Bill, my wife had an '86 Prelude, a 5-speed. Recaro seats. Sunroof. Driving it was a thrill, especially driving on Highway One, from Long Beach to Carmel. Greatest road trip ever.
It was the most fun to drive on twisty roads. That car could corner and those seats were the best. I used to drive it around the reservoirs in NJ. Lots of hills and twisty roads in there. I've yet to find such a fun car to drive.😢
@DC Williams@DC Williams, your a Democrat for sure. Owned one, loved it please go join your ANTIFA rally and throw more Moltov Cocktails. But hey I worked for my money and my first car and was not waiting for a stimulus check to make my next mortgage payment so 🖕and, have a great Thursday.
I owned a 1991 Prelude Si 5-speed. Fantastic car. One of the best small sports coupes ever made. A legitimate alternative to a Porsche 944. Beautifully made inside and out, dead reliable, and elegant styling. It wasn't especially fast, but was quick enough to be entertaining on real public roads. Exquisite steering feel, through a world-class steering wheel. Outstanding shifter. Very good seats and excellent ergonomics. The proper all-independent, double-wishbone chassis produced sublime handling. So much so that I was very comfortable pushing its limits in the rain. It was arguably the best FWD chassis available at the time. Honda brakes were notoriously weak in those days, and were easily overheated. The pedal feel was excellent, but raw performance was lacking. We didn't have readily available aftermarket options in those days, so you put in quality pads and lived with the limitation. It was the car's biggest bummer, for me. The engine was not especially smooth from mid-RPM up, although a less restrictive exhaust really helps. Extreme back-pressure in the stock muffler apparently caused vibration throughout the car. The only mod I did to my car was to substitute a less restrictive muffler. It gave a nice improvement in engine response, added top end power, sounded better without being loud, and made it feel like a much smoother and happier engine. Simply one of the very best cars I've ever owned.
Original owner of a 1988 red prelude si. Had it for 17 years. Drove it every day. My favorite car. I miss it sooo much. Best seats and the visibility was amazing. And yes those are the original hubcaps. I remember they were a real pain in the ass to clean.
I had a red 1983 Prelude as a 1st car purchased at 15 years old with my golf-caddying money that I saved up for. I was in trouble with Mom all the time for driving without a license.....good times. Oh, I put an Alpine pull out cassette deck in it and I was proud of it.....fantastic car from Honda.
This was my dream car. I test drove a new 91’ Prelude Si that was fully loaded including a Rear spoiler and moonroof. It actually came in a black metallic with a camel tan interior with matching tan carpet in the trunk. Gorgeous, lol, I think I still have the dealers brochure.

I wish Honda would bring it back. Keep up the great work. Your personality is wonderful you make this so interesting along with passing on a wealth of knowledge. Have a great day.
My friend had a 1988 Honda Prelude and before you ask LOL! Yes it had both a manual transmission and 4WS. The handling going around curves in dry or wet weather was UNREAL! Unfortunately my friend tested it's wet weather handling one too many times and he ended up hitting a highway divider totalling it. I just found one of these listed on Autotrader with automatic and 4WS and it had similar low miles and sold on Bring A Trailer for nearly 10k. CRAZY!
With the 4ws, if you only turn the wheel a little, all the wheels turn in the same direction to quickly change lanes and once the steering wheel is upside down (while turning of course) the back wheels will turn opposite of the front wheels. They don't turn as much as the front because duh but its super cool and innovative for its time.
Actually not so... the 4ws on this car was always live because it was hard mechanical. Honda tested this steering system for almost a decade before it came out to make sure there was almost nothing that could go wrong...

I literally have the same color prelude si but its a 1990 and I love it and its my daily driver. they really are rare and unique and so much fun to drive.also the hub caps are not the original si ones but the ones you got fit the era and appearance for sure.
Those hubcaps were on the earlier ones from 87-90. Maybe the base model still had them in 91. Never seen manual window winders on one before. In Australia we only got 4ws fuel injected models with electric windows as far as I know.
@@nathanhellwig1282 since it was my first brand new car and I was paying for it and had it for 17 years, I remember lots of details about the car. You didn't have many options on the si. You could opt to get 4ws or pin stripping. The color car you chose dictated the color interior you got. The si came with power windows, fog lights and a moon roof with shade. I got the red one and that came with an all black interior and seats. I did get pin stripping. I bought it in NY, so maybe in Canada they sold it with manual windows. It came with 2 keys. Both had a black base with Honda impressed on it. One was square the other round. The square one let you lock the trunk and gas hatch button. I don’t think the button on the front of the shifter is overdrive, it’s actually “sport shift”. Made the lower gears in the auto trans wind out a little more before shifting
I love the comments you have added to this I totally remember all those "quarks and features" that make the car cool..the sounds and smells of an old honda!!!
I had an '85 Prelude S with the carbs. Thing had so many vacuum lines. Something went screwy with it so i dumped it. Was a great car because it was so light it handled so well. The gearing was crap in the 5sp so it revved like crazy on the interstate.

I owned ‘91 with JDM B20A engine 5 speed manual. It was black on black with all the options available. Revved pretty high when on highway going like 80 mph it went past 4000 rpm but still great on gas

The kid i bought it from back in 2011 for $800 said it has a H23 engine that was a complete failure also the snake intake air filter that I put on was not on correctly plus it was shutting off when going to Newark New Jersey trip when the next day I left it was fine until I was driving almost empty when it reach Philadelphia to my ex to bail me out with gas money from the New Jersey Turnpike. And when driving the 4th gen Prelude with the cool digital dashboard through the passenger i heard nothing to the radio just the exhaust sound to my ears.
Almost bought the Si with the four wheel steering several years ago. Couldn't give up my still daily driver 88 CRX Si. Don't make them like they used to.
Are you not afraid of your government? You are an excellent stand in for the people I knew and decided to use Covid as an excuse to ignore, but miss dearly. Thank you for filling my void Florida Man ❤️
Canadan prelude? Because the wheels look like 88/89, the seats are from a base and the Si had power windows. I had a 91. Was obsessed with the prelude since 81. I know all about the trim levels. To me, Someone just stuck an Si badge on it.
Damn, such a nice car. Is that the original paint job? Love this car in white but it looks awesome. How much did it cost? Couldn't watch the whole video to find out but I didn't hear it mentioned.
I know it's a minor grievance but it looks like the driver side pop up headlight was repaired at one point and now is not as flush with the body as it should be. To me it's kind of a sore thumb. Though it wont matter when you're driving it which is most important.
So how much did this one go for? My first new car was a Red 1988 Prelude SI 5 spd no 4ws, even had the same hub caps and looked almost exactly like this one, only the front bumper was a little different. The 4ws was a gimmick that made for really tight turning radius, other than that it was useless, just another thing that could go wrong. It handled really well for the time, but you don't see them tearing up race tracks then or at any other time, and that is for good reason. This is and was a fun, stylish, reliable transportation. If I found one that was really clean and reasonably priced, I would buy it just out of nostalgia. However, just because it is a Honda, it is still a 30 year old car so you have to expect things will go wrong with it. So I would not pay more than $3-4K for one, maybe $5K if it is super clean.
I don't know how much this one sold for. I bought a brand new prelude si in 1988. It had all power and cost me $17,500. Four wheel steering cost an additional ,$1800. So I didn't get it as the car was already pricey.
@@jazzythecat918 This was my first new car and at the time I was told it was a great deal (my dad was friends with the owner of the dealership). I recall my dad getting irked that I wasn't more grateful (kids), now I understand.
@@ericmichel3857 wow, $2k below sticker price...you got a steal of a deal. I bought it because I was impressed how it handled and I liked the body style. My father was very impressed with the quality of the interior, while I wasn't at first. I read that the interior was comparable to the Mercedes at the time. Looking back I realise you did alot of car for the money. After 17 years the interior still looked new. The body, not so much, it had alot of body rot, due to the north east winters. It will always be my favorite and I'll always miss it, as it was the most fun to drive.
Had an '89 2.0Si in white just like this. Like you said, low and incredible visibility, excellent road feel. And those hub caps are the same as on my '89. Maybe not exactly correct for a '91, but close enough for sure. When I had my first kid, I sold it to a dumbass 20 year old who immediately proceeded to get drunk and roll it through a fence onto it's roof. God I miss that car.
The Prelude is/was one of my favorite all time Honda's. It was the Accord Coupe that killed this model. Sadly the only 2 door Honda you can buy is a Civic which is fine but lacks any character. Hopefully Honda if Honda is smart enough the Sports EV concept will be this cars replacement.

Very Nice. My family drives only Honda's!
Lucky you. That's fan- I mean, that's pretty good to hear!
Where's the spoiler with LED brake light? Si models had it standard along with alloy wheels. I had a 91 Si. Miss that car.
I'm a sucker for pop-ups too.
Great car. But website doesn’t even show price. Cmon
yeah.. why do they not list the price.. That kind of sux...

Almost bought the Si with the four wheel steering several years ago. Couldn't give up my still daily driver 88 CRX Si. Don't make them like they used to.
Lol she said Hello to the Miata 😂. Shes a beautiful red Prelude, but the most exciting is the 4WS.
Keep up the great content! Always a good laugh, combined with knowledge!
Sell me this Prelude, Bill. Please. These are very attractive Japanese coupes. Love those headlights!
Are you not afraid of your government? You are an excellent stand in for the people I knew and decided to use Covid as an excuse to ignore, but miss dearly. Thank you for filling my void Florida Man ❤️
Perfect for the Sniper on a budget!!
Canadan prelude? Because the wheels look like 88/89, the seats are from a base and the Si had power windows. I had a 91. Was obsessed with the prelude since 81. I know all about the trim levels. To me, Someone just stuck an Si badge on it.
Those seats were so comfortable you could drive for 10 hours and your back or legs never felt it.
I live in St Lucia. And I own one exactly like yours but in white. I have 24540 miles on my odometer
Love this year and model my favorite color too
Damn, such a nice car. Is that the original paint job? Love this car in white but it looks awesome. How much did it cost? Couldn't watch the whole video to find out but I didn't hear it mentioned.
"....theyd better have two-dimensional legs..."!!!!! Hysterical!
Never ever seen this gen prelude with manual windows. Holy shit
I miss my 81 Prelude, but it rusted away.
Paul Edmonds my 79 Prelude disintegrated right in front of me. Love that car though
Had a 1988 si prelude I loved it. After 17 years the interior still looked fabulous while the body had lots of rot and looked like a ghetto blaster.
That Is a dam great car. Wonder what the price is?
I know it's a minor grievance but it looks like the driver side pop up headlight was repaired at one point and now is not as flush with the body as it should be. To me it's kind of a sore thumb. Though it wont matter when you're driving it which is most important.
Tuve un Prelude 91en rojo me encantaba ese auto
Looks like the ground strap under the hood is floating around .
pause @2:46 and the NSX influence though...
Love Honda cars and bikes. I've owned more Hondas than any other make.
My first car, still wish I had it
So how much did this one go for?
I bought what sounds like the exact same car, paid $15,700 for it. I never really new, but based on what you paid, I guess I did get a good deal.
It will always be my favorite and I'll always miss it, as it was the most fun to drive.
dude the 4ws is awesome when youre actually moving but parking is a w f u l
Gear shift...or is the car glad to see you? We had two Accords. Wonderful cars.
You remind me of grumpy Rodney Dangerfield with a cigar
Pop up headlights = 2 different looks for the 1 car.
I loved this bodystyle
Boy you were struggling with this one !
I just sold a 90' si manual last year
Nice classic car,butifull condition
Damn, I want that car!
beautiful so rare even in nz the jdm junkyard
The Prelude is/was one of my favorite all time Honda's. It was the Accord Coupe that killed this model. Sadly the only 2 door Honda you can buy is a Civic which is fine but lacks any character. Hopefully Honda if Honda is smart enough the Sports EV concept will be this cars replacement.
Yea in new cars you feel like you’re driving a video game
1991 si had alloy wheels. What happened to original rims?
Thats the base model.
Is it fast? I mean like ik it can reach 160kmh in 24 seconds but i aint sure if that's good and im looking to buying one soon
