Natural Hair Big Chop - A 3 Year Journey

- After several years of contemplating going natural I finally took the plunge on 7-7-08; I had no fears, no worries, told my husband that I was finally ready and he chopped off all of my permed hair. It felt as though a load had been lifted off my shoulders; the first 2.5 years I wore it very short (almost military-like) and I loved it because spending less time worrying about my hair allowed me more time to focus on my studies. Now that I'm done with that chapter of my life I can focus more on the healthy growth of my natural hair. Personally it has been more of a challenge maintaing natural hair vs. permed hair but as they say practice becomes perfect and furthermore I'm loving my NaTuRaL hAiR :)

I'm glad you shared your experience. It makes me feel glad to be going natural and seeking the real me. The way God made me not how society say I should be.

You are TRULY beautiful!! I think us as African Queens should embrace our natural unrelaxed hair !! I just FINALLY chopped off all of my damaged hair due to the "creamy crack" horror stories that I've encountered over the years! It truly takes a strong woman to let go of this thing called "hair" and truly embrace our natural selves !!!! Again, you are absolutely stunning !!!!!! So beautiful! your Africanized look is amazing! I loved my Africanized look soo much, I never went back. LOL ... I fully embrace my tribal look with my crown/head completely revealed, and am so grateful that as tribal people, we have a multitude of tribal beauty we can choose from. the beauty that tribal angels can release is endless. I have found that whether it's no-hair, all the way to much-hair ... we rock the world of variety-n-artistry when it comes to hairstyles and or "HEAD style!" LOL ... I have no idea why I'm not able to respond to so many comments that people took the time to share or why I did not see most of them in my inbox, but I truly appreciate all the kind words of encouragement. I enjoy being natural and as frustrated as I may get from time to time with my natural hair, it is far more rewarding and I have absolutely NO REGRETS about this chapter in my life. Thanks naturallyblackfuI:) I guess my first rule is no makeup, I’ve tried some makeup a few times in my life and never liked how unnatural it made my face feel (maybe I was doing something wrong); basically I wash my face in the shower before I go to bed & in the mornings (generally with an apricot cleanser) and I always, always moisturize with no particular brand daily moisturizer, and a dab of vaseline. I try to keep things as simple as possible, hope this helps. God Bless
