I had a lovely dress with a polka dot mesh overlay in my donate bag, because I thought it was a bit dated, and even a bit young for me. Pulled it back out, and going to team it with my boots and leather jacket - thank you!
Love your attitude! "I'm not going to do that!" Well I totally agree with you. I WILL wear what I feel good it and what I think looks flattering on me whether it is "trending" or not, and I WILL NOT wear something simply BECAUSE it's trending. I know what looks good on me and what looks silly...so I'm with you! I'm not going to do that! 😂
I’ve been wearing heavy boots with summer dresses for years, if it turns cold I add a jacket and leggings 💕 I often get compliments so think this style must suit me..love all your outfits ❤
I sew a lot of my own wardrobe, and sheer upper necklines and also sheer sleeves are totally doable (I have at least three top sewing patterns designed for using sheer fabrics.) I also think you cannot ever go wrong with monochrome and like your selections!
Thank you. :) Personally, I cannot stand slip skirts. They make me think the person is wearing a petticoat and forgotten to put on their real skirt. I must be getting old.
That was on trend several years ago. Full slips as well. Celebreties were walking around in their underwear. I saw a lady take ou ther trash in my neighborhood wearing a slip skirt. Or maybe she thought she could sneak out real quick to take out her trash and not be seen.
The leather outfits look absolutely amazing on you!!! I am 70 years old, 4’8” and love style and fashion! I experiment frequently with my clothes and enjoy discovering new and interesting ways to present myself. I rarely follow trends as they often do not flatter my particular frame. The pink trend is one I struggle with as only certain shades of pink work with my skin tone. I have pink pieces in my wardrobe and have always found they rarely ever get worn. I see pink on others and find they look just incredible; however, when I put it on….not so much. It’s just not a color I receive the most compliments on so I often avoid it. If I really want to embrace it, I may just accessorize it with a thin belt and a scarf with just a minimal amount of pink in it. The other day I was tempted to buy a pair of pink slides…carried them around the store for quite a while, then finally put them back. I want to be totally intentional and excited about a fashion choice…I just wasn’t on board. Perhaps if they were a different style and color tone of shoe then I would have went with them…..bubble gum pink just doesn’t work for me. I think a little strappy sandal with a little heel in hot pink would have been a more fun and fashion forward choice! For little size 5 feet…not exactly a whole lot of choices out there!! I love that you present fashion for mature women in such a timeless and chic way that doesn’t reflect a sense of dowdiness. I do have a couple of age related friends who are really opposed to my fashion choices and often encourage me to cut my hair and lose the Docs and other platform sneakers. Hey!..I a measly 4’8” tall…I will excitedly grab a few inches however I can!!
I have the same camouflage jeans as you have, and like you, I will continue to wear them. They are practical for the autumn. Jumpers can be worn over summer dresses and can be worn with boots too for autumn. One just has to think out of the conventional box. Incorporating some new with the old. I still fit in some classic clothes, I have from 30 years ago.
Anne Marie I’m loving your hair! Could you do a hair and beauty video ,showing how you style your hair. I do not like a straight short Bob ,yours is relaxed and really on trend.
I've been wearing my corded necklaces and other pendant necklaces all along. They suit me. Cool that I'll be "on trend" for a while! The small delicate necklaces are pretty but don't suit me. I've also been wearing belts this year, so I'm tickled to hear they might look current. They don't give me an hourglass, I have more of a slim athletic build, but I think it shows off a trim figure well. BTW, I've meant to comment on your idea of choosing a subset of your total wardrobe for a monthly capsule wardrobe. I was doing something like this but looking at it negatively as getting in a rut. Planning to do this and switching it up monthly makes dressing daily so much easier!
I’m over sixty and I’ve worn so many different fashion trends over the years that I’ve seen the same trends return more than once. I find that when I try on a style that I wore in the seventies, eighties, nineties, etc.m it just looks like I was stuck in a time warp.☹️
I understand. Somethings are simply not flattering . I try to dress to flatter my body type and honor my personality which is a sweet grandma type ( former pre school teacher).
Try being into 80 and wearing that stuff...It somehow does not translate well. I am inspired, however, to try a lot of the combinations...they are really neat!
I don't know if it's because I live in a cold climate, but I retire all summer skirts and dresses by the end of September. I simply need the extra warmth from winter fabrics in my winter dresses and skirts. The summer dresses and skirts trend in winter has been around for years and I've seen it done very well in milder climates. Simply can't do that where I live. Going the other way and wearing boots in the summer time is a big no-no as well. Too hot.
We attended a Cruise Vacation seminar where it was recommended that travelers to the Caribbean leave all cammo clothing at home. Apparently, there are islands and countries where passengers wearing cammo could be fined and returned to the ship, because only police and soldiers are allowed to wear common. Even unusual colors in common are banned.
New subscriber here. I really enjoyed this video and will be digging some vintage bits (prefer that to pieces tbh) out of my wardrobe to combine in new ways. I’m also petite and will adopt some of your styling ideas.
Thank you so much for joining the community and contributing to the conversation. The ladies here are helpful to each other and to me and I hope I'm helpful to you .
Thanks. I'm looking forward to autumn now! shopping my closet, I can make some current looking outfits, with maybe one major purchase and earrings for my birthday
I didn't do power dressing in the 80's, I'm sure not doing it now >.< That pink top really suits you. Lol I just retired my old parachute pants from the 90s. They can stay retired.
I am retired now, but studied fashion and trained as a textile designer; always tried to keep up to date, even at 70. I don't personally like sleeveless on myself, although slim, or on other older women, just doesn't look right to me. Also, think leather jackets on older women look like trying too hard to be cool. Others may disagree, but thats just me. Love the black and white look, but doesn't work so well in the countryside where I live now, so would reserve that for when I am travelling to a city. Big jewellery, well yes, as a tall woman I can take those, they are in proportion to me and little itsy bitsy things do not work on my height anyway. Loose jackets, loved those in the nineties, might try again, but a bit formal for around here again. What is the latest fashion in waterproof jackets?!
I have nice blazers from eighties.(Anne klein, Ellen tracy). I think I will get them out and wear them. I just can't get into wide leg pants they look sloppy especially on big ladies. I have long skirts from the eighties I think I will wear.
Thanks for making me laugh out loud… Fashion should be fun. The fuzzy slipper/purse analogy was hilarious. Huge oversized jackets are not for me either.
Circle skirts refer to how they are constructed. A full circle skirt will lay flat on the floor and look like a donut, with a hole for the waist in the middle. When worn it will look very full and will twirl almost up to horizontal and reveal the legs. Half circle skirts look less full. Quarter circle skirts look more like A line skirts. From what I've seen for fall 2023, the midi-length, half to full circle skirts are on trend. I love circle skirts, especially the full circle skirts, but sadly, being petite, they quickly get overwhelming on my frame. I will be rocking the trend with just below the knee, half circle skirts.
When you refer to mesh, do you mean tuille (ie: tutu material which I see is the “crinoline” beneath your flowered dress)or a stiff organdy, which is what the dress in the link looks like. I cannot tell & can sew fairly well.
I loved the slip skirt with the pink top and jacket. I have a leather look jacket in maroon that stops at my hips I would love some ideas for how to style it?😊
Unfortunately two necklaces on the neck not keen only because it's like following the trend and not been unique with jewellery just a thought but it is a personal thing I like vintage bracelets silver locket lovely
If I see someone on the street whose look I like, I will go for something similar. Couldn’t care less if it is on trend. I am like your town: don’t know and don’t want to know. I either think a look is nice, or I don’t. It is very personal for me.
Bits...?😂 You said at the beginning that the boots weren't quite right with the dress... sorry what was wrong with them? Another great video.... informative, no snobby rubbish and fun. Thank you.
Hi AnneMarie, I'm a new subscriber from GloryB.....love what you're doing for us!!!! (over 50!'s) I am only 4'11-5' -petite XS and I see all the looks for wide "stride" and destroyed jeans with rips and tears. I do like how they look compared to the added comfort. (I've never worn skinny jeans because they were too uncomfortable) Having a very short waist with longer legs, I'm going for the new low rise, wide loose leg. I desperately need advice on tops with this look.....cropped? loose? slim? and jackets. love your channel! Reply
Not everyone who hits "50" all of a sudden has gross flabby arms that need covering. And not everyone under 50 has great arms that don't require covering. It seems you are categorizing women much younger than yourself. I think it really depends on the person. Not everyone "ages" the same.
Why do we have to say ‘fall’ - it’s autumn - why does everyone have to adopt everything American?????? It’s the same with ‘closet’ - since when have we said that in the UK - it’s wardrobe or cupboard. Sorry, I know you have a world wide audience, but it really grates on me.
The algorithm I’m afraid. I need to say and type fall to rank. I agree its annoying that the algorithm is so USA based. But fall is an export from Sussex uk. We then adopted autumn from the French. So really fall is English and autumn French 😀
I don't follow anyone anymore. I'm 64 and I not fond of trends or people's opinions of what anyone should wear. Someone's always selling something and I am a minimalist. I wish you much luck though. Sometimes random videos pop up and yours just did. Much luck.
Why do you have a fashion video just pop up, unless you are watching them. That’s how RUclips works. Keep doing you then, and don’t watch the “random” video’s if you are against them😂
It would but fall is an English word and autumn comes from French. Fall is an export from the Uk that we dropped in favour of French. And now RUclipsrs have to say fall due to the whatsiname algorithm which I explain in the video. Maybe you didn’t notice my explanation.

Its what I said in the video, no one will know camos out in my town. But its true isn't it. In the real world nuances like that are not noticed .
I thought that was so funny. If you ask my husband what’s in style ,what is out of style he’d say, I don’t know. Ask my wife.
Haha - that made me smile too 🥰
Working among high school students, the young ladies give me lots of inspiration that I can adjust to my age and appropriate professional wear
Working with young people is the best way to stay current! I don't tell my students, but I do watch what they wear and get inspiration.

I have a fluffy handbag I got last year at Target. It’s a trend and cute and only $25. So if it smells or gets dirty, I have no problem tossing it!

That is very wise and a good point for certain countries
Love circle skirts with fitted wool jackets
Yes that would look good. I think I don't wear them enough in the autumn and should , especially as I can add long boots now.

Your correct Anna about big shoulders following to much trend when at 50 plus
You are my absolute new favorite!
I didn't do power dressing in the 80's, I'm sure not doing it now >.< That pink top really suits you. Lol I just retired my old parachute pants from the 90s. They can stay retired.
You have great taste!!!
I am retired now, but studied fashion and trained as a textile designer; always tried to keep up to date, even at 70. Leather wipes feed and nourish as my hand bag ruined packed wrongin the attic humidity made it peel dry out

Great idea!! I have some too so will put together a short.
Thankyou really enjoyed yourvideo today
Glad you enjoyed it
I hear you on the camo pants!
Also in the US we refer to a “ vest” as a tank.
Actually we do too, a tank top. i hear so many different ways of saying these items from different shops and articles :)
Well, if you're wearing camo pants no one will see you anyway. 🤣
I wear cord with silver shapes
In Texas it is still 100 degrees!
Unfortunately two necklaces on the neck not keen only because it's like following the trend and not been unique with jewellery just a thought but it is a personal thing I like vintage bracelets silver locket lovely
The willow comes as a double , that's its style.
Love old bracelets has history vintage not keen at all on Pandora but trendy for the young
My daughters are buying Pandora rings now for stacking. The bracelets has their day
Im thinking sheer long sleeve over same colour waistcoat.
You're adorable!
Thank you so much

Fab slip skirt x
Camo is always in, in Texas😂
In my world too. Its just a neutral. Silly to say its out.
I will not buy pleather again. I had to throw away my jacket after only few years because of peeling.
As i said in another video i had to throw an expensive pleather designer bag. Peel so badly.
All fab

I admire women that wear sleeveless at any age because they aren’t vain . But I’m not one of them. 😂😂.
It’s shocking to some, but our natural bodies do age, and if it hurts your eyes simply don’t look🤔
