    I always find it fascinating that the ex-military individuals who are the epitome of “dangerous” tend to have the most minimalist firearm setups! Makes me rethink a lot of what I have been lugging around in my own EDC rotation.

    22WMR is under appreciated imo. It has its place and there have been people killed with 22LR. So 22WMR, 7 shots, IF there’s a failure to discharge the cylinder just turns over and you have another round ready to go. Built in safety with heavy trigger pull, super light weight and concealable. I like it.

    • @taasch2505
      @taasch2505 2 года назад +4

      While true I prefer a fatter, heavier round. .38 specials hardly kick at all and are centerfire and that makes them more reliable. A .32 long wadcutter does really good too, especially Buffalo bore wadcutters. I prefer .38 +p loadings of good jhp while .357 is just a little much for me in a snubby.

It is a Taurus 856 Defender with 3" barrel. It hits right where I aim it. You are right with a 22 round too. I know I can hit any intruder to stop the attack. I didn't spend 30 yrs in the Navy and not learn that. My Wife carries a S&W 22 with 8 rounds and is very deadly with it. I just subscribed to you and look forward to more. Thanks! Very useful post! Thank you. I have a Mika holster for my 642. It's superb! There is an internal stiffener material around the barrel end which obviates the problem you point out where pocket holsters often close up. My Mika does not close up, neither is it stiff. Also, it has a grippy exterior that keeps it in the pocket when the gun is drawn.

The 19x has 3 20rd mags, I drill malfs, fumbles and brain fade. I used to carry a P35 back in the early 80's. Mr. Wilson solved the mag disconnect for mine and Improved the trigger in the process. I carry the 38 special LCR for years every day. The hardest part to carrying is it set up so it's convenient, comfortable, and safe. The back, 3 o'clock carry, or inside the waist is uncomfortable when driving. My favorite is cross draw with a leather belt holster under the shirt. The inside the pocket is good but not for me because I carry my wallet there and always reaching. But comfort is the key, or you won't have it with you when you need it.

Better to have a small caliber, easy to use weapon in your pocket at all times. At close contact engagements the small caliber will be fine.

  • @Predalien195
    @Predalien195 2 года назад +6

    One aspect of self defense that's often overlooked is the goal should not always be to kill the other person. It should be to end the threat. Be that because they do get killed, you run away, and etc. And yes, most every gun regardless of caliber will get you out of a sticky situation as such. That said, .22 Magnum even in snub nose barrels penetrates pretty deep. Deep enough to reliably hit vitals where as .22 LR doesn't usually in such short barrels.
    I tend to opt for .32 caliber revolvers because they allow for an extra round over the typical .38's and offer more power than the .22's while still being low recoil and effective. I have to agree that if I find myself in a scenario where I believe I'm more at risk, I will carry something with more rounds purely for that reason but otherwise I keep it to a minimum typically.
    I see so many online posts and suggestions about brining "X", "Y", and "Z" and it just screams to me that they are carrying too much crap. Or they have to wear certain clothes to do so easily and it too to me just screams out they are carrying. I work around guns for a living so seeing them doesn't bother me but I can always tell more often than not who has a gun on them where I go often based on what they are wearing alone.
    So it's nice to see when somebody says "Here's a few small essential things, but otherwise if you're not expecting a threat there's not much need to go beyond this".

    • @Wastelandman7000
      @Wastelandman7000 Год назад +1

      I think the real reason the .22lr has the reputation it does is how erratic it is once it enters the body. A friend of mine's dad was a highway patrolman. He told me of a man getting shot in the leg with a .22lr accidentally and it wound up lodged next to his heart. Its wound channel is not very consistent and that means even correct bullet placement may not get the job done..22wmr is way more consistent.

    I had a " chat" with a noob(Google gun guru)
    about revolvers for beginners. His reply was that I suggested an" antique " for carry.
    Showed his ignorance. I feel very comfortable with a model 85 or 66 or Dan Wesson 15 in 4 inch.
    I've carried and qualified for a federal agency with a 686. So I don't feel outgunned or antiquated.

    Snubbies are very good for contact distance. A semi can be pressed out of battery but a revolver works while being pressed against the threat.

    Hit it straight on the head. I think too many get caught up on what the general consensus for a great carry is versus what’s actually best for THEM. What works for me may not work best for you. But then again, something like EDC is much like how we configure our kit. You’ll never know what works and what doesn’t unless you train with it and work with it everyday.

    Liked this video. I would go for the 22 mag. I think most people would be beeter off with it. You want a gun you can shoot with one hand. And through your coat or a purse. Most action, the deadly part, lasts only 7 to 9 seconds. In close combat, never use the sights. Point and shoot. Don't raise the gun above chest height. You don't want tunnel vision. You want to do an eye sweep for other assailants. Numerous times I have had to deal with two, three, & sometimes 4 assailants. I was a target of numerous hit attempts because I was a whistleblower against a defense contractor and had screwed up a 40 billion dollar contract for AF tankers. Usually I carry a deringer, sometimes a 38 snub nose. For a semi auto I use a low caliber. For most incidents I use a chemical weapon first. When I use a gun I never use a sight. Point & shoot. That' why I am stll alive. The guy who shoots first usually comes ou ahead. Both on the battlefield and on the street. It' a good video for helping an inexperienced person how to choose a handgun. Don't carry to expensive a gun as you might need to get rid of it after using it. This is an important consideration.

    About 10 years ago I was trying to buy a lightweight stainless steel .357 snub nose revolver at a gun show. The vendor I was talking to showed me the difference between the S&W airweight in 38 +P and the .357 stainless version. He point out the substantial weight difference and made the observation of which would I rather have, the S&W airweight in my pocket or the .357 sitting at home because it was too heavy to pocket carry.
    I purchased a S&W 637 in 38 +P and I carry it every day and no one has a clue that I have my pistol in my back pocket. My Glock's and Ruger's sit home collecting dust while the compact snub nose is my constant companion. My most recent concealed carry instructor poo poo'd my choice of carry gun until we got to the range and she saw what I could do with my wee wheel gun.
    The only good concealed carry gun is the one you'll carry with you all the time. The caliber choice discussion is a moot point in my opinion. Learn to shoot what your aiming at. A .22 mag in the forehead will ruin the day of 99.9999% of the criminals I'm familiar with, and the 38+P with JHP ammo is plenty deadly at 12 feet distance.

    I’m sure a lot of people are going to look down on his options he has, and he’s “assumption” about threat level. I have no idea who this guy is, to be honest this is the first time I’m ever seeing this channel so take this for what that’s worth. However, I have lived my life under the philosophy of don’t go to stupid places, with stupid people, doing stupid things and I grew up hearing my mother tell me “bad things happen after midnight” lol is that true? I have no idea but I don’t go to places where there are known dangers for lack of a better word. We all have those places in our towns that everyone knows as “that” place, so I chose not to go there and I chose to mitigate risk and asses dangers before I’m there. Preparedness goes beyond being prepared in the middle of the situation. So I applaud this video, looks like you’ve got another sub.

    Having carried a .38 spl revolver for my duty issue in the 1980’s I much prefer a semi automatic pistol. We used safari land speed loaders which are much better and faster than stripper clips but they are a little bulky. A spare magazine on the other hand lays flat as you point out. I prefer nothing less than 9mm, preferably my.357 sigs when going to town. Even out here in flyover country we are having crazy people shooting up gas stations and Walmart in the middle of the day over stupid stuff. God forbid I have to shoot someone, I want them to stop coming after me quickly. I appreciate the video and discussion.

    I'm 52 yrs old and enjoyed the privilege of owning a Taurus 38spl snubbie, a CZ75 and a 45 M1911 over a period of 30 years. I have also used at least another 8 different firearms owned by friends and the only one I truly miss is the revolver. By far the easiest to carry, the most trouble free, the lowest "maintenance" and the quickest to get into action in a emergency. FACTS. Especially at 3am in the morning when you're shaken awake for an emergency. Every handgun has pros & cons - EVERY one - and the key issue to consider is what you are buying it for. For close range personal defence the snubbie revolver (38 / 357 / 44) is the one you should always have.........

    LMAO - "I always carry one loaded and ready to go." I would have expected no less. I have a friend who carries a GLOCK 43 having to rack on before it is ready to go. He doesn't practice. I believe he thinks having the gun makes him powerful. Me I found a SEAL who teaches in Montana. Besides absorbing your videos, I'm going to him for training. Thank you. I really enjoy your videos.

    I carry OTW and prefer full size barrel. CZ 75, 17 +1 9mm. I'm a pretty large man, and actually like the weight of the sidearm. I prefer OTW, quicker access and just more comfortable. With my set-up, I can barely tell it is there. I would like to eventually get a .22 mag. I am a huge fan of .22 mag and .22 lr

      Check out the S&W 43c j frame. 8 rounds .22lr. Super light weight. In an ankle holster (Galco Ankle Glove) it's very easy and fast to draw if you are sitting in your vehicle. Plus the 22lr won't be as bad on your hearing in a confined space.

    In addition to using the Sig-365 for EDC. You can practice your shooting at IDPA shooting competitions. The Sig-365 can actually be used in three catagories. Back Up Gun (BUG), Compact Carry Pistol (CCP), and, Stock Service Pistol (SSP).
    There are size limitations for each catagory. For the BUG division you must use the 10-round, flat base magazine to test fit the pistol in the BUG size test fit box. The CCP catagory you must use the 10-round finger tab magazine. Must be able to put the gun in the CCP test fit box. Then you can use the 12 round magazine, with extension, for the SSP division. No test fit box required.
    There are round count limitations. Six rounds only for BUG, or the maximum capacity of the gun. Thus five rounds for the J frame revolvers. Six rounds for CCP, or, maximum capacity of the gun. Ten rounds for SSP division. You may carry a "Barney mag" to load the chamber at the start of the stage. Then replace the Barney mag with a magazine with a full ten rounds.
