The film very much simplified the beacons, but also made them look amazing!!!

All that was said in this video is true. Denethor was more put-together at the start of The Return of the King having already lit the Beacons, and the importance of the character's downward spiral is cut out of the film. Not to mention the beacons were atop hills running through the region of Anorien, not across the tops of the White Mountains, in addition to the significance of the last Beacon at the place where the Oath of Eorl was taken. All that is true, and a shame from a lore and character perspective.
But what is the trade-off? One of the most visually and musically impressive scenes that uplifts and inspires even to this day. It marks Aragorn and Theoden's urgent and united ride forth to aid Gondor, and Pippin's first direct achievement on his own, in aid to the theme of how "even the smallest person can change the course of the future."
    Different triumphs for different mediums.

That scene was epic, but every time I watch it, I just wonder whose job it is to hike to the peaks of some of the tallest mountains in Middle-Earth every single day for work. Not exactly a very practical warning system...
In the books, the beacons just ran along the foothills

The way they're set up in the film the beacons would have to have been been permanent forts with living quarters. The trek up them would be supply trains that would likely only go up once a week or so, rather than every day.

@@stephengray1344 Seeing those peaks, I very much doubt that building anything up there could be an option, and maintaining the garrison definitely wouldn't be worth the effort.

Another thing virtually all portrayals get wrong: the _palantíri_ being too small. The smallest ones were a foot in diameter, a common size for a globe map, and much bigger than a human head. Pretty impressive for Pippin to have picked up the Orthanc-stone.
    Cases in point:
    3:05
    4:55
    5:29

Denethor was one of the bigger disappointments of the films. Doubly so, for both the way he was written, and for the terribly tragic waste of the brilliant talent of John Noble.

The film Denethor was miscast and misrepresented greatly. A man who sleeps in his armour so that "the body does not become weak" is shown as a coddled ersatz-king in costly robes and disgusting eating habits. Denethor my have personality problems and stunted emotions from his misuse of the Palantir but he was not mad as such until the end. His end atop the funeral pyre in the book is far more meaningful then the fall to death in the film.

Love your video & lore! Thanks!
p.s. The new War of the Rohirrim movie is worth going to see in theaters. ❤
(no spoiler review) As a long time anime fan i can tell you this movie is indeed EPIC & well worth watching. Go see it in the theater ASAP because it lives up to the LoTR name it carries. Its just the shock of seeing an anime version of legendary Lotr characters like HammerHand & his family is huge, but after the first few minutes you will enjoy the adventure and forget its not live action. Run dont walk to go see it, the horns of the Rohirrim are calling. ;)
p.s. Quality & Details, The sounds in this movie are simply perfection even compared to other live movies i have seen recently like gladiator2 or quiet place day one, the sounds surpass even those modern blockbusters. Hope this helps.
The frame rate cleared up after 10 minutes and then the animation was pretty great, after the choppy first few mins. I would say if you enjoyed anime Ninja scrolls or Fist of the north star, then go see The Rohirrim it was that good, & being as GREAT as those animes, to an old anime fan like me, means its better then most think. Also if you love Lord of the rings go see this ASAP on the big screen because the sound in the movie was simply perfection much better then many movies i have seen even recently. Which was shocking to me how good they made the sounds for this anime version of lotr.
So i will end this mini review with this.
The movie is well deserving of the LoTR name and it is not WOKE. It told a wonderous story of the great Helm Hammerhand & his family, and for that i am happy i went to see it. If you would like to learn more about a legend of middle earth that is done well then go see it before its gone you wont be sorry, for his legend will live on in your mind & heart for many years & is well worth enjoying with the whole family as the movie is EPIC but child safe too. Hope this helps if your on the fence, RIDE FOR ROHIRRIM! ;)

The opposite of "woke" is "asleep". I'd rather watch a movie awake...

That is to suppose that he didn't read and/or understand how they were explained in books. He did, but knew that they wouldn't have the same impact on film so he made the decision to work in a way that was best for the movies because they are a completely different medium
I am so sick of people acting like he didn't have this absolutely enormous job of adapting a seriously huge story in to only 3 films, there is no way he can include everything and also no way of adapting it exactly as it is in the books because it simply wouldn't translate as well.
Urgh, infuriating as we all know you wouldn't have this channel if it weren't for those movies!
And yes, I have read the books and love them but they themselves are adaptations of other lore and mythology!
3 years of meticulous and painstaking work where everyone dedicated everything they had to putting these films together in a way that hasn't been done before or since and all anyone can do is bi*ch and whine at how 'he didn't do it exactly the same' in the books! No sh*t, he literally couldn't!

  • @jachyra9

Why? Because Peter Jackson got everything else wrong, too. You don't want a literary adaptation that strives to sustain fidelity and respect for its source. No. You want to use a deceased author's decades of hard work as a chew toy for the express purpose of evelating your own middling career.

    • @aldrichunfaithful3589
      @aldrichunfaithful3589 19 часов назад +4

you're right that he got a lot wrong but i think you're being excessively harsh about his motives, from what i've seen he loved lotr and the whole crew were very passionate about making the films as good as possible, he just didn't understand a lot of the finer details and maybe wasn't up to the task. he was being excessively optimistic and was maybe a bit arrogant, but it was a huge (arguably impossible) task and he decided it's better to try and fail than not try at all. i'd disagree with that but a lot of people do love the films, and at the very least they did bring a lot of attention to the books

@@aldrichunfaithful3589 - "you're right that he got a lot wrong but i think you're being excessively harsh about his motives,"
Really? I was actually restraining myself.
"from what i've seen he loved lotr"
What did you see that made you believe this?
"and the whole crew were very passionate about making the films as good as possible,"
Shouldn't that be the default position of anyone engaging in that endeavor?
"but it was a huge (arguably impossible) task and he decided it's better to try and fail than not try at all."
So... if i understand correctly... it's okay for Jackson to not understand the novel he was adapting because it's better to suck at something and miserably fail at it than to have the presence of mind to not do it at all and avoid falling flat on your face. Got it.
"a lot of people do love the films"
A lot of people? How many is a lot? And why is that even important?
"and at the very least they did bring a lot of attention to the books"
Why do you believe this is important? The Lord of the Rings had sold over 150,000,000 copies and been translated into forty languages without Peter Jackson's help.

Oh please, what a terrible take. It's totally fair for anyone to hate the films and think he did a terrible job adapting the books because that's completely subjective. But to suggest that he didn't have respect for the source is as laughable as saying he got "everything else wrong."
And your response to the other comment was totally disingenuous. You only made one actual point and all the rest was just you strawmanning and asking inane questions. Also, gg liking your own comments.
