      @@Self-replicating_whatnot not really rare - just needs very specific evironment - enclosed area with enough saturation of such fine particles - all that said the one sack they used - I highly doubt would actually be enough - then again - anime logic = screw the rules. dust explosions - which is what this is - are a fairly frequent hazzard in coal mines and grain elevators - apparently - yes i did a search to make sure of which i speak. also this principle is used in thermobaric weapons - basically the real danger is the force of the explosion - the shockwave if you will. so even for a D&D campaign - it's a usable theory - but frankly I don't see any GM realistically being bothered to figure out what would need to go into it for it to work - and probably just fudging it - if they even allow it lol.

    You have no idea how easy these explosions can happen to grain silos. a fraction of a centimeter of settled dust is all the fuel needed to combust an enclosed area if it gets kicked up, imagine a silo being rapidly filled with grain. All it needs is to burst the silo and scatter the rest of the fine particles into the air to create a runaway wave of fire. It's a real hazard in rural Tennessee, you definitely don't need a fireball anywhere near your dry crop field, hay bales, and your wooden farmhouse filled with drying tobacco leaves. This is one of the reasons why you see random firefighter stations in the middle of nowhere in the rural acres. Needless to say, that explosion isn't a theatric exaggeration, that is what could really happen.

    • @Talinoth
      @Talinoth 3 года назад +41

      @@ExtremerSurfer An exaggeration, but not as much as you think.
      What he released there was over a day's worth of food. If your daily kilojoule consumption was released all at once, in a single explosion (and a RAPID one at that, due to how fine and small the flour particles are!), it'd be an immense amount of power.
      An M67 fragmentation grenade releases last I checked roughly a million joules, or 1000 kJ of energy. Your daily calorie consumption is 8700 kJ. For sake of easy reference, let's just say you eat 8 hand grenades of energy a day.
      Now I don't know the conversion to energy ratio for flour, but flour does contain 2418 kJ per kg. If GS has 5kg of flour there, that's 12,090 kJ - 12 grenades of energy, in a sealed space.
      People sealed in rooms with a single M67 grenade going off don't tend to survive unless they get really lucky, what more 12 of them.

    Ok, so let me get this straight... The meta story so far: Goblin slayer D&D is a long-standing, solo, creative, and extremely improvised campaign until an enthusiastic role playing newbie group of four joined into the same campaign as GS. The DM (who has been gradually making her goblin raids harder to ensure GS is still given challenges when he comes over) tries informs the new group that goblins are no joke and tries to stall until GS gets to the store for his daily session... but they skip all preparations and go anyways. They walk in and have a bad time by the time GS comes in and his character can only save one of theirs. Time passes as the two level up on quests and the others spend the next session making new characters and they agree to start out at the same level as GS and also decide to become: elf, dwarf, and lizard. Now that they are a higher level, the DM can keep playing her higher difficulty goblin nests and everyone has a blast. They become well known and eventually meet the sword maiden and Goblin Slayer has his best session with a Nat 20 death save and then later on with a Nat 20 charisma conversation with the maiden before he leaves like a badass. Life almost goes back to normal but then starts the BBEG phase. Next session he Nat 20’s a charisma check (which the DM would’ve let him win no matter what anyways) and convinces an entire guild to fight off the largest goblin horde that he’s ever seen. He wins but almost dies, luckily, the girl he saved in the beginning now casts protection to save his life in return. The two kill the BBEG. Life goes back to normal and he goes back to normal throwaway goblin raids while the DM works on the next big campaign...

      It's pretty much like blowing confectionery sugar at a lit candle. The finer flour particles are easier to burn if they are scattered and thanks to the air being blown, the resulting fire will be even bigger because it's being fed oxygen. In this case, a big shroud of flour in an enclosed space will easily burn and take up the air in the room to boot thanks to the spark that Beholder provided, thus resulting in a spontaneous explosion.

    • @AirahsELL
      @AirahsELL 4 года назад +22

    For everyone saying "Beholder! Beholder!"... it's not a Beholder, GS plan wouldn't work with the actual Beholder, as the rays they use aren't fire based, it outright has desintegration rays or "Avadakedabra" kind of rays... and those aren't even the UNFAIR rays...
    It would work to grant some sort of non-magical concealment, which the Beholder can't break with his big central eye (that works as an antimagic cone).
    If they went with just using some kind of explosion, like using the flour and then start a timed fire somehow... Beholders are actually REALLY smart, and they can move things with telekinesis... it would be able to use a big furniture as a shield against the explosion.
    They are not invinsible... at a long range, they are kind of weak... that's why they live underground, on very enclosed spaces... and use minions.
