I really enjoyed Mortal Shell. The hardening mechanic gave it a different feel. My only complaint would be that the bosses were too easy. I think they succeeded in differentiating their game from From soft. It's worth checking it out.
Mortal shell is great but on a much smaller scale. Lies of P is easily the best non Fromsoft Soulslike. It needs a few Quality of life updates, but it’s nearly a 10/10. Neowiz is going to compete with Fromsoft in the future is they do what I think what they are going to do.. that ending man….
Really appreciate how you kept your footage to what the demo showed us. I had to tab out of so many reviews and "watch" them as a podcast, because they kept spoiling the game for me. Keep it up.
I just tried the demo and I agree, if you put the from soft logo at the start I would believe they made this game, but the actually decent performance was a dead giveaway, can't wait to play the whole thing since elden ring dlc is taking some time
Just started it a few days ago. The dodge timing takes a bit getting used to, but the lack of any poise WHATSOEVER is really my only gripe. The fact you can get knocked out of any attack no matter the enemy is easily the biggest wtf decision they made
Thymesia was extremely disappointing. It just felt wierd and the worst thing was that it was like 3 hours long and only 3 short areas which you easily complete in one evening. Complete waste of money. Lies of P looks damn good though and i look forward to playing it.
This game has been surprisingly enjoyable. I never played the demo, so I just took a chance and wow. Definitely a dope surprise. There is actually a shield, it's just a Legion Arm that you can craft, I haven't used it yet so I am not sure how well it works.
You can level up at the rest points you just haven’t unlocked it yet. King is like halfway- less than halfway and you retain the ability to level up at rest points in new game plus.
I’ve only got about 30 min in so far, seems very fun, you think they fixed the dodge? I guess I was hoping for more of a bloodborne dash/dodge but any tips for early game to move forward?
Yeah I think the dodge is more fluid. As for tips - Parrying is super important for boss fights. I struggled with the first boss in the demo because I was trying to dodge his attacks rather than parry. If you're struggling with the game generally I always find doing a quality build is the best way to go. Basically use a weapon that has the same scaling in Motivity and Technique. Put equal stats into them and then sprinkle some stats into health and stamina as well. I don't know how familiar you are with these types of games but pay attention to your weight limit, if you are wearing heavy armour you will dodge and roll slower which makes the game waaaaay harder
The dodge didn't really get fixed, but its because of a progression/leveling reason. Since you watch the video, i guess talking about the P organ isn't really a spoiler. So the P organ is a skill tree basically, you need to put 2 kuarts to unlock a ability. So on each level you get 4 abilities, but you only need 2 to unlock the next level. If you want a more fluid movement, unlock the dodging abilities and it makes the game way faster and fun. Also dont worry about what you choose, you can respec later down the road.
Dodging needs to be fixed. The fighting felt a little to slow. (cluncky) The setting is very cool. I will play it, don't get me wrong. But for some reason Fromsoft is king in these sort of games. I hope Lords of the fallen will be amazing too..
I’m glad this is just you opinion, anyone can make a game where the character is weak as all hell and the bosses have massive health and strength and can kill you in one or two hits, at level 72 this bosses still one or two hi kill and my character still hits like a bitch.
My favorite Non-From Soulslikes: 1. Nioh series 2. Hollow Knight 3. Lies of P 4. Wo Long 5. Code Vein 6. Jedi Fallen Order 7. The last hero of Nostalgia
The real question is: should Lies of P have an easy mode? :P Great review, Adzi. Seriously considering getting this game now, looks very interesting to me
Only your first souls game is hard, then it becomes easy. Mortal shell was the only one who put a challenging trophy in there by only to be able to take 1 hit@@SadTown99
Do they get worse after the Master of Puppets? Up until then I found the bosses pretty balanced, unfortunately I haven't been able to finish the game because I had other games to review
Its pretty shallow to just judge how good a souls likes as how close they are to fromsoft. You might as well make a carbon copy. You dismiss both Nioh and Surge 2.Eventho those 2 created such a robust and connected fully fledged system that is unique to itself with just the foundation of fromsoft in there. Nioh had the stance system and Ki system that encourage you to keep attacking aggressively PROPERLY compared to bloodborne. Surge 2 has the implant charge and the Body part damage. The implant also encourages aggression or risk if you want some heals. Because without attacking you will not build charge to get a heal bar. The body part damage also lead to unique drops, unique combos, Dynamic fights where you cut off a monsters tentacle arm /tail and continue fighting as you cut off more limbs. Fromsoft games are amazing. But they're getting repetitive. Even Elden ring didn't feel that different. Its DS3 but open world and it's a different universe. You gotta accept games that innovate and make unique drastic changes
I don't think I dismissed Nioh, I said that they're the best examples of Souls like games. I also said that I haven't played The Surge 2 so I can't speak about the game. The main idea of this video was talking about how in the absence of Sony or FromSoft doing something with Bloodborne then there is absolutely nothing wrong with making a game that is very similar to Bloodborne. There's nothing wrong with a game being a 'copy' of a game if it's done well and has a few unique additions (exactly what Lies of P does).
@@AdziGamingO7u my bad. I must have misunderstood. When you want to play souls like are you actually for something not too far from dark souls? no wonder I misunderstood you, my bad for that. I always thought soulslikes were meant to be similar but massively unique changes
@@marshmallowman2633 No problem. And no I'm not neccesarily looking for something the exact same as FromSoft's games (I really liked Nioh for example) but when From and Sony refuse to do anything with Bloodborne then having a 'Bloodborne-like' is great in my eyes.
@@AdziGaming yeah, I changed my mind. I beat the scrap watchman on my first try. It took me like 30 tries on the demo. The factory boss gave me a lot of trouble until I worked out he was easier to dodge than parry. What a fantastic game. I really like it.
As soon as you tried to compare lies of P to Sekiro I was done with the video. Sekiro is on another level compared to this game. There is nothing in this game that reminds me of Sekiroo. Sekiro is fast-paced and very responsive with your moveset versus NPCs. Lop is the exact opposite. Sekiro is goty. Lop wont even be considered. There just is no comparing the two
And here is a perfect example of why people hate FromSoft fans 😂 if you listened to the video and/or played the game it's clear they took inspiration from Sekiro with The reliance on Parry's and the left arm abilities
Fromsoftware fans always say this sane crap that’s why I refuse to 100% join the community of virgin fromsoftware players I love their games but the fan base is toxic as hell
Not even close to the best Souls like. Mortal shell is Leaps and Bounds better than lies of p. Neowes I believe it's who makes lives of pee. I don't believe they understand boss fights. They don't understand the speed between player and NPC. It completely breaks the game. For me personally. The Perry system is a joke. Good luck pairing a combo from a boss. You got bosses five times the size of you that are five times faster than you with a weapon five times bigger than you and every time you get hit whether you are blocking or perfect Perry you get pushed back and must spend time moving back towards the enemy. By that time he is already in his next attack so if you swing you're going to get caught in the middle of your swing. There is something about the balance and the sponge enemies in the game. I do like the game but for me it has major balance issues with major speed mechanic issues between player and NPC

Mortal shell is among the best
I tried to get into it, but I have so much on my radar atm. It does look awesome and the game premise is so cool.
Mortal Shell doesn’t get enough love. Another small team that really put their heart into the game. I am really loving Lies of P.
