    I have that exact one from 1968, I would have been in 8th grade. I also graduated from the Daisy lever action to the Crossman. I once shot 80 Cicadas out of an elm tree one summer day with it. The secret was to have the tree act as a backstop. I took a rabbit out with 6 pumps a few years back with it. I also put a 20 dollar scope on it and had a blast sighting it in. Remarkably fun and reliable instrument.

      It's Deja Vu all over again. I got mine Christmas 1967, in the 8th grade. Crosman had two ads that year as I recall. One that was ubiquitous "Giant Killer" ad and the other was a holiday ad that told kids to cut the ad out, circle the picture of the gun, and leave it laying around the house to for mom and dad to see. Corny, but it worked for me. The gun wore out after a year (thousands of BBs, several "O" rings, and one rear sight that broke off). I moved up to the Crosman 140 the next Christmas. Wore two of those out.

    So *that's* why the bolt was so smooth and easy to operate on that gun! I was just reminiscing about the gun I grew up with, thought I'd try a youtube search, and sure enough, you have the exact same one with a similar personal connection to it! Wore that sucker out over the years never understanding everyone else's gun took so much more effort to operate. Thanks for the vid and the memories!

    I have a 760 that I bought as a boy in about 1968. Still works great. I did have the seal replaced in about 1970 but not since. The service dealer at the time recommended that I store it with 2 pumps of air in it to preserve the seals which I have faithfully done ever since. I was told I could pump it up to 25 times but now I believe they say a maximum of 10 pumps. I wonder why.

    I'm 30 and have my original pump master 760 from 1995 my parents bought for me, it's all metal and wood no plastic at all the black paint/bluing on the metal parts have been wore down to bare aluminum/metal showing just regular wear fr use never been rebuilt and shoots 690 fps and my new one I bought a month ago is all plastic comes with no pellet clip like they use to or fiber optic front sight like the mid 2000s ones had. And my older one from 90s more pumps the harder the trigger pull is and actually if you pump it up to 15 pumps it will get 870 fps with bb and 890 with pellet. I love my old one from 90s but don't shoot itucj to keep it in prestine shape for years to come. I have never had to mess with the sights that comes on both guns windage or elevation at all I put the rear sight at lowest position and I can hit a almost sub zero with it at 25 meters with pellets. The power master is the ultimate small rodent and bird killing machine for kids since they was first made, kids these days have no interest in a bb gun or pellet riffle at all they wanna play video games. And I was born in 1992 so I was a kid I couldn't stay inside play video games inside had nothing to do besides TV or help Mom clean or cook so we always stay outside playing the creeks in the woods and with her pellet guns and BB guns and just being boys. And if your squirrel hunting with it with pellets it's a pain in the but to take all the noises bbs out of it so we left them in and my parents new where me and All my friends was in the woods behind house cause of the noise of the bbs rolling in our guns lol. It was like ten of us who would run around with our pump masters. The new ones barley last one year with normal use using few times a week by a kid running with it will last about a month or two before the seals go out in the pump cup

    Hello Charles...thank you for the video. I am 71 years old and just bought the old gun you describe at an estate sale. Since the last BB type of gun I shot as a we lad was a "BB Gun" I am wondering what type of pellet this gun should use. I notice online [Amazon] they show a pointed version of a pellet, but, I'm wondering if it has to be round for this type of gun.

    • @CHARLESCRANFORD
      @CHARLESCRANFORD  3 года назад +1

      You could use the pointed type. There are all sorts of pellets on the market. Some may be too long to load in the 760. You can sometimes get sampler boxes of pellets to let you try different styles from one manufacturer. You will probably to find one pellet that works best for your 760. Even my Crosman 2289 now, is much different than my grandfather's was from the 1970's. I remember shooting it as a teenager in the '80s. My new one has a plastic breach, plastic collar to hold the barrel to the body (garbage) which makes any small scope you put on it, go off centre with a bump, because it's a barrel mounted scope and the barrel rolls a bit. On the plus side, it came with a stock to turn it into a carbine. Something my grandfather's did not, although it was available and they knew how to charge for it too. I remember it wasn't cheap, hence why he never bought it, nor did I. Now they just include it, hehehe. They do make steel breaches aftermarket and steel barrel collars which make that much better (and holds the stupid barrel still, lol). But you're talking an extra $70 in upgrades, for a $70 gun. Like you said, to make that same gun today, would cost $150 and it would even with new Crosman's in other models. Upgrade even some of the plastic in that with metal parts and you'll get up there close to what that old school one was quality wise pretty quick. 100% right, good vid.

      Thank you for the comment. I had a 1377 without the bolt, one of my old bb guns that I don't know where it went. (lost while growing up and moving away from home) I have one each of the new 1377 and 1322 and you are right you can spend a lot of money upgrading parts. It is true with almost any hobby, the sky is the limit. I guess companies have to make the "cheaper" guns to get people into the hobby, so they later buy the better quality guns that come with higher price tags. Thank you again for the complement and the comment "chat".

    My 760 Pumpmaster was made in 2006. On this model you cannot manually load BBs or pellets one at a time. You have to load the BBs in the side of the receiver and the pellets require a plastic 5 round magazine. You load the magazine and insert it into the receiver. After each shot you must slide the magazine to the next loaded pellet.
    I had an older 760 that had a grove in the receiver so you could place a single BB or pellet in the grove then slide the bolt to load the barrel I'm not sure what happened to that rifle. I bought this one to take care of pesky squirrels that took over the backyard where I used to live.
    They went back to the grooved receiver because of complaints people would lose the 5 round magazines. Those magazines are easy to misplace or lose.
    A few years ago I misplaced my 760 somewhere in my house. So I ordered a BB/pellet CO2 air pistol to shoot an invasive species of lizard that have taken over my backyard. Now that I've found my 760 I'll use it to take care of the lizards and return the BB/pellet pistol back for a refund minus restocking fee.

      @CHARLESCRANFORD  7 месяцев назад

      I am not familiar with the 66, but from what I have found online, it is like a cross between and 760 and a 2100, but keeps the top load. I have a 2100 and the side load is tough, with big fingers. Thanks for the question. I might have to get a 66 to do a side-by-side.

  • @idothings6685
    @idothings6685 Год назад

    Quick question, on mine tnere is a plastic piece on the left side just above the trigger that you can push in, and then theres a little switch on the top of the gun which appears to be above the same compartment, do you know what this is for? I can send a picture if youre not sure what im referring to.

    • @CHARLESCRANFORD
      @CHARLESCRANFORD  Год назад

      I think that compartment is where you put the bbs in. Then you turn the gun upside down, hold the switch back, and shake it, until the little slot magazine is full of bbs (I think about ten). When you cycle the bolt, one bb should be picked out of the magazine. If you want to shoot pellets you have to empty out the magazine, or on some models, just don't pull back the bolt far enough to pick up a bb. There are many models of the 760, but I think that is how yours works.

      Part of me agrees. It is a lower quality bb gun, but Crosman did keep it at about the same cost and still made in America. They have other bb guns made from mostly steel and wood, but they cost much more. By making a low cost bb gun that will last, they are making it easier for more kids to enjoy having their own bb gun to have fun learning proper gun handling skills. And for that reason, I think Crosman is keeping the spirit of the 760 alive.

    The new 760 is a piece of junk.

      It is not as good as the old 760, that is for sure, but you get what you pay for. Thank you for the comment.

      @Matrox One From what I understand, the crosman 760 is still made in the USA. I guess if they are wanting to use American labor and parts, and keep the cost down, they have to use less expensive parts.

      I got the newest one too. The new pump stinks. Pinches my fingers unlike the old one from the 90s I have. New one doesn’t appear to be as accurate either. Feels cheap. Stock looks like it’s ready to break. I’d prefer to pay double and get the same quality as the older ones. Oh well thanks for the review.

      @@gamingwithrickbekah9130 I have to agree. I think Crosman was trying to hit a price point, so they gave up quality. I think the Benjamin 397 is closer to the old 760 but it is close to $200. Thank you for the comment.

      @@CHARLESCRANFORD I’m going to check that out. I recently got the gamo whisper .177 pellet break barrel and I’m enjoying it far more than I ever liked the 760 or daisy pump I had. I can hit a quarter at about 25 yards. It’s crazy accurate. I bought 6000 wad cutter pellets for around a penny a shot.

    just picked up the 760 pumpmaster and am very disappointed, there is no way to use the 5 round pellet clip(even though its advertised as doing so) and it feels EXTREMELY CHEAP!!!!
    thinking of returning it seeing as its not what i was looking for to get my children into shooting.....
    side note: you can easily replace the seals in the powermaster 760 and get far better performance the the new pumpmaster 760

      I have never had a 760 that can use the 5 round pellet clip.
      The old 760s are better than the new ones.
      I have replaced the seals in a 761. The old 760, in this video, was my grandfathers. I might one day replace the seals, but right now it is more nostalgic than anything.
      Thank you for your comment and have fun getting your children into shooting.
