as a huge taylor swift fan i agree that the criticism of her is valid. its so ridiculous that there are actual things that these people could be pointing to as i guess defects in her character (carbon emissions, etc) but instead they are just gross and misogynistic and its clear that they just view her as less than because shes a woman. also yes stan no body no crime

comparing sports to theatre suddenly makes so much sense to me why i'm such a big theatre nerd and an equally big phillies fan. I always thought I was in two totally different genres of fandom (and for the most part i am given the types of people in each) but I'd argue that philly sports lately have been ESPECIALLY theatrical, what with the phillies not being in the playoffs for ten years and then making it to the world series last year. I get the same chills from bryson stott's grand slam as I do from hearing jeremy jordan belt his little heart out in the last note of santa fe. EVERYTHING IS COMPARABLE and i can't believe it took me this long to realize. thanks harry!
edit: YES TO THE NO BODY NO CRIME HYPE

Nice video. I find this obsession with her bizarre, yes I’m a fan, but this negative obsession with her is irrational. The comments about her, she has every right to be there, its not her fault the nfl lost their minds and want to benefit from her presence. But the fans. its amazing to hear. “these people don’t even know the game”, “these fans are not real fans, what’s going to happen when they break up”, “if they lose, its going to be her fault”. I mean the weight of the entire season seems to be on her shoulders. But, my question is why does it matter why these people have started watching the nfl, isn’t it a good thing? do they not understand that the nfl has tried to get female watchers for decades? Not only that, but Taylor is the biggest international superstar right now, a lot of her fans do not even know the game of football because football is a North American sport. And this has encouraged them to LEARN ABOUT A GAME THATS NOT EVEN IN THEIR COUNTRY! Do they understand that impact she has? NFL fans are criticizing it as bizarre to start watching a sport because of this parasocial relationship with her. Well, i find it to be actually normal. That’s how people learn new things, get introduced to them. When Joe Montana moved from the 49ers to KC, I started watching KC. Did it matter why? No. When Peyton Manning moved to Denver, Indianapolis fans started watching the Broncos. Did it matter why? No. when you move to a new city and find new friends who like this new kind of music, you adapt and go with it, does it matter why? You start dating someone new and they like country music and you let that into your world, does it matter why? They want to watch NFL on sundays, so that’s what you do too. Does it matter why? Does it matter if my non-serious boyfriend from college, some 35 years ago, liked the Yankees, so I root for the Yankees still today. I moved to a new place and met a bunch of English blokes that watch English soccer, so I learned the game and watched with them. Does it matter why? No? It brings a smile to my face. Remembering watching Joe MOntana reminds me of watching football with my dad and that brings a smile to my face. It does not matter what brings people to try new things, and it may last a season, a few years, but usually that fondness at least brings a smile to their face decades later. The NFL gained female viewership, like 60%. Thats amazing. Does it matter why? Does it really matter that they are watching because Taylor? To be honest. Its not entirely because they think she will be there at all. Her fans support what she supports, its unlike any other fandom. If she supports the Chiefs, they will. Watch the viewership stay up (maybe not as far up) while she leaves for tour with no chance of her being there. Watch people still tune in. Her wearing that Erin Andrews jacket to the last game, it sold out in like an hour. Her fans support what she supports. If she likes a movie, her fans will see it. If she is friends with another artist, they listen to their music too. They now watch the Kelce podcast, not because they think she will be on it, but to support Travis. NFL fans need to get on board and realize she has done nothing wrong, is bringing not only a new female fan base to the NFL, but an entire international viewership previously untapped (well, they may or may not be able to view but they are following online and in chats). Does it matter why these new fans are interested? NO. They are. and that’s a good thing. There is no need to shoot it down, insult it, be afraid of it. And some (few, but there are some) have reciprocated and decided to listen to Taylor’s music. Does it matter why they decided to do so? NO. I wish the NFL fans would understand this is really the best thing to happen to the NFL in decades, and she is not an enemy. Right now everything she touches turns to gold so I say jump on the bandwagon because she is a lucky charm.

I just wanna add that only Americans care/know about the NFL. Taylor is an international superstar, she absolutely does not need help from the NFL to increase her popularity at the height of her career. She might even be introducing American football to non-Americans.
    Great video btw.

I always loved football, and watched it weekly with my dad every season growing up. Then I moved out and i forgot about it. Taylor got me back into caring about and watching football and it's been so fun. I really liked this video because yeah she has her own issues but i like her and i like her music and i think she, like everyone, deserves to be happy. I think your break down was really good and i appreciated it because as someone who has been a fan of hers for a long time, sometimes I feel like i get written off because im just "obsessed" with her. So it was nice to hear these points coming from someone who is more neutral. I agree the bigger issue isn't about Taylor but she is a huge figure who is easy to use as proof of how misogyny still exists and people need to be aware and not act like the way women are talked about isn't still an issue in a lot of circles. Not only celebrities, but you would be exhausted if you had to hear how i have to justify my enjoyment of the NFL to a lot of people now that Taylor has "ruined it" or whatever they say. I liked it before but even if didn't...who cares? Why do people act like there is never enough room at the table for everyone?

Like, I live in Europe. No one knew who Travis Kelce, or the Kansas City Chiefs were before Taylor Swift showed up. Why? Because the NFL is limited to America. This is the internet, not America! Like if Dua Lipa started dating Marcus Rashford (a premier league football player, national treasure and all-round gem of a human being), would these same "commentators" still be saying the Dua Lipa needs FIFA? Equally, she would not be saving the English Premier League, lol.

Not trying to critique but I did find it interesting that while you compare the joy the two worlds share, you also didn’t compare how they’re probably alike in the aftermath either. There is absolutely no way on this earth that multiple theaters of Swifties haven’t left hurricane levels of mess behind. That could also be a point of comparison not taken. Though I also don’t think it’s a completely fair comparison noisewise, since the whole city would practically be at bars being rowdy so noise bleed over would be normal, while the Swifties would be bleeding over in a setting where loud singing and noise is not commonly allowed and actively ruins others’ experiences for the movie they paid for.

i think it's a bit unfair comparing the swifties being passionate about taylor swift's music (which music in general is known to move people) and doesn't cause any harm to people around to bunch of grown men who get violent towards people around them especially women when their team loses. this is definitely a nuanced conversation but there are literal studies and statistics about increase in domestic abuse in households during big sports tournaments. i've experienced the way these sports enthusiasts are treating the swifties like they are wrongly infiltrating their "space" which can't be gatekept and the endless misogyny towards taylor, it's actually ugly. i feel these are two different demographics that might never mix fully.
