========= Soldier Of 3 Armies LYRICS ==========
Started out as a reserve,
Soon promoted well deserved
And the legend has begun
With a bounty on his head,
The Red Army wants him dead
Soviet enemy number one
Cross of Mannerheim!
Addicted to the war game
Never ending flame
Victory reclaimed
Oh, we remember,
We remember, we remember!
Shout! Lauri Törni’s name,
A soldier of 3 armies knows the game
Deeds that echo from the past
Rise! from beyond your grave,
Son of Finland and a green beret
May you rest in peace at last
Lauri Allan Törni
Crossed the water a new start,
War still beating in his heart
A new legend has been born
Started out as a reserve
Soon promoted well deserved
Changed his name to Larry Thorne
From the Finnish lakes
Into Germany and USA
All the wars he came across
Cross of Mannerheim, an Iron Cross,
A Bronze Star, Purple Heart
One Distinguished Flying Cross
========= Historic Fact ==========

He is also only former SS officer who is burried to Arlington
And the only former SS to be buried In Arlington.
Apparently there was multiple branches off the SS.
He was just the fighting force. Not killing innocent civilian’s part.
@@equarg Not exactly, SS was not that much divided, technically anyone could receive all kinds of orders, but Törni didn't get his field assignment as he only was drilled in the Waffen-SS, never put to fight actually.
@@Strygalldwir666 That's the part a lot of people don't seem to understand. He only received training from the SS.
It's clear to me that Sabaton has huge respect for the solders who fought for their countries. It's not about the politics, its about the bravery. Thanks Sabaton. These stories NEED to be told.
Ikr
Hear Hear! All these (predominantly Russian) haters of Torni need to realize: the man fought to protect his homeland and to destroy those that killed his people.
This dude was a Nazi SS officer, he's no one that should be respected
@@lurker1245 First, he was in the Waffen SS, the military branch, which basically served as German special forces. Second, the only reason he joined the Waffen SS was to receive training and continue fighting the people who invaded his country and killed his people. There isn't a shred of evidence whatsoever that Torni subscribed to Nazi ideology. If the Communists hadn't kept invading his country, he never would have felt the need to join the Axis. You just need to get off your self-righteous high horse and recognize that history is a lot more complex than your limited cartoon-based understanding of the world.
Also, I have to love how people tend to forget that the Communists were every bit as bad as the Nazis, but no one seems to complain about the USSR's involvement in the war, or any of their actions. Why is that?
@@lurker1245 That's an association fallacy. Not everyone in the SS was guilty of war crimes. In fact, it was proven so in court. You might as well call all Muslims terrorists.

Lauri Allan Törni, one of the two great legends of Finland. Alongside Simo Huha, they became the great legends of the Republic of Finland. Man was became an SS officer then become part of the green Berret just to fight against the communist countries of Russia & Vietnam. This song depicts that perfectly. Man won the distinguished flying cross, cross of manerheim, the iron cross, bronze star, & a Purple Heart. Truly the man who knows the war game.
i can say that these finnish "legends" are a foreign phenomenon, mostly existing only on internet culture.
Finnish legends are not really praised as such here. Simo Häyhä for example did not want to be remembered as a hero but rather just a soldier doing his duty. Veterans are deeply respected but not glorified. Very much to the wishes of the actual veterans themselves.
Simo Häyhä*
@@user-ce6iy2nw5o You can say that, but then you're wrong. Both Törni and Häyhä and many other Finnish heroes are still remembered with respect for their service by the general public, only major exception being commies and "greens" (watermelons, green on the outside, red on the inside) who still unironically repeat soviet propaganda about the wars.
@@IamOutOfNames i have not heard of either elsewhere than the internet and a news publication and some book. They are not apart of the general culture, writing of history or public consciousness. And certainly not "heroes". Individual heroes are foreign invention to finnish culture.
In a foreign perspective they are inflated in terms of the picture of finnish history because youtube videos are an echobox and the youtubers do no research of their own and just copy eachothers videos. For example there are no or little foreign videos of the finnish civil war wich is a major event in finnish history because nobody has put that in the echo box. In comparson there are probably a few dozen to a hundred of videos about the winter war.
And yes nowadays many finns might know who these "heroes" are but that is most likely because of youtube videos or sabaton songs.
I am convinced Sabaton is looking through my browsing history and making lyric videos of all their songs I've been listening to for the past 6 months.

The man who served in the winter war, the continuation war, eastern front, Iran, and the Vietnam War. Larry Thorne, was a warrior at heart. A Finnish soldier, a Waffen SS soldier, and a Green Beret. His calling was war. And he definitely showed his worth against his enemies and his allies. Godspeed to Larry Thorne.
His calling wasn’t war, it was exterminating commies. They took his hometown and killed his friends. He lived and breathed to purge them, but unfortunately he didn’t live long enough to see the soviet union crumble

Excellent. Love the military history, so many stories forgotten. My grandad served in the british army, Major Norman Perkis Robinson, he was a math boffin, he could work out the distance and trajectory of the canon balls from ignition, the sound it made when travelling through the air, they eventually took him out of the field to train the other dudes to adjust their canons trajectory and gun powder to hit the target. During a disciplinary during the war in the field, the canons started bombing, everyone dove for cover but he sat there stoic and carved in stone, told them they were idiots and to get up because he had already calculated that the canon ball would not hit them, they were far too short. He served in France and India in both WW1 and WW2, he enlisted at 16 at the time. He also told about the christmas day truce, where it was a german that came out of the trenches with his christmas rack pack and sat in the middle of the lines eating his christmas meal and singing christmas songs, eventually more from both sides joined, he used to cry telling the story.
That's an amazing life story Vicki. We appreciate you sharing it with us 🙂

Most American song possible.
You guys know what? This song could also apply to Yang Kyoungjong. He, too, also served in 3 armies, just like Lauri Allan Torni, the subject of this song. His story is on Wikipedia but, long story short (for those of you too lazy to look him up!), he was 18 yrs. old in Manchuria when he was drafted into the Imperial Japanese Kwantung Army & fought in Nomonhan Incident or Khalkhin Gol & was captured by the Soviet Red Army to be later sent to a Gulag labor camp. With Soviet manpower shortages due to fighting Nazi Germany, he was pressed into service with the same Soviet Red Army only to be captured by the Nazis in the eastern Ukraine during the 3rd Battle of Kharkov in 1943 &, from there, he was again pressed into service with Nazi Germany's "Eastern Battalions" which compromised of former Soviet military prisoners & was sent to occupied France where he fought on the Cotentin peninsula in Normandy near Utah Beach & was later captured by US paratroopers in June 1944. Following release from a Prisoner Of War camp after World War 2 in 1947, he became a US citizen & died in Illinois in 1992. But TAKE NOTE: He was DRAFTED into all this AGAINST HIS WILL, not like Lauri Allan Torni!
Didn't he do national gaurd here in America too? Or am I hallucinating

I got into Sabaton back in high school---around the time "The Last Stand" came out---and I remember listening to this song on my headphones, while I walked around my neighborhood and brainstormed story ideas.
High school rocked.
i do sideline writing as a hobby and i think this song and "Shiroyama" would work great with one of the chapters in my story. i have a character named Miyu Tatsu (literally translates to dragon under the moonlight/dragon who dances with the moon etc.) who was intitially an antagonist, albeit an honorable one. she has a lot of blood on her hands because of what she did in the past and i had planned to make a chapter where she goes out in a blaze of redemptious glory to protect the main characters Pyra and Mercy (who she has a history with) as a show of both her sincere regret of what she did in the past and as a means of redeeming herself. she follows the code of the samurai and has the ability to nullify the abilities of anyone her blade cuts, whether it be as severe as vivisection or as pitiful as a mere paper cut.
I distinctly remember listening to "To Hell and Back" for the first time during Junior year, and singing it to myself under my breath in the locker room because I couldn't get it out of my head.
i feel like this song deserves a lot more attention than it has rn the intro riff and guitar solo are both amazing the historical background is also great
