I show how to create an alignment and clearance planes for a simple part.
All programs must have an alignment and clearance planes before the program will run.

Brilliant! There are not that much materials for CMM Zeiss on youtube but this is pure gold when you want to start learning how to work with machine Calypso. Kudos!

Thanks so much! I’m working on PiWeb reporting videos now. I’ll have to redo all these videos eventually because we switched from Calypso 2018 to 2021.

Thank you very much for preparing a set of valuable collection of training videos on CMM and GD&T. I am following them one by one. I think the order of the CMM Zeiss playlist no. 7 and 8 might be reversed.

Great video series. Coming from PC Dmis as a high-level programmer, i am looking for something that i can self-teach myself Calypso, and I may have found something to get me going.
Question: Why did you use a line for the Tertiary Datum? Is this something that Calypso requests? Setting up two lines in a Datum Structure would not work in true theory and in a basic Datum Structure the Tertiary Datum would normally be a Point to lock the Sixth Degree of Freedom. For example, if you take that part and set it into a box, it would rest on its bottom face. pushing it up against the X- side would level it against the side of the box. Pulling it down into the Y- side of the box is where the Tertiary Datum would come into play. If you try to force it onto a line, it would level onto the side of the box, and come off of the side of the Secondary Datum (the X- side of the box). An imperfect part cannot possibly rest on two lines like that. If you had an open-sided box and a post in the Y- direction, pulling the part down until it hit the post, the part would rest on the quadrant of the circle (or the point) and you would have Theoretical perfect stability.
Just wondering if this is something I should look for when setting up Datum Alignments in Calypso.

Hello, I need a program to proof the axis on a rotation table or calibrate it! I need help on Calypso 2023.

Hello! I’m new to calypso; at my previous job (machine shop) I used PC-DMIS and have about 1 year of running programs and 6 months of making programs with that. My only experience with Calypso was in medical manufacturing and running a program, not making one.
At my new job I will primarily be performing FAI’s on pipe assemblies from our vendors. We manufacture boiler and water filtration systems. From what I’ve seen so far (been there a week) most of the dimensions will be from centerlines of the pipes in the assemblies. So there will be lots of cylinders and virtually no planes.
Since most of my x/y/z origins will be a centerline of a pipe, is there a particular method to alignment of a cylinder in Calypso? I only touched on an alignment of cylinders in PC-DMIS and it was a while ago (been out of that job since the pandemic) but I know it was different with cylinders verses planes with PC-DMIS so it seems like it’ll be different with Calypso since the probe scans the part. Do you cover that in any of your videos?
    Thanks so much!

Hi, great videos. Why do you click NO on "Update clearance plane settings for defined features" ? What does this mean?

    • @RDeanOdell
      @RDeanOdell  2 года назад

Thanks! So what that does is open a menu that recommends changes to clearance planes for each feature. It can be useful if you have a complicated part with different stylus systems etc…

Hi, great tutorials! Im having 2 issues with my machine (Zeiss Eclipse 550, Calypso 2016 v6.2.12)...When i set up the flatness and choose my Plane 1, i get an error: "The repeatability may be poor if there are not enough measurement points for feature 'Plane 1'. Increase the number of points or change the evaluation method to Guass"
Also, when i run the flatness, instead of "scanning" like yours did, it only touches the individual points of the plane and the 2 lines.
Any idea why it doesnt scan like yours does in the video? Thanks in advance!!!

how to do alignment with 321 when three planes are not perpendicular to each other. For that datum target points defined 3 points for primary, 2 points for secondary and 1 point for tertiary. ? thank you

Can Calypso do zero point alignments? Put a probe in a hole and hit go and it finds the part based on a program? I do this in Renishaw's Modus software and it works beautifully.

    • @RDeanOdell

Hi, as far as I know, Calypso needs a minimum of two separate feature to establish an alignment. It is possible to do a “best fit” alignment to shapes that do not have planes or features of size, but the norm is to have 3 features for the alignment.

Sir can you provide simulator of zeiss calypso

  • @carlosferraz2406

I’ve a question. I’d like to know how is the best way to make the alignment using the plane as a Datum A, the first hole is Datum B (coordinate X 0 Y0 ) and the second hole is Datum C (coordinates X 1.25 Y 2.75 ). I need to measure the plane and the two cylinders….how can I do to alignment with a Cylinder at Datum C ? the software calypso not apply to make this situation in two cylinders. Could you make a video to simulate this situation, please?

Hi, I’d be glad to take a look at your situation. Send me an email with a sketch of your part and I can potentially make a video about it.
