977HD? Sound quality is my biggest concern.
Hello! Okay so first, nice set up in your car! You have done a great job with what you have, now the Alpine your talking about is multiple steps above what I have. I dont have built in Navi with my stereo, nor do I have Apple Car Play along with a pile of other features that you get with the Alpine! If you can afford it, do the Alpine, just realize you'll have dual navigation going with Factory and Aftermarket. I went with the Pioneer unit for a couple of reasons... PRICE...it was like $350 or so? and i didnt want the dual navigation thing going on! I mean why pay for it right? Does Alpine do a unit a step down that gives you all the goodies minus the built in navi? Pioneer had a model up from mine for around $500 that had the Apple Car Play etc. As far as sound quality, they have to be close, with you and i both doing aftermarket amps, what is the head unit doing right? Its the digital access point and thats about it really? So I think the Alpine might be overkill? As crazy as that sounds!! I hope I am making sense!!!
Hell yeah. I'm definitely doing that to mine here soon. I was afraid of the integration between the gps and an aftermarket stereo so that's why I haven't done it yet. But you saved my life with this video. Now I can finally have Bluetooth again in my car. Was not going to pay Acura $400 for HFL module that they knew was bad.
I am so glad i could help. It literally took me like a month or so to finally track down the harness to do it. If you are over the need for it to be "stock" looking then i don't see how you don't do it right!?
Yo so I installed the pioneer avh4800 to my 07 Acura TL but I lost access to the factory nav... if I buy the $39 nav harness from krankitup will it also give me back access to my backup cam? Thanks
Man thanks I was getting frustrated with a big screen above my radio that I couldn't do anything with. I called the folks at crankitup got the part installed it and it's working. Solid info bro thanks again
Hey there! I am glad it worked out for you. So worth the effort right!? It took me like a MONTH to track them down, i am SUPER GLAD to share!! Take care man!
When you unplug the battery do you need to enter the access code still? Not sure if what happens when you replace the EOM stereo with a aftermarket one.
Hello, I dont believe so. I dont remember my installer saying he had to. That code is to unlock the radio which would no longer apply after you switch to the aftermarket radio!
Is the steering controls for the double din working off of the same crank it up audio harness or that is a different harness I have to get if I want my controls to work with my double din??
No sir! Its a different module. I think it ran me about $35 - $40 for it. I believe he used the Metra Brand and I believe it was ASWC-1, but I would verify from where you purchase before hand! I am sure Crankitup carries it though!!
Oh yes it is very nice! Volume controls as well as skip to next song (i use pandora a lot) etc! I think the mute works too...I honestly havent tried it! If your buying th harness from Krank it, just ask for Josh, he wont do you wrong. Good guys! If you were close to me here in Ohio I would send you to my dude George...another good guy! And you are going to be one happy camper! I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! My freaking daughter keeps taking my car now just because of the tunes!!
Do you have any idea how they separated the Nav unit from the CD Drive/radio unit? Did they just take it off the brackets and it comes right off? I’m trying sorry to do this this week so if you have any info that’d be awesome. Thanks!
I apologize for not responding sooner! Yes that is correct, it is actually two units, like an upper and lower half!! There are videos out there of guys doing installs, when you see those if it is not a nav version of an install, the stereo still seprates the same way from the AC/Heating controls on the non navi unit. You will see what I mean.
hey there, sorry for the delayed response. In the wiring kit plus dash kit like $75... In my gear like 2k but that is dependent on what you buy and what your willing to spend! My front stage speakers are Rainbows and they are like $900 - $1k. I paid someone to put it all in for me and that was $500 with tax!
I’m buying an 07 TL-S and want to put my own unit in there but keep the top screen working. What is everything I need to order? Do I just order kit 2 from krankitup or do I need to order kit 2 and the $39 wiring kit? Is there a way to call them to get a better deal or is that it? $208 is pretty expensive
Hey Zay! Okay so no, you only need #2 to have EVERYTHING you need to do the install. Look you really only need the $39 wire to keep Nav. You can buy your trim mounting kit from anywhere (I think its Metra that makes it) and its your choice if you want the steering wheel controls to woek as well. If you want it all in one purchase then #2 is definitely all you need!! As an FYI i did NOT retain the factory Subwoofer either, I went aftermarket...(Thank goodness). As far as contacting them I think their phone number is listed on the site, thats how I called them originally to get them to sell me the wire to keep navi in the first place! Let me know if you need anything else and you are going to LOVE your TL!!!
mj4gurus thank you for the fast response! I just wanna have the Navi on top working, with my own unit and maybe steering controls. Metra kit I'm purchasing, but what about the wiring harness and the steering wheel module? Really don't wanna go the #2 kit route
No problem at all! So you need the $39 wire to make the navi work with aftermarket. You'll have another 30 or so for the steering wheel control and finally you will need a wiring harness to go from factory wiring to aftermarket. So figure another 20-30? I hope it helps!!! :-)
Oh man sorry for the late response. I installed a new head unit that did not have XM but I do stream bluetooth from my phone using the app. You can go either way. I find the streaming better as 1 account can be used in multile vehicles that support bluetooth streaming audio!
Hey bro thanks for the info, I think you were talking about me lol I did do an install back in the early 2016, and I just picked up another 07TL and I’m upgrading the radio, I couldn’t find the kit on eBay anymore but luckily came across your vid and already order the kit I’m installing an app radio on the tl will post a video showing how to do it if anyone wants to peak through my channel. Thanks man that S looks clean! Awesome cars
Hey yo man! YES it was your video bro! So when you hold up the instructions for a minute in your video i peeped the top corner where it said Foztech. So I searched Foztech and found that it was his Ebay user handle. I then searched him on Ebay and tracked him back to Krankitup!! So YES you are the man that helped me find those guys to find that kit!!!! And YES to any who read this, yungmexican has a video on the install itself, I had someone else do it so great way to see the details of the install itself. Thank you Yungmexican! Without your video from a couple of years ago I would have never gotten as far as i did!!!!
For sure bro no problem! Thankyou for taking the time to search for these guys I found another kit for like 30 bucks on eBay but it's not the right one rather do it the right way with this kit! And I'll post a video as soon as am done with this new install!
Jah Jefe yes bro if you don't have the Navi u can go with this kit since you don't need the resistor for the screen to work m.ebay.com/itm/2004-2008-ACURA-TL-DOUBLE-DIN-DASH-KIT-AND-SUB-WOOFER-AMPLIFIER-HARNESS/182612451657?fits=Make%3AAcura%7CModel%3ATL&hash=item2a848ce149%3Ag%3AzUYAAOSwmwtaL2OD
You would have to do many modifications to take a double din and fit it in that space which is quite a bit larger. Your best bet would be to google an ipad in that space or an android tablet like Samsungs. I have seen that mod done before, its kinda slick, but you wont get the stereo functionality. That was the key goal, upgrade tech for great bluetooth and audio while keeping that big screen working...that big screen still carries the car alerts for mechanical issues etc.
Hello! 7" Pioneer. Dash kit is sold by Metra so you can order online or any local stereo shop can get it. If you have factory navi you will want to get your wiring harness from krankitup audio as noted in the other posts on here! You will need to call them directly!!
Thank you! I honestly dont know? I mean I think it would work, I upgraded to my own amp and speakers. I can tell you I kept the back speakers but I dont want to steer you wrong. And sorry for the delayed response!
Hey there! If you mean to keep the navi working then you want the harness that Krank It Up Car Audio & Electronics sells. I am thrilled to say they now have it available again online! AND they have different kits to do it all! THAT IS AWESOME!! Here is their link...krankitup.com/acura-tl-kit/. Note they have 3 different options, if you just need the wiring for Nav to work it looks like they are selling it for $39.00. Youll see on their website the options, its self explanatory! Take care!!
Hello! My installer used the METRA AXXESS ASWC-1 I do believe. I know for SURE it was made by Metra. As far as how it installs, I have NO CLUE. I can tell you that it works flawlessly!
hey i went to the krank it up website and it said that they are out of stock and it has said that for about 2 months now do u know personaly if they still sell the kits
Airam, you have to call, I would recommend you ask for Josh. They havent had it listed on their website now for more than a year. He quit posting it on there some time ago. he didnt think he would sell many after Metra started selling the dash kit itself. Definitley CALL the shop and ask for Josh.
My opinion, waste of money to just gain bluetooth. If your looking for bluetooth just buy a bluetooth fm transmitter. Or buy a tesla style radio and get modern technology along with it.
AWESOME tutorial! I lucked up and purchased a 08 type s auto with only, (Drumroll) 56,000 miles in Feb.2019. I know RIGHT! Ive done subtle upgrades so far. Crossdrilled/slotted rotors, steel brake lines, intake, headers, and tsudo exhaust, all led lighting inside/out. Next is THIS. Its garage kept and I have a 04 pathfinder for my daily. I plan to resale it in about maybe 2-3years. So, yeah.
Excellent! Nice find!! Your gonna love this car. Remember timing chain at 100k as well as the other maint. items as described by Acura. Also watch out for the bluetooth module to fail on you. It is well documented online. This upgrade will eliminate most of that concern! ENJOY!!
Hey Fredy sorry for the delayed response. I honestly do not know, I haven't tried to be honest. Im guessing the latest disks in the multi player in the trunk. then use the nav screen to update?
and also do he still sell the kit on ebay the wiring cause i really need it for my double din conversion whats his ebay seller name or bow could i get in touch with him
Paul, I do not have them, the installer had them with him and I assume threw them away when he was all done! But, I HIGHLY recommend you purchase them from Josh at Krankitup, he deserves the creds!!
Just got my acura this past weekend and considering doing this. Gotta modernize it's connection capabilities. My only question is this does still lose the center channel correct?
David, yes sir you will loose your center channel... SO WORTH IT... in my opinion of course. So you cant do voice command of nav...and uh... I am sure I am missing something else, BUT... IMO anything aftermarket will rock over the factory stuff of early 2000's...
I would so recommend doing it. Once you have aftermarket in place your ability to grow the system are much better options then staying with factory. My thoughts...i have owned the car for about 6 mos. I love it. I owe nothing on it, paid 7k for it and it had 130k miles. Lets say i drive it for 3-4 yrs. It will end up with like 200k miles or so when i am done. I sell it privately for 1500-2k, maybe a little more considering it is one of those cult model cars being a Type S. Regardless, its not like I am hurting the resale value of the car by going aftermarket! I get to enjoy rocking out in a 10 yr old kinda luxury sports car! This car was $38k in 07! Its paid for, I can mess around and enjoy you know!?
Thanks bro we're based on in Philadelphia rebirth audio and performance I'm a big Metro dealer we carry the dash kit. steering wheel module. Even the harness.only thing you lose the function of using your GPS reason being the harness doesn't have the RCA's to keep the GPS from functioning biggest problem I had with the TLs couldn't get the navigation to work we stopped doing radio installs too many people complain about the navigation not working didn't want to deal with the hassle this just fix my problem thanks for the video bro I just open a account with them order 50 harnesses adapted RCA's 🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑😏👌
Oh hey man! That is awesome! Im so glad you found this post then. That was the main reason I posted. I wanted to help the community wh love their TL's! With you all being installers you will no longer have issues with your clients! You might also want to go to Acurazine.com and promote the fact that your shop can now do these installs! Get you some business brotha!!
Do you get any buzzing? I just got a radio installed 2 days ago and noticed that my nav didn't work, hence why I landed on this video and I have a prominent buzzing that follows my rpm which is extremely annoying. Grounding issue you think?
No sir none at all. I would say yes, just from my years of having systems installed. Or not a clean power line out to the battery, you know one with a in line fuse etc. I would pay the 30-40 and get a complete install kit if your doing it yourself.
Well, you can do aftermarket as we have been discussing here...you can also use the AUX jack in the armrest storage bin and do bluetooth module. Thats what I started with...it works BUT...love the aftermarket stuff!!
You can buy a $30 bluetooth module that plugs in to the auxiliary jack in the armrest and stream from a source such as a phone etc. That's what I originally started with.
Bro who makes it is it beat Sonic is a metra who makes it you need to put a link down there's no such thing as crankitup besides a car audio store that I looked up they told me they don't sell nothing like that
Here is their website. krankitup.com/ If you went here you were at the correct store, and ask for Josh. They used to sell them straight off their website, but eventually quit doing it. You will see the link at the top of their site but if you click they show sold out...ANYWAYS, I called and spoke with Josh. I think he is one of the owners? Anyways, they took care of me no issue. Also note in prior comments someone ordered like 50 kits from them to resell in Philly...
Its just a mater of opinion. I didn't buy the car because of it not being aftermarket stereo friendly. The car is just an amazing car. My opinion was the cassette player with the BIG stereo knobs was an eye sore. I LOVE the aftermarket stereo and I LOVE the sound I now get in the car I LOVE! So far, the people who have been in my car really like the look and love the sound! But I do appreciate your opinion Evan! My goal was to give everyone out there who wants to do this upgrade, the info they need to do it! I knew not everyone would be a fan and that's okay!! Happy Holidays to all!!
mj4gurus Have you thought about getting custom aluminum garnishes that don't have the half circles in them? That's about the only thing keeping me from going with an aftermarket head unit.
Hi Evan! Honestly, no. I get what your saying, it definitely COULD look a lot better if that could be done. I looked at it like this...My factory bluetooth module was bad. $250-$300 to replace (my new head unit was $300!). And having said that I would never be able to stream my audio via factory bluetooth. Yes, I did add a bluetooth module to the Aux input. That worked ok...but just not what i wanted to acheive for ease etc. So I guess what i am driving at is i will take the AWESOME sound i now get, plus all of the benefits of current model stereo with the options I now have outweigh the lack of a factory finish look to the install. You know the good vs. the bad!
Dude you're the fucking man
Hey I hope this is useful bro!!
Would this work for an 09?
Was the installation done by you or did you bring it to a shop? Wanted to know the difficulty of this before I attempt it
Hello! I definitely DID NOT do the install! I took it in to my local shop. I wanted it to be perfect!
What’s the name of the wiring kit pls
Not sure if I'll get a answer since this a old post but can that wire be installed after the stereo is in or do you need it behind the stereo?
Hello, Do you have a video of how you wire the harness in which you got from Crank it up Audio?
WOW I never so many people dislike this setup. I think 2 double din displays are dope! It gives the dash a cool cockpit look. Even the new infiniti's have this look
I totally agree! Acura TLX is also double din display. I LOVE IT! Plus the sound is beyond awesome!!! Thanks for checking it out man!!
AGREE! Yes Infiniti is doing it as well as the TLX by Acura...go figure!!
Hey man do you have the link for the part? Because, I couldn’t find it
I currently have a TL Type S with JL C5 components up front alpine Type R components in the rear 1 10" JLw6 sub all powerd by an Alpine pd-x v9 5 channel connected to the factory system. I am so glad i could help. It literally took me like a month or so to finally track down the harness to do it. If you are over the need for it to be "stock" looking then i don't see how you don't do it right!?
Is there any way to keep the center speaker to work with the double din that you may know ?
I do not know of a way unless you purchase the backend supporting equipment (IE Stereo and amp etc) Thanks!
I have exact set up.. but nav screen won't work. I do have Krank it up wiring kit too. Any suggestions?
I would verify the wiring and worse case call Krank it up to verify...
Yo so I installed the pioneer avh4800 to my 07 Acura TL but I lost access to the factory nav... if I buy the $39 nav harness from krankitup will it also give me back access to my backup cam? Thanks
Hey sorry for the delayed response. Yes it will definitely bring that back for you!
mj4gurus thank u for the response, I had purchased the harness after losing my navigation system and everything works just fine!
Man thanks I was getting frustrated with a big screen above my radio that I couldn't do anything with. I called the folks at crankitup got the part installed it and it's working. Solid info bro thanks again

Really appreciate your time to answer me, thanks a lot, hope my car looks like yours.
Oh no problem at all! and i hope your car looks the way YOU want it too! Im sure it will be kick a$$! I mean come on, TL's by nature look great!!
Does your navigation have sound with the harness
No it does not! Im good with it just because of such a major upgrade in sound and bluetooth etc! Easy trade off for me!
I am sure Crankitup carries it though!!
mj4gurus ok because I would love for my steering controls to be able to work with my double din like yours

Thanks Brotha!
How do I get my factory nav to work? The touch screen feature is not working anymore
I have 2006 tl I want to do the same thing to it , where can I get that modual to keep my navigation screen to work and have a double dim?
Did u lose ur back up camera?
No I sure didnt! Back up camera works just fine!
mj4gurus Thanks I've been wanting to keep my 08 type S 6spd stock but this looks tempting

I’m doing the install right now and I cannot get the navigation to work
Dante, I have no idea, that is why i ordered the kit from Krankitup. I do believe others have commented on it on the post i put out on Acurazine.com

Any kits for an 09 TL?
Nice clean car. What kind are the window visors
Thank you very much! They are HIC USA! Here is the link... www.hicusastore.com/ $99 and the look about like factory...love em!!!
My 05 is in pristine condition still .. very reliable cars interior still on fleeeeeek too lol
Yes these are awesome cars! That is why they retain their value even after 150k miles and 12 years later!
Can you just replace the navigation screen with, for example, a pioneer radio instead. So there's only 1 screen. I don't mind not having navigation
You would have to do many modifications to take a double din and fit it in that space which is quite a bit larger. Your best bet would be to google an ipad in that space or an android tablet like Samsungs. I have seen that mod done before, its kinda slick, but you wont get the stereo functionality. Hey was the kit plug and play or did you have to cut into the factory harness ?
So what kind and size aftermarket radio is that and where can I find everything for it also ?
Hello!

I need the wiring piece for the gps to work, what do i look under as ?

Thank you already got it 👍
What’s the kit called .!!
Need it for my 07 tl s type
Hello! Here is the link!! krankitup.com/acura-tl-kit/
There are options there for you to choose from. You will love it!
@@mj4gurus Thank you! :)
How did you make the steering wheel controls to work? I bought a iDataLink Maestro SW and don't know where to begin.
Quick question brother when u rewired ur navigation system, the lights on ur heat controls come on too or did you loose that?
Does the center dash speaker still work when using the factory navigation with this set up?
Hello, no you lose the center speaker along with the ability to voice navigate. For me it was no big deal!!
My opinion, waste of money to just gain bluetooth. If your looking for bluetooth just buy a bluetooth fm transmitter. Or buy a tesla style radio and get modern technology along with it.
Does this apply to tsx with navi too?? I have a 04 tsx with navi and have a double din radio i wanna install
following
ENJOY!!
the clock keeps working well
Yes it does! It works fine!
I wish you would've put the link for the harness that keeps the factory nav in the description but good video none the less
dandaddavi krankitup.com/acura-tl-kit/buy.html
Hey there, love the video, was wondering, how did you get both screens working? I got the pioneer deck working but the OEM one is not. Thank you!
Yo how do I keep the Navi updated?
Hey Fredy sorry for the delayed response. I honestly do not know, I haven't tried to be honest. Im guessing the latest disks in the multi player in the trunk. then use the nav screen to update?
Do you have his contact info?
Sorry for the late response...who's contact info
mj4gurus I ended up ordering it from Krankitup. Thanks
The Navi retention harness
@@Aero_HER_Dynamic Okay perfect! I am really sorry for the delay!
mj4gurus No problem. A lil research got it done😁
Did you have some static noise with the speakers with this harness?
Hello! No NONE! Very clean no noise at all.
and also do he still sell the kit on ebay the wiring cause i really need it for my double din conversion whats his ebay seller name or bow could i get in touch with him
Airam Chavez no eBay you have to go to the website on the description of this video
Can i get a copy for those instructions to please
Paul, I do not have them, the installer had them with him and I assume threw them away when he was all done! But, I HIGHLY recommend you purchase them from Josh at Krankitup, he deserves the creds!!
I love you man!! Thank you so much for this!!
Im jealous my navigation is stuck on please check your disc even after replacing the disc with new one still stuck...
Remove the DVD Ron in the trunk, take the cover off and clean the laser reader with a qtip. Mine was messed up too but it now works after cleaning
I think it might be dark at night if you can’t see the heat controls
My factory stereo in my TL-S does not eject a CD. I might just have to do this.
I would highly recommend...aftermarket will walk all over the factory system... krankitup.com/acura-tl-kit/
Great vid, thanks for uploading it.
Absolutely! You are welcome!
ALSO, put your website or Facebook or whatever on here! Steer some business your way!
Junie Ruiz mmm
Can you put the website on here I need the harness for my nav to work
Acuratlkit.com
Im in Ohio also bud Im looking for this exact car .I got $4500 cash if you look to sell it
Sell u my type s
I forgot to thank my audio guy George from www.mobilexperts.co/
Do you get any buzzing? I just got a radio installed 2 days ago and noticed that my nav didn't work, hence why I landed on this video and I have a prominent buzzing that follows my rpm which is extremely annoying. Grounding issue you think?
PiterStreak i just did a aftermarket hu and i get the same buzzing only when the car is on tho. Not in acc position
No sir none at all. I would say yes, just from my years of having systems installed. Or not a clean power line out to the battery, you know one with a in line fuse etc. I would pay the 30-40 and get a complete install kit if your doing it yourself.
I have a question i have a 2004 acura tl and the cd is not working and the cassette is horrible is there another way to put music on
Well, you can do aftermarket as we have been discussing here...you can also use the AUX jack in the armrest storage bin and do bluetooth module. Thats what I started with...it works BUT...love the aftermarket stuff!!
You can buy a $30 bluetooth module that plugs in to the auxiliary jack in the armrest and stream from a source such as a phone etc. That's what I originally started with.
Ok cool no prob I'll reach out to him
Bro who makes it is it beat Sonic is a metra who makes it you need to put a link down there's no such thing as crankitup besides a car audio store that I looked up they told me they don't sell nothing like that
Here is their website. krankitup.com/ If you went here you were at the correct store, and ask for Josh. They used to sell them straight off their website, but eventually quit doing it. You will see the link at the top of their site but if you click they show sold out...ANYWAYS, I called and spoke with Josh. I think he is one of the owners? Anyways, they took care of me no issue. Also note in prior comments someone ordered like 50 kits from them to resell in Philly...
krankitup.com/acura-tl-kit/ I would not lie... go HERE! use a K instead of a C... Best to you! Enjoy!
Yes they do Krank it up in Medford, Massachusetts
This just seems like such an eye sore to me. Not the best car for people that want an aftermarket system.
You know the good vs. the bad!
What color wires did u tap the blue and red wire in for navigation
