I have had the SE since September it’s great on performance, you can see it’s great screen and for fitness performance you can’t go wrong. You can also use Strava straight off the watch for easy syncing to your phone. Battery is really great also, much better than the one I upgraded from my series 3. I can’t recommend it enough!
thank you so much for the super comprehensive review! At first I thought you are a digital review guru but then half way in the video when you showed us multiple sports in the making I was like maybe a fitness guru !? Turned out you have the merits from both sides. 😊
Something to note that I haven’t seen in your videos is that with iOS14 and specifically iOS14.3 we got a bunch of new measurements I had never see before in the health app. With iOS14 I see stair speed (up/down), double support time, step length, walking asymmetry. These sound pretty similar to some of the running metrics in Garmin Connect. Also in iOS14.3 VO2max is now called Cardio Fitness and it would seem that the value is calculated in a different way. They have also added threshold levels for it. I guess this is for all AW, I got it on my AWS5.
This most important takeaway here is literally the takeaway: I now have a new profile picture for Des in my phone...as Mario. Every...single...text: Mario Des.
I’m going to wait for the series 7 - 44mm version . I’m not really a fitness kind of person but useful for everyday use age. I wish the watch can last more than a day but Apple not interested in making the watch to last at least a week .
Almost one month ago that I gotten Apple Watch SE in space grey color at Target. It was a big upgrade from series 2 Apple Watch. I got the SE for this one app from my iPhone towards my vehicle. I almost got series 3 but, I changed my mind on SE.
Hey, great video. Which is the difference from classical apple watch se? I found a very good chance of getting SE Nike watch but I am a little bit worried because I wanted the applewatch se. Thank you a lot.
I love the thorough videos, I was wondering which would be best for me. I’m stuck between the Apple Watch SE and the Garmin Venu SQ. I’m looking to mostly track my heartbeat and indoor steps and a rough estimate on calories burned since I walk a lot at work. I’m also interested in walking outside for long distances but I’m not interested in the gps aspect, I just want to know basic info like how many steps, miles, calories burned, etc. Which watch should I go for?
This is my 3rd Apple watch and I do enjoy the integrated apple ecosystem but I still keep coming back to my Fenix 5 for one main reason, battery life. Almost everything else Apple makes has excellent battery management except their dang watches.
Thank you so much for the review. I recently bought a garmin venu, how would you compare it to the se? I would love to have the smart phone features if the quality of the activity tracking stacks up but I haven’t been able to find comparisons of those two watches anywhere. All I can find is the venu would be less likely to break and has longer battery life. If my music is downloaded to the watch with Spotify will it play without my phone like the venu when I run? Thanks, sorry so many questions 😬😂
Although I’m not running kind of guy I find the Nike version to be pretty good with the few extra items on such as the faces and app and it’s the same price as the regular one
Wow, your gym is open? Do you just happen to have a Super Mario costume under that desk of yours just in case a watch GPS data set shows drifting? Great review as always!
Ritght à te beginning, you can see on the fitness app that he burns 1.200 Cal per day in average !!!!!! That’s insane ! Have a really good day, take care 😁😁
Great review, as always Des. I’m on the verge of getting the AW6. Are there any third party apps for the AW that give any sorts of training data or analysis? The stock app doesn’t even seem to tell you what training zones you were in. It looks like it just shows a series of small lines under the heart rate data section. Thanks!
Not Des, but WorkOutDoors, HealthFit, Training Today, and Tempo Running will break down zones, show metrics, and WorkOutDoors will give you maps during runs and is highly customizable.
Thanks for another great review. Could you please comment on active and total calories results on both AW6 and SE. Do you find it accurate and how does it compare with other test devices? Thank you.
Apple Watch is a much better smartwatch but won't have the battery life, durability, sensor support, or training feedback via Garmin Connect of the Garmin.
If you're holding the supports on the treadmill is the apple watch still accurate on tracking calories? Is it also accurate for exercises such as pushups and burpees?
Did you experience any heart rate drop outs if it isn’t positioned correctly on your wrist or too loose/tight? I’m about to ditch my Fitbit for this reason. Whenever I work out it screws up when I start sweating. Reads like 50bpm too low. Fitbit says to reposition it on my arm but that doesn’t work.
For fitness, Garmin. For an iPhone smartwatch: Apple (also have the best HR sensors currently, but not great battery life). I’d only recommend a Samsung watch as an android smartwatch but not as a fitness watch.
Quick question: are the bands of the regular Apple watch compatible with the Nike Apple watch? So that if you buy an Nike Apple watch, you can still buy a regular Apple watch band (for example a silicone soloband) for your Nike Apple watch.
Hey Des. I have two questions for you. I scanned through all 256 comments and didn’t see the answer to my first question: If I go with the GPS version, will it sync my runs with my phone later on when I’m in the range of my iPhone? This determines if I save myself $100 in regards to LTE. Your reviews proved how bad the battery is with LTE… My second question is that my friend has offered to sell me his Series 4 slightly used watch for $150. Would you recommend this over purchasing a brand new SE? Thanks in advanced. Also, after watching your in depth reviews, I subscribed. Keep up the great work on these videos! Appreciate the hustle.
Thanks Matthew! Yup, you can track your workouts without your phone and when you get within range of your phone the workout will then sync. That's a good deal on the Series 4!
I now bought the Garmin 245 and next I’m thinking about the HRM strap Garmin Pro or the Polar H10. Which schould I buy ? Do you have an opinion/expierence ?
Do you need data to use it on runs im looking for a app that don’t use data and I can just take my watch and my AirPods out for a run with out my phone
I broke my S3 and decided to buy the SE instead. I've been using the SE for a week now and I ave to decide until tomorrow if I would like to return it. To be honest I don't feel the upgrade, it is faster, the display is bigger but I think I would still be satisfied with a S3. The only thing that makes me think is future updates, will there be any updates that I would want and with the S3 I would probably not get?
It's tough to say if there will be software features in the future that would not be available on the Series 3. On the software front these devices are indeed similar and just the hardware differences that you outlined. The faster processor on the SE could be a factor with new software updates.
Thanks for the thorough review. Very informative. However, currently I am having Garmin Venu as my weight training tracker. But I am quite interest to buy apple watch SE. any thoughts?
@@DesFit yes I use the rep counting from Venu. Often times it does not count my reps correctly, though I wear it quite tight. Thanks for your reply, so helpful.
Hi Des, is there a solution for the GPS accuracy in the meantime? While I am very satisfied with the AW SE otherwise, the GPS accuracy drives me crazy. I frequently participate in a 5k parkrun and everytime it would cut edges so I lose .3 to .5k. This is annoying when you try to reach a new 5k PB… I was wondering if disconnecting the watch from the phone while running or using any 3rd party app for tracking would improve the situation? How tight should the strap be for optimal readings? Yours looks fairly tight. I used the measuring tool for the new one piece strap and it seems to fit well with a little looseness, but after looking at yours I’m wondering if mine is too loose
You don't need to have it super tight but you'll need to have the watch pretty secure to avoid any chance of the watch moving around with whatever activity that you're doing.
Dear Sir, Strava recording on my watch SE does not show the routemap on Strava on my Iphone 12. Is this not possibele? Using apple watch workout does show a routemap.....so the GPS is working ok. Any solution?? thnx
