I no longer try to carry weak hives through I pinch queen..but if I wanted to it'd be Styrofoam over head and dbl screen board and wintered over another colony,but last few years I've counted losses in fall and it's been much better for me..but if someone only has a couple hives you gotta try and get em through and I don't believe a small colony needs ventilation usually if in a good spot,but they need fed up in time to cap it you sure don't want a small hive working themselves into early grave from processing sugar syrup

Yes quite wright, this is the only weaker hive we have this year thankfully, thanks for your input. 🐝
@@berintanbees it happens..I had several come up queenless late,I think last round was poor mated and robbers sensed it..
