I've been asked how much my monthly pension is. My answer is always "I have enough to put a roof over our heads and food on the table". Sometimes I'll add that we need to find a cheaper place to live for added effect. I also keep small sums of cash in different pockets. No need to pull out a big roll of money for eyes to see.

If I had a girlfriend who took any money that I left for a tip she would not be my girlfriend anymore. When she does that she is showing her true character and not the kind of person I want to be around.

Flaunting wealth in a low-income area is rude, but it's important to not shame our Filipino families. Going out of our way to look poor would be disrespectful of the plight of the truly poor. There is a broad cultural expectation of an appropriate living standard for a family with a foreigner in the house. It doesn't have to be extravagant, but the family should not look poor in the basic needs of food, clothing, comfortable furniture and pleasing decor, educational materials and reliable internet. Visitors who may find it hard to keep up the basics at home can then enjoy them during their visits, benefitting from the foreigner's means presented in a lowkey way, in his own house, not broadcast across the town.

It's not just about the Phiippines or personal safety. It's about being a real man. Real men don't brag because it's a sign of weakness. The weakest man in the room is easy to spot. He's always the one who is talking about himself. A confident man doesn't care what you think of him. Good video.

I find the Philippines to be a lot different when it comes to people asking personal questions about your finances,
That's something that doesn't happen in my country my family and friends don't know how much salary or savings i have it does depend on your family and the friends you have.
Even if you have been married for years and you have some funds in a high interest savings account if you had the money before you met your wife its best to keep that to yourself any marriage can turn sour.
Telling everything about your finances can also turn you into a target not necessarily from the girl but a family member or distanced relative might think they will have access to some of the money if you were out of the way.

For instance who are the most successful Filipino vloggers ..the wealthy Filipino celebrities, there’s no problem with having a nice car or indeed wearing nice clothes. How do you think that you get a high value Filipina ..professionals, educated, they are not shopping in the ukay ukay shops. From time to time, i will buy top of the line things if quality and value matters. I tend to wear old things and repair them because I like the idea that I'm milking my money's worth to the last drop. If I am going or meeting people upscale, then I will dress and look the part bec you get better treatment if you look distinguished and sophisticated than if you look like a bum. The height of power and success is to walk into an upscale establishment in shorts and slippers while everyone is dressed up and you don't and everyone doesnt bat an eye out of respect because you're a big deal and can do as you please and they all know it.

If someone asks me for money, I ask what they are going to do with it. if its for my neighbours daughter or sons fare to go to school, Or for school supplies, No problem, If i Have the money. I will help someone on occasion, but not support them. My G Fs Family has never asked me for anything. If I see that they are out of Medicine I will buy it. Sometimes her family will even try to hide the fact that they are in need of something. If I bragged about how much money I have or wore Gold chains or expensive clothes, You can be sure a lot of people would be trying to figure out how to get the money from my hands the theirs.

Steve I agree with your thoughts in principal. You are in a culture that has no social security. You are also in a culture that thinks even an Expat that gets $ 1500 a month is rich by Philippine standards. I would not bother explaining to people why I can not give them money I do not have. They are not going to stop asking and why should they? If they feel I have nothing to lose by asking. My money my choice.

Hey Steve, thanks for another great vlog subject. If you do decide to get one of those refurbished Suzuki vans, it would be great to do a vlog on the process. I also would like to get one of those refurbished vans, but don’t know a reliable place to go. There are many on FB that advertise, but just don’t know how to find one that won’t rip u off……thanks and that would be really helpful…….👍👍👍

With the tip, you don't have to leave it in the table. Place the tip directly in their hand. Your girlfriend will be pissed but who cares. It's your money to spend how you see fit and really none of her business. That's why you don't get married as it then becomes her business.
