Yeah man he’s doesn’t screw around with other bs super practical and technical without losing focus, he really needs to expand on other reviews can’t wait for his other reviews
Not an overlander, but the overlap of portable power and off-grid fridge brought me here. I have to say, you are the mac daddy of presentation. Your thorough grasp of “show- don’t tell” is on point!
Great job on the videos. You present these things in a smart, direct and fun way. I rarely feel like I need a freezer and have stuck with my 50qt ARB, but the ice maker is pretty sweet. Being able to have a cold drink without storing the drink in the fridge at all would be pretty nice.
Thankfully in UK the eggs 🥚 do not need to be kept in a fridge, even during summer🌞 In US they chemically treat and wash the eggs so that the natural protective 🐚 shell full protection is lost and causes the eggs to become poros.
I am glad I found your channel. I appreciate the way you present your videos. They are nicely sequenced, logical, and easily understood. I am almost convinced that I could duplicate some of your vehicle conversions. Keep them coming. Thanks.
We have a national Luna weekender twin. It is 48l with a single compressor. It’s not dual zone but if you set the temp as a fridge the small compartment works as a freezer. It works perfectly. We’ve had it for 12 years and used it for 42 countries of overlanding. This built in battery is pretty cool though.
This is exactly what I need to replace my vevor 48 quart fridge. I can run this ecoflow fridge from my Delta2 that is always charging from my 200W solar system on my 4runner roof. Great video man! We appreciate the knowledge drop.
Yow mann..been watching your videos. I have learned a lot from you.I've been using my Glacier, and I'm really loving it. Makes my beverage cold really fast. Like an actual fridge.
The vacuum insulation was the coolest part. I was nerding out VIPs when I learned about them a while ago, They're still a delicate and niche technology, but I can see them being super useful in overlander / van dwelling designs. Imagine something like a monolithic fiberglass box like earth cruiser uses, but with VIPs through out. The efficiencies approaching passive house levels could vastly simplify and or expand where your adventures can happen. Personally, as someone who lives where it gets super hot, I appreciate air conditioning. Which is harder to add, let alone maintain in a rig.
Great review. I purchased a CFX55 with icemaker last year. (Dometic had a great sale, i didn't really care about the icemaker. Just wanted a little more room than my CF40) I have not used it to make ice yet, but the ecoflow looks to be a much better ice setup for those looking for ice. Thank you for sharing.
After 5 years our Dometic thermistor needs replacing which seems quite common in Dometics. It is taking us months to get the part - whilst our ice-buying cooler season goes by. It is also hard to locate the part which is unfortunate for Dometic’s brand reputation - I thought they were offering a more solid product/service. Their email reply with parts list did not even include the part we actually need.
CFX40 perfect size for our family of 4. Easy enough to use as freezer and switch out frozen bottles into a regular cooler for other items - on longer/bigger trips with more people.
I got the ARB zero , 69 liters , I think I that's 47 or 57 us ? Anyway , I threw it in the back , filled nearly all the cargo area lol But I love it , absolutely worth it , and with the roof rack I can do away with the space They're also the most efficient fridges out there
I went with ICECO APL 35 with battery pack and 80w solar panel. Cooler works great just waiting on shipping of battery and solar. Also bought a Wesonorous 12v for 180$ and for the money it works great as well.
I really like my Delta 2Max. Holds a lot of energy. Glacier is great too. Haven’t gone camping with it, but I have done all the stays at a public park within 30 minutes. Nice not having to leave to get food or cold beverage. And I really like it for going to my “local” farmer for dairy and beef runs. Also going to nearby grocery store, especially in the summer. Heck I can go to a grocery store an hour away and not worry about needing to rush on back down the highway. I almost feel like I’m at home in my minivan.
As most have stated...your videos are on point and presented in an entertaining way and also delivers the information that everyone is seeking. I am sure you are already on this...but you need to do a Wave 2 video. Looking forward to seeing this.
That was one of the best videos I have seen for reviewing a product. Thank you very much. I was thinking of an Iceco but now thinking about a Ecoflow! I am trying to understand if I need an external power supply if I have solar panels.
Anker Everfrost seems like a solid option too if you don't care about ice maker. The built in wheel and handle is nice comparing to paying extra for the ecoflow. However removable divider on the ecoflow to make it one big single zone is very nice. And like you said size is an issue with anker being 53L as the only dual zone option.
Certified nerd. I love it. I have an ARB I use mostly in my camper van. I've been thinking of a smaller unit for my GX. But now you have me thinking about the Glacier to replace and use in both.
The alternators in the Tacoma/4R/FJ can be turned up to provide more juice. The only mod is a change when tuning and an AGM battery so you don't cook the battery with the extra juice.
I bought my first 12V portable fridge off Amazon, it was only like $250. Its one of those Chinese non name brand, way cheaper than Dometic and other name brand fridges, but works just as good. Mine is a dual zone fridge. Apparently mine use to have an optional battery, but the battery itself was no longer available at time of purchase. I bought it for Burning Man and it worked great with a power station that I borrowed from a friend, so I still need to get a battery power station one day soon.
I had a Bodega 12v freeze/fridge that worked very well too, for a quarter of the price of the Glacier and not as heavy. I sold it and bought the Glacier because I own several EF products. The Glacier is nice, but it weights a ton.
You make the best videos I have seen for this type of content! I am very impressed with your knowledge and thoroughness in your testing! You just earned a new subscriber... Let's get Kai up to one million subs!!!
Well, I know what I’m getting if my Iceco single zone ever fails. Portable fridges are one of the best things ever, whether you’re traveling, car/truck camping, overlanding, or just want to buy groceries and not go home right away. This dual zone hits the sweet spot for size I’ve been wanting.
I would suggest using 12 volt car socket & plug a inverter 12 to 120v and use the ac adaptor which come with the fridge. Simple for a novice user. Hope it can handle amps. I use my investor to charge my jacket 290 for a fast charging at 60w instead of 40w on 12 volt.
I'm doing the van life thing and have been running my Iceco VL60 dual zone for two years non-stop and it still runs perfect. I find that it helps during the hot summers to put a double folded beach towel on top. Do you have the Iceco insulated cover for yours?
@Joe Blow yea I have the insulated cover however I also double side tapped some reflective insulation on the side and top. I've found when camping the top gets super toasty when the sun is on it
As always hitting it out of the park beyond the galaxy on how to make a review on all the practical uses and technical aspects clean smooth and focused on what all you need to know and fluff free shill free experience, setting the gold standard on RUclips, youtube needs an award for best structured best shot best informative TA takes the cake 🎂 I don’t think I have seen such well shot edited well focused lean and informative practical videos on RUclips very very few and far in btwn especially now a days with youtube full of bs reviews, sponsored shills, and click bait, this is the man to go to for anything reviews or technical analysis, can we get some led light bar reviews? 😜 please 🙏 😅
Does it make a noise when going over speend bumps potholes, etc. Mines sounds like the compressor moves about slightly, making a clunk noise. Is the compressor meant to be solid or is it made to move sighty to absorb hard terrain?
I have the glacier and delta2 max. For a week and I’m testing it right now. And I have 1 issue with it. Is there a way (without removing it) to prevent the glacier from using the internal battery as power-source when also hooked up to the delta? I have the glacier hooked up via the cigarette cable with the delta 2. The glacier battery is at 100%. And now it keeps drawing power from that battery instead of the delta. And each time the battery drops to 99%, the delta recharges that instantly back to 100. But that doesn’t look good for the batterylife to be constantly topped back up from 99 to 100%. I rather have it using power from the delta2 directly, and only switching to the battery as backup when the delta dies. Or at least have an option where you can regulate at which percentage the glacier-battery should get recharging? Then you can program to start the recharging from the delta when the glacier battery is at 50% or 20%. But I can’t see such an option in the app….
Hmm I hear you. Hope Ecoflow make a firmware update to improve this. They do new releases much more frequently than other companies. But cycling between 99 and 100 is far from a full battery cycle. Probably count as even less than 0.01 cycle
I currently still have my Dometic CFX40 and I've used that thing for 5 years now and it has NEVER frozen anything in the "dairy compartment", even when I set the temp below 30 for several days. Not sure why your eggs froze, but oh well. The Ecoflow fridge is nice though.
Hah, my reason for preferring no ice is to get more of the beverage I paid for, rather than frozen water. Good review as always. The built-in battery is appealing especially if the fridge also has a USB port or two. But I am hoping the Dometic fridge and PLB40 battery I have last a long time so it’s just academic for me.
Yeah the ice maker would be nice. Smoothies for the girlfriend, whiskey on rocks for me, and cubes for the doggo to snack on. I've been wanting to upgrade to a dual zone and having the direct solar charging clears up my power station for use elsewhere.
I’m with you on the ice maker, it’s not needed. Maybe they could make that removable. Considering the better insulation I expected the glacier to outperform the domestic. It’s a lost opportunity to crush the competition. Biggest drawback is the price. That’s exp for a fridge. Personally, I’d only run it in freezer mode. You can add a few beverages a couple hours before consumption and they will be icy cold. EcoFlow, like all other manufacturers did not add internal fans for air circulation. This would help cool down food and beverages.
Howdy! Love your results here. This thing is slick. Would you be interested in making a second one to sell? I’d really like to have one. I don’t have a sewing the machine or skills that I’m confident enough take this on. Have made many a hammock and tried my hand at an apex insulation Underquilt but I’d like to have the compressibility and weight savings of the down.
Any thoughts on how well this fridge might do in the back of a truck with a cover to protect from rain but still an extremely dusty environment. I am thinking the compressor, electronics, switches ect.
thanks for the video. can you let me know how efficient this is. Maybe I missed it. I currently have a SetPower 37 as I went with a budget model for my first fridge. And on my summer overlanding trip, I couldn't help but notice how inefficient it was. It would cycle on a few times an hour and pull btwn 50-60W each time. Charging from my car had a hard time keeping the battery from draining so I'm wondering how efficient the EcoFlow Glacier is (both from an insulation and a power draw perspective). thanks,
can you please to measure a baseplate (LXW)? does it get narrow at bottom? Would you think it can clear tray a 696 mm x 395mm and hight 88 mm? Thank you
I really like it but when comparing to the Iceco VL60 dual zone. It seems that the Iceco is a better deal. The Iceco has 2 lids so the frozen side can stay closed most of the time, it’s just barely bigger. Mostly the width actually. It’s about 4” wider but the rest of the dimensions are about 1” bigger all around. Which isn’t much. Also the price. The eco flow is $1000 based on link. The iceco is $850 and usually there’s a 30% off sale on Black Friday which really makes it a better deal.
Great presentation. I will definitely look into this setup because I can hook it up in the back seat so I can reach from my driver seat. What an awesome presentation of thermodynamics in ways most can relate in a refrigeration system... from making Energy = Power x time look so cool to benchmarking with thermogram no less for validating the relative superiority in the R15 for your EcoFlow vs R5 for Dometic... with nuances involving wall thickness and cooling rate (time). Can you deactivate the ice-maker with a switch so that compartment can be used to store/cool liquid packs? I love the ice-maker feature though.
The ice maker is always deactivated and not cooled. It is not constantly making more ice like some home units. This is more of an instant ice maker. Push a button to make 1 batch type of deal.
Dude, your videos set the standard! A standard that very few others meet. Thanks for putting these out.

This is an entirely new standard of reviewing! Thank you so much for the effort you put into these videos man.
Another option instead of a $1,000 true dual-zone fridge/freezer: two smaller single-zone units for ~ $200-$250 each (e.g.: Alpicool)
This is exactly what I need to replace my vevor 48 quart fridge. I can run this ecoflow fridge from my Delta2 that is always charging from my 200W solar system on my 4runner roof. Great video man! We appreciate the knowledge drop.

I love your video. Great review just an FYI farm fresh eggs can stay out and not be refrigerated. Europeans do it all the time.
Yep, don’t get washed off eggs from grocery store. Keep the protective film.
I just discovered this fridge tonight while researching the EcoFlow Delta 2 Max. Outstanding review of it.

Yeah I had my CFX40 since summer 2018. I only had 2 to 3 times stuff frozen up there. Usually it was long trips + cool environment

Such a nerdy, but COOL experiment 🔬 !!!
this video came at the perfect time, as being in the market for a dual zone
You can flip the zones. Make the big zone the freezer instead.

For the price I would get the Dometic. It has a proven SECOP compressor which is more efficient.
I don't care for the icemaker either, so I agree with you. I hope you compare this to the new Bluetti fridge/freezer..
