    Care tips
    Clean every morning and nightOnly use baby wipes or soap and water ( no harsh cleaners near the catheter site and no alcohol because it irritates the skin)
    I use gauze around the catheter site every day to keep it clean then remove it at night but use a wipe after removing it. I use a precut antimicrobial gauze pad. If I don't have an antimicrobial gauze I use a regular precut gauze with a small about of neosporin on the gauze around the catheter. This helps with limiting irritation and infections.
    Catheter gets discolored at the site entry and inside the bladder
    Flush the catheter every other day. Some need everyday or even multiple times a day.
    I change mine every 3 weeks. I've met people that change it anywhere from every other week to every 3-4 months. You can use silicone longer than latex but for me the silicone is too ridgid and causes AD. Too long will make me bleed.
    Site can become red and irritated. Even get infections at the site. Skin ulcers.
    Good option for a quad. More independence
    Weight can be an issue.
    No issues for sex.

    Sup, bro? Thanks for this, definitely needed it. I've had so many infections this year. I drink A SHIT LOAD of water. Drink green tea and take a cranberry tablet at night. Don't drink alcohol. Started using baby wipes after seeing one of your previous videos yet I've still been having them. Ended up in hospital after a nurse couldn't get my catheter out because I was spasming and it was grabbing onto the catheter and I got really bad autonomic dysreflexia. Been in a really shitty depressed headspace most of the year as a result. Bypassing urine, spasms and feeling like shit, can't spend time with my daughter or wife like I should/want. Anyhoo, that's my life story. haha. Thanks again, dude.

      What's up Josh! Sorry to hear you're having a lot of issues and hope everything gets figured out soon. I have had issues with the catheter getting clinched by my bladder spasms and not coming out. Do you take ditropan or myribetriq for bladder spasms?
      I have a rough time every catheter change which I happen to have later today..I always bypass urine and get AD the whole day off the change. Taking a shower send to help me..I think the hot water or something but it always seems to help my urine leaking.

    We got ZERO information about super pubic care and husband became septic with esbl in one week. In fact, we went in earlier in the day and they sent us home. Later that day, ER. Still no info on what to do for care after a 3 wk hospital stay and major pic line antibiotics. He has a continuous open wound around the super pubic and they offered ZERO info to husband when he went in today. He asked no questions. Grrr. I did not accompany him because I was sick and running a fever. Thank you for your information. I know now to call them and get more info and see about ordering monthly supplies through insurance.

    Love your honesty. I do pretty much the same as possible drone the female side. I clean every day with baby wipes and use peroxide when there is a lot of crud. I have a small hand fan I use when the area is a bit wetter than others and that has helped a lot. The woven gauze with all the loose threads is a real nuisance! Nasty threads get stuck in goo and really does not want to come out. I get more crud at the end of my 3 week changing cycle than any other time. On the whole though with the Supra bupic things are so much better.

    • @LiveToRoll
      @LiveToRoll  3 года назад

      Thanks for sharing the female perspective and that's interesting about the moisture.. great tip for women out there. Yes that's exactly the issue with that gauze and it sucks! I get the same with a little extra crud after having it a couple weeks.. But it is a better option for most quads.
      It's great hearing from you and hope you're doing well!

    Hi Shaun. Another great video from live to roll.
    Do you know the reason why you have ad and wet yourself when you do a catheter change.
    The reason I ask is that I had my spc procedure done on 3 nov and had my 1st catheter change yesterday. I experienced the same issues that you described when you do a catheter change.

    • @LiveToRoll
      @LiveToRoll  3 года назад +1

      Thank you! I think the reason is just shock on the bladder but I'm not a doctor so I can't say for sure. I know a lot of people who have a SP and deal with the same issues. There a few ways to help it like a shower after, I also take extra D-mannose before and after the change but nothing fully makes it better. I just have to wait the first 24 hours out then it's typically ok.

      I will put that on my website but I use a Bard catheter. 24f with a 10ml balloon. Like I said in the video I only use latex. No silicone. I have tried another brand catheter that was 24f with the 10-ml balloon and it actually did work fine but the Bard catheter is what I consistently use.

    • @LiveToRoll

      Hi there!
      I did try using condom catheters early on in my injury, but they didn't work for me back at the time. I had thought of trying them again a few years ago.
      I'm now married, and my wife changes my suprapubic at home and then gets me in the shower, and it has pretty much stopped leaks on the day of my change. I also make sure to use bags with the anti reflux chamber as they seem to not put pressure on my bladder as well. I do keep male urinary guards on hand for just in case.
      I really appreciate you taking the time to suggest this. An open discussion with advice helps everyone.
      Hope all is going well for you. :)

      Hey I'm sorry for the late reply! I hope everything went well with your mother's suprapubic catheter. I actually get my supplies from a home health agency that changes my catheter. If you need to buy them you might need a prescription from her doctor for a few things like the gauze and saline. The bags you can buy online at most medical supply websites and the syringes to flush you can get on Amazon. • @LiveToRoll
      @LiveToRoll  3 года назад +1

      Hey Matt yeah I'm sure it's hard cathing that often during the day especially with limited hand function. The suprapubic is a good option for quads with limited hand function and can give more independence. It definitely has pros and cons but it's not too bad an option. I'm not sure about the feeling though if you have full sensation since my sensation is lower. It can cause discomfort when it's changed so I'd talk to you doctor and see. The other con is having a bag on all the time and the catheter but you get used to it pretty quick. The main thing I really don't know about is your sensation level and how much discomfort you'd be in but the procedure is pretty simple and done in a day plus you can remove it anytime and it will heal back to normal. Hope that helps a little but definitely talk to your doctor/urologist to decide what's best.
