This is a great anime. But I think a certain maturity is needed to appreciate it for the art it is.
Your review is spot on. I was signed into the army at 17 by my parents. This anime made me cry and I consider myself not to soft especially with the song by the Delgado's.
The reason I even brought up the army is because I went through a very intensive training because of my MOS. (Military job)
It hit me so hard because I know you're brain has to be broken then built back up in order to kill and even then some people freeze when backed into a corner.
I was thinking about little girls who had a horrible life just to be trained as a military weapons. This is human depravity at its best.
Thing is I Know something like this can happen. It might be going on now!
This anime just hit so many heart strings for me. I am the oldest brother of 2 sisters and I was constantly reminded by my father to protect them no matter what.
It was one of the best but hardest to watch animes for me.
Thanks for a great review. You said so many things that I don't think I could intellectualize as you did. Thanks

Minor spoier (rather unimportant to the plot) or rather a hint about the relation between Jean and Rico.
Jean keeps a photo of Rico years after she died.

I agree with you. In season 2 they go in back story of the handlers and the last ep or two they show more of Jose and Jean's back story. This anime needs a season 3.

I recently got into anime because of my need to branch out as a writer, and I must say that I'm glad that this was one of my first experiences with the genre (initial D being my actual first). From what I experienced watching this show I have to say that it is more for the "intellectuals" rather than the much more normal people that watch simply for the concept of guns and cyborg girls. The conflict of the show isn't immediately apparent unless you really pay attention; the only big indication that the show is more about the girl's internal conflict being the slow pacing, and the emphasis put on how they react to the external conflict they are thrust into. It took me a while to realize that as the conflict in most shows is very clear. Overall, I agree with you completely; although sometimes it got a bit "too slow", it made up for it when the shit hit the fan. The ending to season 1 was also really good.

A superb comment, i hate most Anime because it either is too silly or far fetched fantasy action.

A good mission is one where the enemy never gets a chance to shoot back. If they get a chance to respond, then something went fubar.

And shit hits the fan in the manga vol. 14 and 15.
Both anime seasons didn't even finish character development and is somewhat dragging. But they did show more about Elsa de Sica in the anime. And the German guy is Hirscher, not Hilshire. Even that is his cover name.

+volarecantare I think Hilshire's real name was Victor Hartman but when leaving Germany to Italy thats when he changed his name, also i wish they had another season so they can see petra and other second gen cyborgs but nope....never seen ever again

Dude, don't spoil it to others. You blew off Victor's background. I felt so sorry for Victor. It's like someone in town . Well, since I am a German citizen. His role was well thought out too. And the manga couldn't continue by your expectations, because
the welfare agency lost it's role in combat, and Giacomo was dealt with.
All in all, it was like a good Italian vendetta story. And I spent a week in Italy before finishing the manga.

well to be honest, it's not really a spoiler the manga has been out for quite some time now.

You never spoil anything to anybody anytime.
So many volumes were sold out for so long to day. And I had no choice but to read vol 4, 8, 9 and 11 online, because these volumes are just not available in the market. And probably there's even legal difficulties between the publisher and the German Inspection Authority for Media Harmful for Youth. They probably order conferences about those volumes again and again. *Especially* vol 11, where a war hero from WWII is admired. Possibly blacklisted or even banned already.
I'll probably never get the manga series complete on my shelf.

Definitely like the bellhop in gunslinger girl he's one of my favorite characters I wish he got a job at the agency in Rico and his relationship kind of blossom designs some cool ideas for body armor ballistic mask that both the handlers and the girls wear does highly effective and many times the armor uncle came up with the idea of idea of spooky armor combination of plastic and are 400 departed straight steel very light and very hits from say I worked out all the bugs in my armor would it mostly against well brother regular against full metal jacket bullets but still core penetrators I don't it would be as effective against well a real well that's why I would try to add some ceramics but that would make it looks a little too more bulky and always kind of bulky as it is anyway does try to try to fit it down not going to be

Meh Ive given up on comparing the anime to the manga. 99% of the time the anime is pretty much a marketing job for the source material thats still being written and wont have complete story. I have to be in the mood to readthe manga if Im gonna see the anime. I think this is berserk's fault. Technically, did you know the series ended in a flash back? It realoy turned me cynical against manga turn anime. I guess all this is to say I had fun watching tragic henrietta and big sis Triela talk and fight. And because the manga was complete when I saw the anime, I could jump rght into chapter 25.
