Ive sat in too many restaurants and watched people eat almost an entire meal without complaint only to tell their waiter their meal was subpar and ask for their money back. Some people will complain about anything and then get mad when they aren't refunded.
after much consternation and inner debate i once complained but prefaced it with an assurance that i didn't want a refund, but only on the chance that my feedback might help them improve their kitchen procedures. i really didn't want to be like those other guys... i got a refund anyway so i split that with the table as a group benefit. (my issue was a pill bug was wandering around in my salad so i thought maybe they needed to wash their greens more vigorously 🙂)
I work for a Jail, and I promise you, I wouldn’t want to spend 7 minutes there involuntarily. There’s not even a single similarity to the absolute worst cruise that I’ve been on. I have never been on Icon but I know it’s nothing like the County Jail.
I was on that ship too Don. I had a beautiful room, the food was amazing! However, I didn’t enjoy myself like I thought I would. But being a travel agent, I found a rate for only $1279 - not including the port charges, fees and taxes/travel protection for a total under $1700 pp. I think it was a group rate and someone released the room, it was an ocean view guarantee. If you don’t have your own family, or know others, it’s not personable at all. I guess that’s why I love the Carnival! I can go by myself and always have a ball! But I would still prefer to being on a boring ship than in jail ANYDAY!!!
Too all about me for sure. I’ve noticed that some people have a mindset when on a cruise that the rules of regular life don’t apply. They want to be served and pampered to the point where polite etiquette goes out the window.
We have not sailed ICON but have sailed over a dozen Royal ships from the smallest to three Oasis class ships and every time the staff and customer service has been top notch. Has everything been 100% perfect every day, no, but it they always try to make it right. We even had to switch cabins for a day as they fixed a leak but we thought it was handled as well as it could have been. We have recently published 4 ship tours and reviews so if anyone is worried at all about Royal, you can take a look for yourself! Thanks Don and everyone have a great day!
Good for you...sailed Adventure of the Seas March 2023....no mattress on bed, 6328...called guest service, their fix, put 4 more sheets on top of box spring, how would you enjoy sleeping on a box spring with NO mattress for 6 nights....🖕🏻 Royal Carribean, you keep it!!!
Any vacation is what you make it, in fact, life is what you make it... some people are just unhappy and will always be unhappy no matter what they are presented with. So many of us take for granted how blessed we really are. Cruising is by far one of the best deals in vacationing. Also, and maybe it's just me, but be able to go to different places without packing and unpacking... also, just watching the ocean is amazing. That's just me though.
Completely agree with this statement! Do they realize how many ppl will live their entire lives without ever having the opportunity to cruise or even travel abroad for that matter? Such a blessing, ppl need to relax, be grateful & stop being so entitled!
Wife and I just got off of a 7 day cruise on the Harmony of the Seas. We were in an Aqua Theater Suite and we had an awesome time. There were a few glitches involving dining, but there are so many places to eat that we chose to adapt without making it a problem--we rolled with it. Our concierge was more concerned about the glitches than we were, she wanted and was working to resolve what was really not a big deal to us. It was all really too wonderful actually. Plus celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary was our focus--key is we were there to celebrate and enjoy each other, our family that was with us and the wonderful ship. 😎🤟
The people are trying to work the system to get a discount or an upgrade on their next cruise. I to was on icon in August and had a wonderful time , service was excellent, entertainment was memorable, food was delicious.
We sailed on Icon in September 2024. The ship was wonderful. The staff members were top notch. The food was outstanding-we had lobster and colossal shrimp in the buffet. Entertainment was great. Sounds like this person had unreasonably high expectations and had never been on another ship before.
These are the same type of people that would complain if our flights were 20 minutes late, or give me a lot of grief because I’m delaying a flight for weather when there severe storms in the area. Trust me they would be the first ones scream like little girls if we encountered any moderate to severe turbulence. I’m extremely happy that I retired and don’t have deal with Ken’s and Karen’s anymore.
I used to get mad when my plane got delayed. Now I thank god cuz I know it’s for my safety. RUclips helped me understand how scary safety issues can be on planes
I was unaware that they have alcohol, pools, hot tubs, live music and entertainment in jail. Not to mention someone serving your food and cleaning up after you.
Our cruise on Icon was wonderful, she's a fantastic ship and we didn't even scratch the surface of fun in 7 days...so we must return. For those negative people who are never satisfied....I'm so sorry life is so difficult for you, I feel sorry for them....pity! I adopt Auntie Mame's take on life..."Life is a banquet and most poor suckers are starving to death!" They should have found Rover and gotten some doggie therapy whilst there!
Its a bit infuriating that people who have the privilege of being able to go on a beautiful cruise ship complain. What a great treat that such things even exist for just about everyone and they find things to gripe about? What a despicable bunch they are
My daughter and I sailed on the Icon over Halloween. It was an amazing ship and we had a fantastic time!! The shows were amazing. The food was good and the service was wonderful. Maybe I'm easy to please. As far as crowded it was crowded on the first night for the midnight balloon drop and on Halloween for the costume parade. I can't complain about anything we had a great time. I would definitely recommend the Icon. It is a truly amazing ship and actually a destination on its own.
It was not worse than jail. My family tried Icon several months ago and concluded we would not do such a large ship again. The customer service has gone downhill as well as the food. The long lines you wait in are also just crazy. The pools were at capacity one sea day.
Last year, I was back to back on a ship during hurricane season. Had to change one entire itinerary so did the same ports two weeks in a row: Eastern Caribbean twice! This year, different cruise line, same problem. This time did Western Caribbean two weeks in a row. Life happens! Experienced cruisers adapt, adjust attitudes and enjoy the blessings along the way.
Saying they would rather go to jail than be on Icon or blaming the captain he knows what is best they are crazy never been on Icon it is a big beautiful ship can't get over how big evey time I see it would love to be on it
My biggest concern is how we are going to survive all these financial and political crises, especially the power struggle in the US. The government has really made things difficult for its citizens and we cannot just sit by and suffer the consequences of bad governance... ...
Today I'm kicking myself for not investing in cryptocurrency. I've been scared because of my lack of regulation in the cryptocurrency market. Please is there a way I can start now???

Same here, I met Mrs. Roberta Ann Caudill last year for the first time at a conference in Wilshire, after then my life has changed for good. God bless Roberta Ann
Lord, I can’t believe the person saying being on Icon was as bad as jail even went on the ship. I just got off the Christmas cruise on Icon and even though we were a very full ship with lots of kids there was still plenty of space to spread out and enjoy all the wonderful amenities. I’m not convinced it’s worth paying twice as much vs an oasis class but it’s a fantastic ship!
If those folks were in a Suite with a noise issue and were moved to another stateroom that was not a Suite, there should have been compensation now, not on a future cruise.
We cruised on The Icon of the Seas this past March & it was the most fantastic vacation I’ve ever had. The Icon is mind blowingly beautiful. The entertainment was amazing & we never found any of these negatives to be true. Staff & CS was astounding. These people are just professional, chronic complainers. I LOVE Royal Caribbean. It’s one of the most well run, efficient companies I’ve ever seen. So much so that I bought RC stock! Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas is the BEST VACAY EVER!! PS: Our food was fabulous!! We had a Junior Suite, ate at The Costal Kitchen & all the other restaurants and had wonderful food!!
My hometown had 2,500 people. I just can’t imagine being aboard a ship with that many passengers. I like being able to see the ocean instead of something that looks like a shopping mall on the inside. Each to their own, I guess. In any event, people who complain about everything probably are pretty unhappy with themselves.
Don you are on point all through this. These people are ignorant, pointless and absurd. I hope they never ever cruise again. It's these kind of people that makes cruising experience terrible. I bet they made other passengers uncomfortable with their unwarranted complaints. They should just stay in jail as what they wanted to. I mean all of them with their negativity. Also u are right she complained for spending $1700 on a 7- day cruise? Get out of here! I hope they never leave land! Thanks for your fairly and honest commentary. Christian from Toronto - Former Junior Assistant Cruise Director Princess Cruises.
No way that is a real honest review. That's like $350 a day insanely cheap. The only thing that's ever negatively effected my cruise is weather which no one can control
I am a diamond on Carnival,, I have been on two Royal Caribbean cruises. They were both fabulous. The icon of the seas is not a jail. It’s a paradise, never felt crowded, and the food was great. These people are full of horse 💩
People are crazy. I retired from my interior design business this year because people are so crazy, demanding, and unreasonable. I think since Covid there has been a very bad shift in peoples attitudes, toward goods and services and life in general.
Unfortunately some people are never satisfied. If you can resolve an issue great, if not move on, stuff happens when on all types of vacations we just have to adapt. Cup half empty kinda folks!
Have you taken a merchant cruise? I did over 60 years ago. It was from Anchorage Alaska to Portland Oregon. I'm 77. The captain declared me off limits. I had a ball. I saw most parts of the ship. I ate with the officers. Sang off key with the crew and did a lot of reading. After that I had no expectation from a cruise. I recommend everyone try it.
Mostly agree with you Don, however, one item I take issue with. One bad experience CAN cause you to exclude one cruise line from your future cruises. There are so many cruise lines that you can always use others than the one you had a bad experience on. I was on MSC a couple of years ago.... Poor food, terrible customer service, bad situation on a shore excursion (took my mother in a wheelchair on a "wheelchair-accessible" excursion, only to find it was absolutely not and we had to sit in one spot in Ostuni and let the rest of the tour go on until they returned- no refund, not nothing from MSC- and an MSC rep happened to be on the tour). Not everything was bad on MSC- good steward, bartenders, ship was ok (but crowded). In the end, I will never go on MSC again, instead will go on NCL, Carnival, RCCL, Princess, Celebrity, etc.
My wife and I sailed on Icon of the Seas in April and comparing it to jail is just crazy. For the amount of people on this ship everything was ran smoother than we have ever experienced. We have been on 23 cruises. People are just soooo wrong about Icon.
We used to joke about this in the Navy. Sea duty is like jail, with the added bonus that you might drown ... or get eaten by sharks. It's not really true, but it is funny.
Some of these people are intitled to the point of they need to take a seat in the back room and lock the door. I sailed on ICON last September in a balcony cabin and had no issues with the room nor did we have any issues on the 7 day cruise. The staff was Excellent, no issues....
I have to admit, even though we enjoyed our cruise on Icon, we did have an issue with our balcony room squeaking and creaking to a point that it made it diff to sleep. This happened for 4 nights when the seas were a bit rough. RCCL did compensate us some, but I would’ve preferred to be able to sleep well.
@ this was much more than the normal sounds and noises you usually hear. Most of the time it sounded like metal binding and being released. The technicians who came to address the issue told us this is a widespread issue around the ship and RCCL is aware of the problem and they are making sure that Star of the seas doesn’t have this same issue.
Well, I can honestly tell you, I would prefer the cruise ship over a jail cell. Any day been in both and I have always had a great time on a cruise ship. And never had any fun in a jail cell. But I will say a few times the food was better in the jail than the cruise ship.
Don’t know what platform to ask on, so here it goes. Booked on MSC Seascape January 4th. Saw a $236 price drop. Called them. They said that since I booked through a TA that I would have to go through her. Called my TA and she called them. They said that since I booked final payment had been made there was nothing that they could do. Question is, if I go to guest services as soon as I get on the ship, do you think they would compensate me in any way?
@3:30 I wish I could post screen shots, but right now (Noon CST, Dec 22) cabins on _Icon_ start at 1500. There's _at least_ have a dozen sailings at that price. So, this guy did overpay about a couple hundred bucks a person.
It comes down to personal taste really. For me it's glitzy, overcooked. Perhaps that appeals to a lot of people. I prefer something with a little understand elegance.
No is more critical than myself. I've been on the ship in March. I hope to go again soon. Those people deserve jail. Ungrateful. Royal Caribbean is the best and they try to work with you and make your trip special. I always tell everyone about Royal.
That's still too much for an interior room with no extra perks. 1775 can get you so much more on other ships. You can even get in MSCs Yacht Club for that price.
@@niuhuskieguybut is the MSC ship as nice as the icon? I found a decent price for the icon $1400 and I want to book a nice cruise for my birthday in 3 weeks and I heard icon is the best. What do you think?
Y family was on that ship and had a wonderful experience. The food was wonderful the customer service was wonderful. The ship is beautiful.. the people complaining need to stay their happy butts home!
If those folks that complained about RC and decided to never sail with them, that sounds like a win/win to me. The crew won’t have to deal with them and neither will the other passengers 🎉
We just returned from 14 days on the Icon of the Seas. It is a beautiful ship, the service was superb, the food was great, Guest Services were very helpful. Although there was nearly 7,000 passengers, it did not feel crowded except when there was a parade or event in the Royal Promenade. We were very impressed with the entire experience. We booked the back to back cruise 2 years in advance at the Next Cruise desk after bookings had just been released. We paid $1660 per person for an ocean view balcony. It is difficult to believe the experiences that were reported.
We were on the ICON this past May (2024). The only problem we saw was that EVERY SHOW boiled down to "Half Time at the Super Bowl" dancing. All of them, except the ice show and the comedy show. Even The Wizzard of Oz had "Dancing Like Half Time at the Super Bowl" throughout it. (Is nothing sacred?) These shows were VERY loud. So loud that you could not understand the words to the songs they were singing. You basically saw the SAME dancing, same exact shows, just in different venues. Hugely disappointing.
If they paid for a suite but had to be moved because their balcony doors couldn’t be fixed, then I would expect the cruise line to refund the difference between the suite price, and the cabin they were moved to. If they weren’t then I think their unhappiness is justified.
My family did the seven day western itinerary and we loved it. There wasn't a single person in my group of eight people. That did not thoroughly love that ship and all it that had to offer.
Royal resolved the first issue with the door. Being on the Icon is Awesome, the food and entertainment is top notch. Some people will never be happy no matter what.
I always love "I'm never going again" after one 'bad' experience. It reminds me of people on the border shows where they get caught with a peach and the agents takes his peach away. It shows the "Stupid rules, I'm never coming back here." Because of a peach?
The comment I am wondering about is the 'door' comment. I wish they had mentioned to WHERE they were moved to. If it was to a comparable suite I agree with you Don. However, if it was to a less expensive room then I could see why the couple would want a better comp.
You just can't make some people happy. But, we were just on the Wonder a couple of weeks ago, and I agree that the monster ships ARE very crowded, and they just feel overwhelming to us. We much prefer the smaller ships because the ambiance just feels better, and it's easier to get around on them. My favorite ship classes are the old Vision and Radiance classes. They feel more intimate and just much more pleasant to us. Granted, we are older and we don't use the slides, water parks, etc, on the huge ships. We just like to relax, and it's easier to do that on the smaller ships. My favorite cruise was a "SE Caribbean Island Hopper" cruise out of Barbados a couple of years ago on the Rhapsody - an older Vision class ship. We sailed to several smaller islands that the huge new ships can't go to, and we met some wonderful people from England, Ireland, Scotland, and Canada. We saw each of them every day and really got to know them by hearing them talk about their lives. It seemed like we were among friends. I even got to know the bartenders at the pool bar, and a Russian guy made me "Russian style" Old Fashioneds every day. It was like going to a neighborhood bar... he would see me approaching and start making my drink. That was nice! I have never had that friendly feeling on the bigger ships - they just seem very impersonal to me.
The reality is RCCL is not the best product out there. I've been on 59 cruises and the 3 on Royal all rank near the bottom. Oddly, RCCL also owns Celebrity which is one of my favourites, especially the new Edge class.
Anyone saying it's worse than jail has never ever been to jail...
Agree.
Carnival cruises is the destination after sentence is served.
@fitfrog65 🤣
Maybe that viewer WAS in jail.
I said that. Put the person in jail for the same amount of time they were on the cruise and, when they come out ask them how it compared.
Ive sat in too many restaurants and watched people eat almost an entire meal without complaint only to tell their waiter their meal was subpar and ask for their money back. Some people will complain about anything and then get mad when they aren't refunded.

I often tell the wait staff I didn’t like my meal even though there’s nothing on my plate. But I use a very sarcastic tone and look when I do it.😂😂😂
I work for a Jail, and I promise you, I wouldn’t want to spend 7 minutes there involuntarily. There’s not even a single similarity to the absolute worst cruise that I’ve been on. I have never been on Icon but I know it’s nothing like the County Jail.
Just off the Icon. Beautiful ship with a top notch crew! Never felt the ship was too crowded which amazed me.

If they had run into the hurricane they would have screamed their heads off about how could the captain endanger them
There is always something to complaint about. Thanks Don. we love cruising.
Too all about me for sure. I’ve noticed that some people have a mindset when on a cruise that the rules of regular life don’t apply. They want to be served and pampered to the point where polite etiquette goes out the window.
Some people are so lucky that cruising is a a step down in life, apparently.
So true…must be nice.

Great video Don! Well done As always
" I would be robbing a bank tomorrow. " LOL Right 20 years of a free cruise. Just to be clear we are both kidding.
Been on several Royal Caribbean ships and we love it and enjoyed our sailings. Saving for ICON 😊 hopefully our next ship!

I laugh when people casually state their willingness to go to jail. They have no idea.
I just spent 2100 for a 12 day cruise on norwegian pearl aruba cruise out of miami I leave march 31 2025

We were on the ICON this May 2024. We wanted to book it again for May 2025.
Same room. Interior room.
THE PRICE QUOTED WAS DOUBLE.
What were the two prices?
Ya just can’t please all people, great vid!
The problem with Royal Caribbean ships is they always got there hands out . Nickel and dime in you . And I’ve sailed over 70 of them
I think they were trying to get a free trip. I've sailed many times with Royal and each trip is different even if it's the same ship.
No way that is a real honest review. That's like $350 a day insanely cheap. The only thing that's ever negatively effected my cruise is weather which no one can control
was on the Icon in July and enjoy every minute of it. if that's like a jail a would be glad to serve time on it.
I am a diamond on Carnival,, I have been on two Royal Caribbean cruises. They were both fabulous. The icon of the seas is not a jail. It’s a paradise, never felt crowded, and the food was great. These people are full of horse 💩
The Hurricane, even though far away, could be causing larger swells at the ports, which makes docking impractical. They know what they're doing.
People are crazy. I retired from my interior design business this year because people are so crazy, demanding, and unreasonable. I think since Covid there has been a very bad shift in peoples attitudes, toward goods and services and life in general.

Under $2000 I would not be complaining about the Icon. You can't please these type of people. 7 days of bad food and only limited yard time, right...
People are discovering there are less expensive, more enjoyable options. No need to follow the herd with the cruising craze (which is subsiding).
Have you taken a merchant cruise? I did over 60 years ago. It was from Anchorage Alaska to Portland Oregon. I'm 77. The captain declared me off limits. I had a ball. I saw most parts of the ship. I sailed on the Icon in September as a single cruiser and only payed 2100 US dollars for 7 days
Yes I think that person has the per person rate, which makes it more believable.
Keep up the good work!
Don't they all squeak and creak during rough seas? I can't believe they compensated you anything.
Geeze! All that entitlement. Some people just don't realize that the effect from a hurricane can be felt over 1000 miles from the eye.
Some people cant be pleased with anything!
I just looked and a 7 day cruise on 2/1/25 for an inside cabin on the Icon is $1717. But that said it is TOO BIG for me.
Well, I can honestly tell you, I would prefer the cruise ship over a jail cell. Any day been in both and I have always had a great time on a cruise ship. And never had any fun in a jail cell. But I will say a few times the food was better in the jail than the cruise ship.
We’ve sailed on it twice, and have had *NO* issues whatsoever so ever… We’re planning on going August 2025, can’t wait..
Have a merry Christmas Don
Its time we realize that some people are not happy unless they can complain about things! They need to be ignored.
When rccl opened pricing to c&a members 2 yrs ago, yes that was the pricing.
@3:30 I wish I could post screen shots, but right now (Noon CST, Dec 22) cabins on _Icon_ start at 1500. There's _at least_ have a dozen sailings at that price. So, this guy did overpay about a couple hundred bucks a person.
Is the $1,500 based on double occupancy? Are there prices listed for a single cabin?
@@deej9697It's always pp double occ
We went last Feb and going again on Feb 1 and it’s amazing. The only knock I have is the tv channels in the room.
It comes down to personal taste really. For me it's glitzy, overcooked. Perhaps that appeals to a lot of people. I prefer something with a little understand elegance.
$1700 cruise on this class of ship has to be an interior cabin. But obviously that is the price on the RC website and not the final price.
It sounds like Don fit right into that cruise. 😅
No is more critical than myself. I've been on the ship in March. I hope to go again soon. Those people deserve jail. Ungrateful. Royal Caribbean is the best and they try to work with you and make your trip special. I always tell everyone about Royal.
Icon was stunning. And staff, amenities were great.
Food was at or above average.
We had great time.
Sailed last month
$1775 pp for Icon of the Seas for a 7 day cruise is easily done. Just took a look and inside Guarantee 7 day For March 8th is $1738/pp
That's still too much for an interior room with no extra perks. 1775 can get you so much more on other ships. You can even get in MSCs Yacht Club for that price.
They were in a balcony suite
@@niuhuskieguybut is the MSC ship as nice as the icon? I found a decent price for the icon $1400 and I want to book a nice cruise for my birthday in 3 weeks and I heard icon is the best. What do you think?
@@massiahofLAtry celebrity it’s far superior
@@jeffreyantell7117 hmm thanks for the recommendation 👍🏽
These people are probably employees of other cruise lines. Loved every minute of it!
Miss'd ya, love your channel.
It’s called CHECKING THE WEATHER folks!
🙄🤦🏼♀️
If you don’t want to get interrupted by a Hurricane, DO NOT CRUISE DURING HURRICANE SEASON!
😉👍🏽
Whoever states that they paid $1000 to ride the Icon isn't being truthful, they more than likely haven't been on the ship.
I loved it! Can’t wait to go back. If these people don’t like it then stay away
As we age we go for the smaller ships. 😊
We are sailing on Oceania tomorrow out of Miami…let me tell you our price is no where near what this guy paid….you get what you pay for
I have not been on the icon yet someday maybe mostly I sail out of Galveston so I’m pretty limited right now
We were on the ICON this past May (2024). The only problem we saw was that EVERY SHOW boiled down to "Half Time at the Super Bowl" dancing. All of them, except the ice show and the comedy show.
Even The Wizzard of Oz had "Dancing Like Half Time at the Super Bowl" throughout it. (Is nothing sacred?)
These shows were VERY loud.
Some people are just not satisfied with anything. The more you give them the more they want.
It's a beautiful ship. Only one complaint is getting to the ice rink. Other then that love it. We did her very first sailing.
My friend and i did travel in april for that price on a group tour and we even do the turnaround
Loved icon but will return to oasis class until pricing drops. Food was incredible. Wizard of Oz is a must see.
We loved Icon - no issues - Put the guy who said they'd rather be in jail in with "Bubba the Boy Banger", then see which he'd prefer.
That price quote made laugh out loud.
